Not too fussy on genre (though not too keen on comedy) but it has to have:

  • excellent script and storyline
  • believable characters that I can become emotionally invested in,
  • including if possible a heroic but slightly flawed male character that can become my new obsession Grin

Series I've loved:

  • Breaking Bad
  • The Handmaid's Tale
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Line of Duty
  • Fleabag
  • Firefly
  • True Detective
  • Criminal

Latest obsessions were The Vampire Diaries Blush and Hannibal. Loved them!

Series I couldn't finish:

  • Outlander: I so wanted to love this and I did enjoy the first two series but I stopped watching after a few episodes of series 4, it just seemed to get a bit dull.
  • This is Us - too schmaltzy and tbh I just couldn't get past them being able to just walk out of the hospital with a random baby. Vampires I can suspend reality for.. This not so much.
  • Homeland - watched the first episode but found it a bit dull - does it get better?
  • Bridgerton - not sure how, but lasted until episode 6.
  • Greys Anatomy - watched a few episodes but just didn't connect with it.

Have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney. Any help would be most appreciated!

Suits
Mad men
Homeland is amazing stick with it

BertieBotts · 07/08/2021 22:27

Fringe! It's my all time favourite series ever and has everything you want.

Supernatural is not bad either. It gets a bit weird in the later series but there is double flawed male eye candy to make up for it and it's compelling in the earlier seasons I think.

Im on

No Offence..

bloody brilliant 🎉

Yiayoula · 07/08/2021 22:31

Money Heist ( Netflix ).

Fulfils all your requirements , highly recommended !

Yiayoula · 07/08/2021 22:32

And I second No Offence also ….

Homeland S1 is great once it gets going (the other series' are variable).

I recently enjoyed The Americans.

TheGriffle · 07/08/2021 22:34

I’ve enjoyed Wandavision on Disneyplus (even though I’ve not really watched any marvel films) and Loki also looks good but I haven’t watched it yet.

Schitts Creek on Netflix is lovely wholesome viewing and I really enjoyed episode 1 of Fargo on Netflix too.

sunnyday1976 · 07/08/2021 22:38

Following a couple of your favourites involving vampires, True Blood. Not sure where its available in the UK at the moment but it's great. Eric....

Occupied - sexy Norwegian PM protection officer in Russian occupied modern Norway.

Impatientwino · 07/08/2021 22:41

Definitely stick with Homeland. We're currently on season 5 - it's awesome
Bosch
Orange is the new black - excellent writing and I loved this
I'm really enjoying iZombie - again another one you need to stick with and it's a bit weird but once you get over the Zombie/brains thing its really fun!
Hinterland - lovely mystery series
Harrow - totally brilliant
Schitts Creek - wonderful - gets great a few episodes in
Superstore - easy, simple fun watching
Parks and Recreation - absolutely bloody wonderful! It’s one I wish I could unwatch and then watch again!
Ozark - dark but very good
Orthodox - very interesting
Emily in Paris - brilliant easy watch
Good girls - good writing and the guy is mysteriously sexy

MsTSwift · 07/08/2021 22:41

Orange is the new black - obsessed with it

Dead to me very good

Impatientwino · 07/08/2021 22:42

I'll try and remember more! I find these threads so helpful I like to contribute!

truetotal · 07/08/2021 22:43

Just finished The Wilds on Prime and it was so good. Lots of interesting characters and twists.

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 07/08/2021 22:44

If you like Flebag you'll prob like This Way Up.

EspressoDoubleShot · 07/08/2021 22:45

Yes to parks and recreation
Schitt creek , orange is..I found turgidly bad. Poorly scripted and dull

Dontlickthetrolley · 07/08/2021 22:47

I never see The Blacklist ever get mentioned on these threads, but it's amazing, I watched 8 seasons, approx 160 episodes in 8 weeks, was obsessed!

It's about Americas most wanted and an FBI task force and similar to Line of Duty references previous series, so when watching back to back far easier to remember what's happened previously!!

And plenty of males to get obsessed by and some female too!!

Silversun83 · 07/08/2021 22:51

Thanks for the recommendations! Some of these look very promising. Hadn't heard of Fringe and sci-fi is a fave so might start with that.

Impatientwino · 07/08/2021 23:07

@Dontlickthetrolley thanks for this I'm watching this next!

Dontlickthetrolley · 07/08/2021 23:25

@Impatientwino let me know how you get on with it, I only know 2 people that have watched it, the one who recommended it to me (I'd binged watched New Amsterdam and she told me Max is in it) and someone I used to work with despite me recommending it every time I get the opportunity!

housecoat1968 · 07/08/2021 23:27

Shtisel - it's a slow burner but brilliant characters that build as the series goes on.

Madreb · 07/08/2021 23:35

Cruel Summer in amazon is good!

Selok · 07/08/2021 23:44

We loved Sense8 but you need to give first two episodes chance to build up the characters and story- it is brilliant! I still miss the characters

QueenBee52 · 07/08/2021 23:53

@Madreb
