I've just finished Scott & Bailey, and Stephen Graham's Time, loved them, same as Luther, Marcella etc.

Looking for a new one now, what's good?

Really? I'm 40mins in and it's not gripping my attention yet.

@LagganBubble I would love britbox, how on earth do you watch it? Do you have one of the magical and rare compatible tvs???? Or is there some dark art I have missed?

Ohmygodyesthatsit · 15/06/2021 19:45

I agree strike ok not brilliant I think people love it more as its written by jk Rowling. I found it very day time tv.

3Britnee · 15/06/2021 19:47

Yeah it seems a bit mockney muggy so far.

Justme10 · 15/06/2021 20:10

Maybe it's because I read the books first and the show stays true to the books

3Britnee · 15/06/2021 20:24

Yeah I think might like the books better. I'll probably end up loving it by the end though 😂

I quite like Strike, although I would certainly put it towards the 'cosy' end of the scale. I've never read JK Rowling (or Robert Galbraith; not sure what name she uses for these ones) and have no particular opinions about her, so am not biased by that.
For me Strike is mainly about the fantastic performances of the two leads and the chemistry between them.

3Britnee · 16/06/2021 11:57

Its certainly not Lenny James' 'Save me', that's for sure. (Very good, if you haven't seen it).

I'm turning it off and trying wallander, I really liked young wallander so giving that a go. This strike is too twee, sorry pp.

3Britnee · 16/06/2021 13:26

🙄 wallander isn't on my firestick. Before we die isn't either. Trying the serpent now.

Ah it's not for everyone Smile True detective is good and also Criminal: UK, that's police interviews every episode is different but very good

MissJeanBrodiesprime · 16/06/2021 13:35

Agree with SinkGirl , Fargo is very good

mistermagpie · 16/06/2021 14:06

We've just finished the Pact and that was quite good.

3Britnee · 16/06/2021 15:20

I watched the pact last week, that was very good.

I loved Strike but also probably because I loved the books.

The Slap is very good on Prime.

The Fall is excellent, watched it all the way through twice.

devildeepbluesea · 16/06/2021 15:31

I enjoyed the Pact, but guessed all the twists (really not difficult, so I'm sure I'm not the only one).
I enjoyed Strike, but preferred the books - and the latest book, Troubled Blood, is the best by a country mile.
Also enjoying Shakespeare and Hathaway (although it's very lightweight, more fluffy daytime stuff, but really good fun).

3Britnee · 16/06/2021 15:47

I've heard the fall is very good, I might watch that next.

God, I didn't see them coming at all Blush Well not the main one anyway, IYKWIM (in case anyone here is still to watch it).

I loved The Fall at the time, but with hindsight I do think might have been a bit exploitative/glamorising of the horror. Gillian Anderson is magnificent though.

gingergiraffe · 16/06/2021 19:20

Lupin on Netflix is brilliant. Just finishing watching the second series but I think you can still get part one. Quirky and slick. Highly recommended.

gingergiraffe · 16/06/2021 19:21

It is in French with subtitles but very easy to watch. I love the music too.

Rollergirl11 · 16/06/2021 20:18

Another vote here for True Detective. The first series with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey is outstanding. Their relationship is soo good.

Also Mindhunters about how the FBI started profiling serial killers is very good.

Finally Ripper Street and The Alienist are both very similar in vein to each other, one being set in London and the other New York in Jack the Ripper era.

Rollergirl11 · 16/06/2021 20:20

Oh and The Fall is deffo worth a watch although the series get worse as they go on and I was shouting at the TV by the 3rd series.

3Britnee · 20/06/2021 06:51

I'm watching cruel summer now, and its 👌. If you haven't seen it, watch it!

BikeRunSki · 20/06/2021 06:56

That’s what I came on to say

musicalfrog · 20/06/2021 06:57

If you're OK with a series set in the recent past, Inspector George Gently is very good.
