@apilaud

I hope there's no aggro from the audience when Israel perform.
Seemed all right in the semi final.

The performer is interesting, of Ethiopian heritage. (Beta Israel / Falash Mura.) Not long finished her military service.

apilaud · 22/05/2021 15:49

That's true. I think the contest itself has a ban on politics but it always finds it way in through the voting and I IIRC there's been audience aggro towards countries in the past. Hopefully all goes well in that respect.

Anyway, my favourite performances tend to be from the tiny Eastern European countries you barely hear of outside Eurovision. They are always fantastically bizarre.

I hope there's no aggro from the audience when Israel perform.
There wasn't at the semi final they were in.
JaquelineSequinWindmachine · 22/05/2021 15:52

Scott Mills Radio 2 show on now is pretty good! Interviews with destiny and dadi.

RedToothBrush · 22/05/2021 16:21

@OldGreyBoots

Does eurovision go on iplayer live? No telly at the moment but would watch it on computer if possible Shock
Yes. Or you can watch online at eurovision.tv or through the official eurovision youtube feed.
RedToothBrush · 22/05/2021 17:13

Its not blue!!!!!! Arrggghhhhhh

(DH may have been lovely and bought blue food colouring to go with!)

Eurovision 2021 2 voting is now open!
Raahh · 22/05/2021 17:25

I am really looking forward to tonight. My main goal is to last to the end Grin.

Usually, I have an idea who I want to win. I'm leaning towards Iceland, mainly because they seem a genuinely great bunch. I like Finland. Ukraine had bat shit quality to it, that usually appeals to me. But , I don't really have a definite winner.

The fact I haven't been humming the tunes to any of them- and at least one or two usually get in my head after the semis (I have still got 'Spirit in the Sky' stuck in my head, instead Grin) speaks volumes for me really.

I'm still miffed Denmark didn't get through. Grin

It's going to be fun Wine Grin

ilovesooty · 22/05/2021 17:28

I'm so excited!!!

OublietteBravo · 22/05/2021 17:29

I’ve located the antique blue curaçao. What do I mix it with?

Eurovision 2021 2 voting is now open!
OldGreyBoots · 22/05/2021 17:30

Thanks RedToothBrush! The Eurovision site and YouTube don't seem to show it in the UK but I'll give iplayer a shot then Smile

Raahh · 22/05/2021 17:36

Oubliette a 'blue lagoon' was my 'cocktail of choice' as an oh so sophisticated teen Grin. Vodka, Blue bols, Lemonade, a slice lemon and a cherry Grin

ChelseaChop · 22/05/2021 17:50

We’re having a small Eurovision party at ours tonight. I’ve made 6 bingo cards, have quite a bit of alcohol and a cheese board to represent UK/ France/ Italy / Spain / Germany

Looking forward to a good night after such a shit year

Will be lovely to see the crowd enjoying themselves

EmphaticPeriod · 22/05/2021 18:21

orange juice oubliette to make a lovely lurid green drink I had at 13!

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/05/2021 18:26

Just nipping out for the snacks.

Blue Bols and lemonade - the 80s sophisticated teenage drink of choice! Well, we thought it was sophisticated.

GreenTeaPingPong · 22/05/2021 18:29

Is the voting a mixture of juries and public votes this year?

Perhaps we should add to the bingo, giving 12 points to a neighbouring / allied country.

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2021 18:33

Hellloooo.

It us a while since I have drunk enough to 'enjoy' Eurovision but I will be here notwithstanding. British media is bigging up James Newman's chances. As if.

SpindleWhorl · 22/05/2021 18:39

I'm afarid, much as we've tried to like it, 'Embers' is not admired in this house. It's too x-Factor. Which is not a good thing.

Raahh · 22/05/2021 18:39

Piggy I agree- James seems like a nice bloke, and I don't think he deserves nul points- but I think he will be lucky if he makes it to the left hand side of the score board.

OublietteBravo · 22/05/2021 18:46

I can’t make myself like Embers. I wouldn’t vote for it even if I could. It isn’t going to trouble the left hand side of the scoreboard. I’d expect it to finish somewhere between 20th and 26th. I wouldn’t actually be surprised if it finished last.

SpindleWhorl · 22/05/2021 18:59

Embers, my honest critique:

It's a boringly ok song.

Performance: poor delivery, average singing, no charisma.

'Staging': like something from a fucking cruise ship cabaret. Dancers pretending to play trumpets, awful lighting, ghastly costumes, and dreadful use of the space.

Sound: what have they done to the sound??! This should have the velvet gut-wrench tone and beat of club / northern soul and it's just ... disappointing.

Ah well. I'm sure he's a lovely lad.

LookItsMeAgain · 22/05/2021 19:08

I know I really should have waited until song #9 but I really couldn't wait so I'm already on glass #2 (had the first one with my dinner) of Pinot Grigio.... I have no will power at all Grin. I am here though and as the night progresses, I can only imagine that my typing will contain more and more typos and spelling errors....but sure it's EUROVISION NIGHT!

LookItsMeAgain · 22/05/2021 19:10

In the past 24 hours we had a Eurovision emergency here in Ireland:

Feel better soon Edward of Jedward fame.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 22/05/2021 19:12

People should not be allowed to knock sick on Eurovision night when I am on call.

Je suis raging. Nothing to do with it being a pleasant night and restrictions being lifted with beer gardens and the like. Oh no.

🤬

I’m taking leave for next year.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 22/05/2021 19:14

I wish I could ‘big up’ embers.

I cannot.
