@Hopeisallineed

Already Faye’s social media filling up with insults and death threats. ☹️ Terrible that the producers have given this airtime and not dealt with it carefully.
People are such morons.
summercupcake · 07/08/2021 22:59

I think we should be angrier at the producers than with Faye.

^this

There are plenty of insecure, vulnerable, unhinged people with anger problems out there.....it's the producers who choose to cast them, manipulate them, edit them and give them air time for entertainment. Disgraceful.

How many suicides is this show going to rack up before they stop....and yet here we the viewers are, still watching and debating.

Mistressofnone · 07/08/2021 23:18

Really we could have a whole thread on what is wrong with Love Island. Reality TV. How many situations in reality involve:

 1. women lining up tiny bikinis & heels and being selected by men to be in a couple.
 2. sharing a bed with a complete stranger.
 3. sharing a room with people who might be having sex next to you.
 4. being commanded to lap dance on demand dressed in kinky outfits or have someone stick their tongue down your throat without any real say in the matter.

The list could go on.
@QueenBee52 no, I mean tonight on Unseen Bits. He was messing about doing a silly dance and she got all stroppy with him for it.
Ooohhh ... 😳

sorry 🤣

QueenBee52 · 07/08/2021 23:20

shuffles off to naughty step 🙁🌸

PumpkinKlNG · 07/08/2021 23:21

Tbf they apply for the show no one is forced to go on 🤷‍♀️

Aquarius1234 · 07/08/2021 23:31

I've never seen a woman wearing high heels in a bikini.
Didnt know young girls liked that look on holiday. Seems wrong.
Flip flops or bare feet can be just as hot if the producers dont think so....

Mistressofnone · 07/08/2021 23:33

Agreed! Just so much wrong with it when you think about, it's hard to draw the line of when producers have gone too far. E.g. when Maura practically forced herself on Tommy a few series ago.

On another note, I also read there are only two bathrooms. How do the women not get bloated?

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 07/08/2021 23:33

Richard “Dick” Cowles. Nothing about it is aspirational, except maybe being on holiday right now.

I do not aspire to be anything like any of them. Calm yourself down and apologise for Christ sake!

Unseen bits was good tonight. Teddy certainly isn’t “boring” but it’s clear they just aren’t a good fit. I noticed during the game she was sat with her arms around him from behind. They clearly were close and spent a lot of time together which is obviously why Teddy is so hurt.

I do wonder what tomorrow night will bring.

Anyone else love seeing the clip of Teddy laid with his arm around Abi?
I also loved Millie getting excited watching Teddy work out and Liam getting jealous 😂

I didn't mean that to be offensive and have asked for it to be removed. I trying to explain how outdated the show is.

Zotter · 08/08/2021 00:01

Would be great if these two coupled up, both sweethearts.

@Willwebebuyingnumber11, was a lovely clip, just posted photo of it

I agree. It seems to me that Love Island only pays lip service to the mental health side of things but in reality, not much has changed at all.

CarpyDiem · 08/08/2021 06:36

I think a lot of people watch for the drama

Do not confuse histrionics with drama.

The best drama at the moment is with Liberty, and whether she is seeing Jake with new eyes and if so what she will do next. The impact on her is potentially huge, and shouldn't be overlooked because she isn't acting like a complete shit

SueSaid · 08/08/2021 08:21

@LadyCatStark

PS is anyone watching the Ian Stirling “comedy” after Unseen Bits. What a load of shite!
He's not funny is he.

I mean his 'toniiiiiiiiight, on love iiiiiiiiiislaand' voiceovers are vaguely amusing but I sometimes find his pisstaking goes too far. Danny's tatts for example were ugly and far too excessive but Stirling never shut up about them. They need someone funny but maybe not quite as much of a twat too.

Muggee · 08/08/2021 08:22

I think the issue is that love island started off as a programme on a secondary channel targeted at a fairly small demographic, and with no idea of how popular it would become. Since the expansion of viewers and increase in popularity it hasn't changed the original format or premise, which isn't always as appealing to others. All reality TV formulated for young adults is pretty shallow, and geordie shore and the like are much more savage. Not saying things shouldn't change or that is should be aspirational or that all young people agree and enjoy it; but that it's being judged against mainstream and broad appeal standards.

I agree that the format is tired and outdated though, and think they should rebrand and switch it up. It's an ideal opportunity to move forward now people do want to see more diversity and less poking people to create plastic drama.

Arcadia · 08/08/2021 08:34

Rob Beckett on Celebs Go Dating is waaaaay funnier that Ian Stirling

OnPaper · 08/08/2021 08:46

I have been re-watching season 1 as I don't remember much of it apart from the basics and I would have loved to have read a mumsnet thread about it back in the day.

People have been complaining about some of the men's behaviour this season, the contestants' mental health, etc etc. Well, I had forgotten how savage season 1 was compared to the new one. The men were absolutely appalling and shocking and I am not gonna even go into the wellbeing of the people.

PlanetTeaTime · 08/08/2021 08:56

Just watched Fridays episode and feel so upset for Teddy!

:-(

Sounds like every girls holiday I had in my 20s!
ufucoffee · 08/08/2021 09:19

I think Ian Stirling is really funny on LI. I watched a bit of his new show but didn't like it. I thought I was perhaps too old for it and younger people might like it better

Monestera · 08/08/2021 09:36

I like Iain Stirling's irreverent commentary.

Since the expansion of viewers and increase in popularity it hasn't changed the original format or premise, which isn't always as appealing to others.

That sounds a bit contradictory to me. But I agree totally with your later point, it's time to either retire the programme or change it up. I'm afraid I think it's time to wrap it up.

This To make it worse this year the men have been more misogynistic than in any other year. Little respect for women, not giving a hoot about boundaries ( all this Lad’s holiday nonsense was annoying). Lying either by omission or directly. The ‘problem’ is we all watch it, so the producers ain’t changing the format anytime soon. They will just come out with the usual platitudes about mental health etc, whilst simultaneously manipulating the Islanders in order to get the ratings
Monestera · 08/08/2021 09:38

I think some of the earlier series were much worse. The man who coupled up with Sophie G. really made for uncomfortable viewing.
