Surely its not just me addicted?😃 shes amazing really what shes achieved after coming out of an ultra orthodox life. She seems to have gone the complete opposite. Its interesting and trashy at the same time, right up my street😂

I'm on episode 3 and totally hooked.

Totally amazing to have achieved all she has.

I felt so much for her during the conversation with her youngest son about his ultra beliefs and actions.

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 19/07/2021 07:51

I just came on to see if there was a thread on this. On episode 3 and liking it so far.

Can't help but think there's a bit more to it than leaving that life, having a successful shoe line within a couple of months then Creative Director at La Perla?! Just like that?!

EachandEveryone · 19/07/2021 10:47

Im on episode 3 as well. I wonder if her ex husband will come into it?

The ex husband seemed so much nicer and more normal than I expected in the conversation with the younger daughter.
But clearly there is more to him.

I'd like to know how the mom went from selling insurance to La Perla and where she is now too.

How do you find the son in law? He seems stuck between both worlds and clearly not happy.

makingmyway10 · 19/07/2021 13:07

Oh just discovered this! I am on episode 4. I too think it’s such a jump from selling insurance to La Her role at La Perla and would love to know more.

I don’t think that she is being fair on the children with her explicit book. Those sexual details are not necessary and will embarrass her children particularly the details about Batseva’s marriage!

I admire her otherwise.

makingmyway10 · 19/07/2021 13:08

I love Robert!

whenwillthemadnessend · 19/07/2021 13:15

I loved it tho it's been on Netflix ages so I'm surprised to see this thread so late

BiscuitLover09876 · 19/07/2021 13:21

Love this!! Agree some of it looks staged and I think there is more to the story with regards to how she became so successful.

Love it though and love the messaging of love and acceptance. Plus the fancy clothes. Grin

Really? It shows as new for me and in top ten for UK.
EachandEveryone · 19/07/2021 15:21

Although the elder daughter reminds me of a Kardashian which is abit annoying I cant put my finger on it. The mum is married to an actual billionaire there cant be many of them around. The house in the Hamptons is stunning.

@whenwillthemadnessend Do you mean Unorthodox?

BikeRunSki · 19/07/2021 15:30

It’s “Unorthodox” that has been on Netflix for several months, “My Unorthodox Life” is something similar but different.

JohnnyLuLus · 19/07/2021 15:41

I think she is amazing to have just thought "fuck this" and changed her whole life.

daisyducky · 19/07/2021 16:26

I'm totally into this too. Bingeing! Really wanna read her book!

MrsBonnie · 19/07/2021 20:32

Halfway through episode one. Cringing so much at Miriam asking to kiss that girl on the date. So staged 😂😂 and then further on Julia and Silvio’s proper snog.

Agree with @EachandEveryone about the Kardashian vibes from Bat. You can tell this family have money now!

Sorry wrong thread BlushBlush

FlyingBattie · 19/07/2021 21:30

I binge watched this over the weekend, and I normally hate reality TV!
Very staged!
I love Robert and need him to have his own spin off show.

EachandEveryone · 20/07/2021 06:58

Im halfway through it why are they swearing so much? Ive really noticed it compared to other shows. The young woman that visits from the community it was so staged she didnt seem shell shocked at being in the city at all.. Im beginning to wonder how orthodox they all were really. The young boy strikes me as being modern orthodox like her sister its not half as bad as the ones we saw in Orthodox the drama.

Her book isn't released until March 2022. I want to know more about how she went from housewife to CEO of a major brand in 7 years

Travielkapelka · 20/07/2021 09:03

I think it’s fascinating. I do feel that the boys are far less comfortable with the secular life than the girls, maybe because men’s lives were much less restricted. And all 3 of them seem a bit lost. I totally understand why she’s keen for the youngest one in particular to have a bit more of an open mind. She’s not stopping him being religious but she doesn’t want him to be extreme

I agree that there’s definitely more to story of how she became so successful so quickly.

The ex comes into it a few times later in the series and he seems like a lovely man and the the fact that him and Julia have a good relationship is a real testament to them as it’s pretty unusual.

Clearly she has some real issues and has gone to the extreme but she does highlight some of the real issues in such an orthodox community

Travielkapelka · 20/07/2021 09:06

@EachandEveryone I don’t think that the younger son is modern orthodox. That’s what she wants him to be, she feels it’s the right compromise. He’s definitely ultra at the start and that’s why she’s desperate for him to go to the modern orthodox high school. It does seem that the ex husband had also moved slightly, he’s wearing normal clothes and his girl friend in the last episode (sorry spoiler) so a definitely on the more modern side.

ScottishDiblet · 20/07/2021 09:10

I’m loving this also! Love how accepting Julia is of her daughter’s sexuality! She’s amazing but I can’t believe her journey - need more details on how she made the transition. Do you think Batsheva and her husband are going to end up together?

whenwillthemadnessend · 20/07/2021 09:16

Ahh I must have mean unorthodox

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 20/07/2021 09:36

@Travielkapelka would probably help if you put 'spoiler' before the actual spoiler.
