Can't think of a damn thing but you get the gist Grin

I bet Djok is pissed off - even if he gets his calendar slam it will be overshadowed by all the history Emma’s made.

magimedi · 11/09/2021 23:46

Chessie - LTB tomorrow.

I am so tired - I did enjoy it, but far too much baseline tennis & not enough subtlety and net play.

I was AMAZED by their speeches - no way I could have been so articulate in my teens.

Just hope Emma can cope with all that will be coming to her.

Raahh · 11/09/2021 23:46

Tim was very emotional about the whole thing- and Virginia/ValerieGrin looked chuffed to bits.

Fizzywinegum · 11/09/2021 23:49

What about Greg - didn’t he get to the final?

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2021 23:49

At least there was no screeching magi Grin

Raahh · 11/09/2021 23:50

magi no, I would have been tongue tied- especially if I was disappointed and surrounded by thousands of people and I just wanted to go home.

Emma's life is going to change a bit now- but hopefully she will have a solid team around her. She probably needs a break now.

Raahh · 11/09/2021 23:51

Fizzy he did, played Pat Rafter. I listened to it on the radio.

I loved Pat Rafter.

Grin
ChessieFL · 11/09/2021 23:59

The Queen has sent her congratulations. Do you think she actually stayed up to watch it?!

Raahh · 12/09/2021 00:05

Chessie I love the idea that the Queen stayed up to watch. Grin

RubySlippers123 · 12/09/2021 00:06

@JaneJeffer

I love Emma's crush on Tim Grin
So cute! 😊
Yamayo · 12/09/2021 00:12

I loved Rafter too. His reaction to losing to Ivanisevic in the Wimbledon final was so sweet.

Raahh · 12/09/2021 00:16

Pat was a class act. I wish he had beaten Sampras. He deserved to win Wimbledon once.

TottiePlantagenet · 12/09/2021 00:16

Both women played brilliantly, Emma was just a bit better. So composed during their speeches, how do they do that? Mature beyond their years already.

Even more amazing (for me) was that both women are of East Asian descent, that really pleases me for the representation - still not huge numbers of non-white players in the major tournaments.

TottiePlantagenet · 12/09/2021 00:19

Plan on completely ignoring the men's match tomorrow. Unless Medvedev winsGrin

And thanks Raahh for reminding us that Reid & Hewett won the wheelchair pairs, fantastic achievement.

TurquoiseDress · 12/09/2021 09:25

I watched the match last night, all I can say is that Emma is totally incredible, amazing how she has made her way through qualifying and the main draw without losing a set!

It was very high quality tennis from both of them but Emma was the better player so she came out on top.

It was the first time I'd seen Fernandez play, she was impressive.

Have to say I was unimpressed with her complaining & whinging about the medical time out.

Emma had no choice- she didn't ask for one, the umpire did.

The rules are you can't continue playing if one player is bleeding- the game has to stop.

I understand Fernandez's frustration but she just showed herself as totally petulant...I think she put herself off with all her complaining!

While Emma was sat there having her knee bandaged, she did well to try and zone out Fernandez who was just a few feet away and very vocal

Emma's time out was not gamesmanship- unlike the extended toilet breaks and similar that you often see.

Congratulations Emma!Smile

kazzaD66 · 12/09/2021 09:56

turquoise agree with what you say about the injury time out and Fernandez's reaction to it. It wasn't Emma fault. Although frankly, I'm not sure it takes that long to wipe some blood away and put a plaster on. It looked like the medic was preparing for brain surgery Hmm

Only missed the first few games by the time we got home and was so transfixed, I didn't even think about MN, so just catching up now.

Some of the hitting was phenomenal, great lengths and angles. Nice not to have the deafening screeching or grunting from either player and for the match to be played at a good pace. No faffing around between points.

I still can't believe what Emma has done and the manner in which she has achieved it. Incredible!

Unfortunately for Tim, he'll need to follow Emma around the tour now as her good luck charm and unofficial mascot, when he's probably itching to get back to building Wimbledon's car park Grin

It's certainly been a good tournament for the Brits, with Joe being double champion, Hewett and Reid winning the doubles and I think Hewett is in the singles final today aswell. Congratulations to all of them Smile

ChessieFL · 12/09/2021 10:21

The problem for Emma now is that everyone will have such high expectations for her, and people will be very disappointed if she doesn’t replicate this success in the next couple of tournaments. Hopefully people realise that what she has achieved here is really extraordinary and she’s given space to develop properly without too much expectation and media pressure.

Fizzywinegum · 12/09/2021 20:52

Doesn’t look as if anyone is very excited for the men’s final Grin

I’m going to start watching but don’t think I’ll manage to watch it all - I think Djok is going to win - he’s just in that sort of mood but still hoping that Daniil can pull off a shock win (or Djok does actually self combust!)

I think it’s hotter today in NY which doesn’t really suit either player

Raahh · 12/09/2021 21:04

I'm looking forward to the final FIzzy but I am not hopeful of staying awake- unless Djok trounces Daniil in an hour and a half (or the other way around, of courseGrin).

I can do without all the patriotism at the start of the US open finals. It makes me grateful for Wimbledon- and RG and the Aussie open, really- they don't go in for any of that nonsense either.

JaneJeffer · 12/09/2021 21:06

Could they not find a bigger flag?

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/09/2021 21:06

Oh, Petch is courtside today.

I bet Daniil won't be flirting with him.

JaneJeffer · 12/09/2021 21:07

I guess that means Jim is on commentary again!

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 12/09/2021 21:07

It is a bit OTT isn’t it Raahh?

A Daniil win in very quick straight sets would be just the ticket but can’t see it happening really!

Raahh · 12/09/2021 21:08

Jane it's bonkers, the flag.

I've got my Bingo card ready.
I'm waiting for someone to say 'rectangle of possibilities'.

I don't like the pre-match interviews either- that can't help the focus.

JaneJeffer · 12/09/2021 21:08

Go Daniil!
