Very late to the party due to a couple of weird Mondays in a row.

I'm more an only connect and university challenge followed by masterchef viewer but very much looking forward to watching, I'm on episode one on catch up at the moment

Showing my age as I know the celebs especially su pollard (loved hi-de-hi back in the day) except I don't know the comedian very well.

Bez is a secret good chef who's down playing his aptitude apparently (in typical bez form admittedly, he likes playing the clown but doesn't actually like to embarrass himself publicly)

@BoreOfWhabylon I remember when that happened and had always felt he had a vicious streak anyway he was always "edgy"

Question - if YOU were on masterchef what would the comments be? I suspect I'd be constantly admonished for under seasoning (I always think I've put loads of flavour in then taste it and it tastes of nothing and I end up furiously adding more and more flavour near the end of cooking!) but they'd probably like my roast veggies and potatoes as I can do them quite well.

@Pebbledashery yes as a veggie I'm annoyed they've used veal, ordinary meat is bad enough veal really shouldn't be used

I think munya went due to a combo of lack of skill and lack of imagination. If you haven't the skills make up for it by doing something a bit different and exciting, eg why not do a Zimbabwean dish? There are some wonderful Zimbabwean dishes

I've halloumi in the fridge I need to use tomorrow love it but I love all cheeses (this is prob why I'm fat!)

I love coriander but the "tastes like soap" thing is apparently genetic so I'm not gonna criticise those who don't like as they can't help it. To a non soapy genes person it's a more pungent intense flavour in the way basil is? Just a different pungency. Hope that makes sense to the soapy people

I am sure Su is a national treasure and all that and she is just doing her thing but I cannot watch the scenes where she is overdoing the 'kookie' thing. In fact I have found this week's episodes so boring I keep wandering off and doing other things instead of watching.

Sleb MasterChef is always the worst of the three. I only watch it because these threads are so excellent.

Re the veal: they used rose veal, which is better. More like lamb for age.

@Graphista, I have tried to grow my own coriander for years and it always tastes like bitter, soapy chemical ghastliness.

Yet coriander from a supermarket, fine. So I am embarrassed to say I can only eat the polytunnel stuff.

And I agree the cheese test thing was soooooo boring.

I missed you all last night, it wasn't the same watching on catch-up without this thread to keep me amused.

Su is really annoying me, I can't bear the 'oh, look at me, I'm so dippy' act. If you don't want to cook then fine, go and do the ice-skating show.

And yes to the boring cheese tasting round. I was quite excited when it was announced until I saw the cheese - not the most inspiring choice. I also love cheese and would spends hours wandering round French markets buying more than I could possibly eat. Perhaps next week it'll be Kraft slices and Dairylea dunkers.

On a positive note, I thought the carbonara test was a good one - a dish that most people know but few people have made properly.

Normally love all flavours of Masterchef but Su Pollard has ruined these episodes for me!
I cannot stand the fucking fakery “ ooh look at me I’m so showbiz and so quirky”! There is no enjoyment at watching her food preparation - her work station looks like a rubbish tip.

She should have been booted out first of the five. The subjectivity of Gregg and John is not good enough any more _ there should be other judges/ different hosts.

I can't stand Sue Pollard either. Never have liked her.
Fingers crossed she'll go out soon. She should have gone instead of Rita, who obviously has a "feel" for food.
