Jane me too. Sad

kazzaD66 · 11/06/2021 22:36

The other King of Clay lost today aswell, in Nottingham.

Raahh · 11/06/2021 22:37

We can only hope that Djok- and his ego- were so focused on beating Rafa, that he has forgotten he actually has to beat someone else, and he isn't the champion (even though they were talking like he is already)- and Stef completely blind sides him on Sunday.

Even though, a small part of me, doesn't want to watch.

Raahh · 11/06/2021 22:37

kazza it's a sad day for the Clay Kingdom.

ScienceSensibility · 11/06/2021 22:40

@JaneJeffer

Definitely Grouchy It's been many years since I had such an exemplary vegetable.
Genius level post.

V annoying, I was going to whizz to Nottingham and watch him tomorrow. 😡

That’s a bad loss for Dan, he really should be seeing off opponents like Kudla with relative ease.

Come on Tsitsipas. Wipe that sneer off Djerk’s face on Sunday.

MajesticWhine · 11/06/2021 22:46

Urgh. I'm gutted. There is only one thing more to say and that is come on Tsitsipas. Rooting for you.

kazzaD66 · 11/06/2021 22:46

It was a bad loss science especially on grass. He's now losing far too many matches that, on paper, he should be winning.

Gutted for Rafa but I hate to say that Cock was far & away the better player.

Just hope he is so overcome by the emotion of beating Rafa that he can't beat Stef.

Exactly, kazza

He really has the game to break into the Top 20, but too many duff losses this year.

Although, he did beat Djokovic so he gets a squillion house points for that. 😀

Morning all, looking forward to the women's final later and very much cheering Stephanos tomorrow.
Saw a tweet from a guy who was in the stadium last night, said he would happily have left if it had meant Rafa got a break and then won lol

PrivateSpidey · 12/06/2021 11:30

Morning Mama yes I'm looking forward to the women's final too. I think the men's doubles final is today as well which should be good.

I wonder how Djokovic will come back from last night's match for the final. I think Tsitsipas has a decent chance.... they've had some close matches recently. You never know...

Mama1980 · 12/06/2021 11:48

private I need Stephanos to win tomorrow - I really do lol.
Rafa as always dignified and gracious in defeat but he looked very upset.
I can't decide who I'd like to see win the women's

Raahh · 12/06/2021 12:39

Private I've been thinking about Djok- and- being the arrogant person he clearly he- I wouldn't be surprised if he viewed yesterday at the 'hard work' and tomorrow should be the easy bit. He has a habit of walking on court and treating his opponents as 'less' than him (not with Roger and Rafa- even he's not that daft) and it can come back to bite him. The fact he was probably so focused on beating Rafa might help Stef.

Can't help wishing Mussetti had finished the job...

Rafa did look upset- and he was his usual self in his press conference-no excuses. Though he didn't say it was a disaster Grin.
He said something about his schedule though- which made me wonder what his plans are.
Few mixed feelings- if Stef wins- he moves up to number 3 ahead of Rafa.
Wimbledon are not using their convoluted formula for seedings this year- it is based just on rankings.

I'm not sure who I want to win this afternoon- but I hope it will be a good match.

Raahh · 12/06/2021 12:40

I hope Mahut and PHH can win today- that might go a small way to cheer me up- I do like Mahut.

Raahh · 12/06/2021 14:11

I've just seen the draw for Queen's.
Murray plays Paire in the first round. That might be interesting.

I've got to say, the 'big' names seem to have gone to Halle this year, so Roger might not have it all his own way. Usually Queen's attracts more.
The top seed is Berrettini at Queen's, and Shapovalov is the secod see. But Halle has Medvedev, Zverev, Rublev, Khachanov, Goffin. Stef has accepted a wild card (though he might regret that tomorrow).
Oh- and Federer- obviously Grin.

Raahh · 12/06/2021 14:15

Sad to see Cilic not at Queen's- he's usually a bit of a stalwart- and no Dimitrov either.

Bit of a problem for Medvedev- he faces Struff in his first round. Grin.

Raahh · 12/06/2021 14:41

Hmm not counting any chicken, having seen how yesterday went- but I hope this isn't going to be as one sided as the Rome final with Swiatek.

Not looking good though- for Pavlyuchenkova.

Raahh · 12/06/2021 14:53

and now she's fighting back Grin.

Fizbosshoes · 12/06/2021 15:28

Slightly off topic (sorry I've only just found this thread so may have been discussed at length before) about the men and women getting equal prize money. Last nights semi final between Djokovic and Nadal was amazing quality and over 4 hours. If you count the number of hours of tennis the players play to get to a GS final, the women are paid vastly more, per hour of play.
There probably wouldnt be enough time and court space for both men and women to play 5 sets , but what if it was best of 3 sets until say, quarter finals, and then best of 5 for quarters, semis and final for both men and women? Would that work?

Raahh · 12/06/2021 15:28

I'm not surprised Petchey's answer to medical time outs, is to say, if you want one, forfeit 2 games. He's obsessed with shortening the matches- I don't think he will be happy until all matches are over in an hour.

Raahh · 12/06/2021 15:34

I think the problem with saying the women's matches are shorter, so they should get less, is that it's not just about the matches, or tournaments. They still train just as hard to get to the tournaments as the men. It's like saying - should Usain Bolt get a smaller medal because he only runs for 10 seconds- and a marathon runner runners for 2 hours plus. They train the same.

At least, that's how I justify to myself- although it happens far more in the women's matches, than the men's that you get very one sided results. Is it right that Pliskova lost 6-0 6-0 in Rome- and got the same money as Djok?

I would hate to see the end of 5 sets at the slams, it's what makes them special.

I don't really know the answer. Grin

Raahh · 12/06/2021 15:41

It's a real shame here that Pavlyuchenkova is injured, because she was really starting to fight back.
