Who was the old bloke who used to carry the bags on for the men on finals day?

There are lot of things that don't happen now.

Like Djok losing.

Grin
Raahh · 10/07/2021 16:41

kazza maybe he's making her dinner? Marcus Wareing scares me Grin.

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2021 16:42

In 50 years time everyone will be wondering why it's called "doing a Pat Cash".

Raahh · 10/07/2021 16:42

Aww, cute picture.

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2021 16:43

That poor old man Raahh. Carrying bags for some of the fittest people on the planet!

Raahh · 10/07/2021 16:43

Jane health and safety will no longer allow it.

It's Pat's legacy.

He's remembered for that more than winning. Wonder if that bothers him? Grin.

Raahh · 10/07/2021 16:44

Jane I know!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 10/07/2021 16:45

@Raahhraah when she was a girl? so cute

Raahh · 10/07/2021 16:46

Absolutely it was a cute picture. And it looked like it was raining.Grin.

Found you! So pleased for Ash.

I was at Wimbledon 50 years ago, the year Evonne won & saw her play on Centre Court (not the finals).

Gosh, I'm getting a bit old!!

GrouchyKiwi · 10/07/2021 16:57

Lovely memory to have, magi.

Fizzywinegum · 10/07/2021 17:01

I used to feel sorry for that little old man carrying the strapping tennis player’s bags

Ash Barty doesn’t look much different now from when she did 10 years ago!

Maireas · 10/07/2021 17:05

How lovely, @magimedi! I remember it on tv!
I felt sorry for him too, @Fizzywinegum. What was originally a task involving carrying two wooden rackets, eventually became a weightlifting challenge of 25 rackets and further accoutrements of the modern game.

Maireas · 10/07/2021 17:06

I remember when there were no chairs for the players and they just stood at the change over having a glass of barley water.

kazzaD66 · 10/07/2021 17:11

Yes! John Lloyd sometimes mentions that, when he's on one of his "it wasn't like that in my day, these youngsters don't know they're born" rants Grin

I’m glad about the hairdressers, I don’t like to think of all the parents panicking because they can’t do French plaits!

Maireas · 10/07/2021 17:17

The ball boys and girls are really well looked after. The woman in charge seemed really lovely, they're not just trained well, but also closely supervised. Their kit is checked so there are no embarrassing moments for them, what with them being young. The girls' skirts have built in shorts. Their food and drink is also regulated.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/07/2021 17:46

I'm watching Skupski & Krawcyk in the mixed doubles semi final. It is such a good match. I had planned to watch the women's doubles final.

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2021 17:49

Not long to go in the women's!

GrouchyKiwi · 10/07/2021 17:57

I spelled Krawczyk's name wrong. Sorry Desirae. But she's through with Skupski to the final tomorrow against Salisbury & Dart.

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2021 17:59

I spoke too soon.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/07/2021 18:02

I'm watching it now Jane. Mertens is mega.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/07/2021 18:04

I like Hsieh's outfit.

Raahh · 10/07/2021 18:09

I had to take the dog out before it rained. The dog was giving me the evils. Grin

It's Djok's wedding anniversary today (don't ask me how I have remembered thisGrin)

It's too much to hope that he will get hungover before the final tomorrow, isn't it?

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2021 18:09

Fizzy your MIL is there.
