Alix Polizzi - My Hotel Nightmare

Anyone watch this? It was really good - love Alix generally anyway and seeing her arguing with her mum and flapping slightly when she’s normally so unflappable was endearing. Made her very human. The relationship with her mum - who was so demanding and such high standards and barely giving an inch in each discussion really made me laugh. For someone who has a similar mum-daughter relationship with my own mum, I fully recognised a lot of Alix’s woes Grin

I've also watched all Alex's Hotel Inspector shows so it was interesting to see her on the other side. Her mum does have very exacting standards but I guess that's what it takes to be a top hotelier.

I feel for them unearthing problem after problem - that's how I felt, on a much smaller scale, when I started to do up my house.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/08/2021 18:22

Poor woman looked absolutely wrecked ,didn't she? She is usually so unflappable. What a god awful time to open a hotel.

RaraRachael · 22/08/2021 10:51

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. I felt for them after the samples of china which they'd gone all the way to Italy to choose, turned out to be awful.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/08/2021 14:27

Wasn't it awful when it arrived?!

OvernightBloats · 22/08/2021 19:27

Did Alex and Olga go to Italy DURING LOCKDOWN just to choose these plates/chairs? Why didn't they choose to buy from a British company probably for a better price? Quality items are made here so why the need to travel during a pandemic for this? Then they were moaning about their budgeting restraints and huge loans!!!
Sorry, but I had no sympathy for them when the plates were awful.

JemimaTab · 22/08/2021 20:03

I’m enjoying the show (although it is a bit stressful!), but I do find her mother fairly terrifying.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/08/2021 20:31

I doubt very much she went to Italy during lockdown, why would you presume that?

I also doubt that if she could've got cheaper in the UK she'd have gone to Italy. It was cheaper to get the floor tiles from Italy.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/08/2021 20:32

Her mother is truly terrifyingGrin

JemimaTab · 22/08/2021 20:48

I do find myself clenching slightly whenever her mother hoves into view. 😬

321zyx · 22/08/2021 20:54

It's open

OvernightBloats · 23/08/2021 09:19

The timeline of the programme shows that they definitely traveled during the midst of the pandemic. They are shown wearing masks whilst in Milan. Travel costs and import costs also have to be added into the buying the items.
It was disappointing to me that they commissioned plates with an English theme (English leaf transfer print etc.) and did not consider using a British company. Instead they used their 'long standing Italian suppliers' because it was probably the easy option (even during lockdown).

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/08/2021 12:54

People were allowed to travel for work in the pandemic. Completely up to them if they want to, hopefully they caught up with family while they were there too.

BikeRunSki · 23/08/2021 13:00

I liked the scene where Alex was trying to wfh whilst yelling at her kids to be quiet. So familiar!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/08/2021 13:03

I did too,so funny Grin

kazzaD66 · 23/08/2021 14:39

We saw them when we stayed at Verdura, Rocco Forte's Sicilian hotel. They were staying there with their respective families and Alex's sister and her family aswell. OP seemed quite formidable and used to getting her own way (but in a polite way!). Alex used to clear used towels or glasses or bits of rubbish left around the pool area as she walked by - ever the hotelier Grin Her and her family were friendly and gave us some beers when we were all playing tennis one evening.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/08/2021 14:41

How lovelySmile

spongedog · 25/08/2021 21:49

I'm waiting to watch this series, but I always thought that Endsleigh had been Alex "baby" and she had been involved in that from the start. So I wasnt quite sure why this was so different. I have stayed at Tresanton, but could never afford Endsleigh. Hoping this one will be more reasonable (as it is closer to me!!)

JovialNickname · 25/08/2021 21:53

I really liked this too and am excited to watch the final part tomorrow!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/08/2021 21:57

Endsleigh IS Alex's isn't it?

kazzaD66 · 25/08/2021 22:36

I don't know, so I could be talking rubbish Hmm but I thought Endsleigh and Tresanton were both OP's but that Alex managed the former at the beginning.

myrtleWilson · 25/08/2021 22:50

I've not seen the programme but is it about the Star? If so, Marina O'Loughlin reviewed the restaurant and was scathing...

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/08/2021 15:37

What did she say?

£250 for a fancy B and B is way too much imo. It's nice but I want more for that sort of money. I was looking up Alex's place.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 26/08/2021 16:50

I thought the Endersleigh was Alex’s hotel. But no she project managed it and ran it for OP.

We went to Hotel Tresanten once to see if we could book for their iconic afternoon teas, but we saw OP emerge out of a side room and asked us what we were doing and we felt totally out of place. So we left.

Rather embarrassing really. We thought there would be an obvious reception area but didn’t get that far.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/08/2021 18:36

Oh wow, not a great greeting then,I can imagine her doing that !

BikeRunSki · 26/08/2021 18:38

@myrtleWilson, yes it is
