Couldn't see a thread yet.. maybe it's too early.. but needed to talk to people about Strictly with the news today that Zoe Ball and Ian Waite are leaving ITT!

Will Rylan take over full time? Who will become the resident dance expert?

Also, has anyone else seen the clips of AJ and Curtis on Hollyoaks? Grin I do wonder if he regrets quitting Strictly.. I'm
not sure acting is his forte.

I would too, especially for that last one!!

ScienceSensibility · 15/08/2021 10:14

@SoupDragon

What would be the necessary level of mean...

How about not making spiteful comments at all?

This is an opinions thread.

That covers the gamut from gushing adoration to meh and all points beyond. ‘Spiteful’ is your subjective view of my subjective view. Neither more important than the other.

Stop telling other posters what they can and can’t comment. It’s almost as boring as Nina Wadia, although it does seem to be a habit of yours.

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

I would do it for nowt.

For the frock. For the experience. For the hair and make up.

And for the weight loss. Grin

Me too!! Especially for the weight loss Grin but i would have to have Gio Wink

It will be interesting to see if they do a tour and how popular it is given the line up.. I used to go religiously every year to see the actual celebrities, and got tickets as soon as they came out.

SuperSketchy · 15/08/2021 10:45

Funnily enough, I'm not sure I'd do it. I'm sure the producers are GUTTED to read this Grin

Such a lot of very hard work, strict dieting, (I'm sure they have to diet?), physical pain and stress, to learn a skill that will mostly be unusable. God, don't I sound like Buzzkillington?! But those are my thoughts today. Taking this entirely fantastical and hypothetical scenario very seriously Smile.

I'd do it for a reasonable salary though...or to dance with Aljaz!

Sparklingbrook · 15/08/2021 10:47

I do think that having SCD with people off the street (so to speak) would definitely be a goer.
I wouldn't be applying, but I think i could get behind some randoms, especially if I knew a bit of their back story etc. I mean it's going a bit that way already. Grin

The Rev. Kate Bottley has been angling for Strictly for ages, but after having seen her on Celebrity Masterchef, I say no thanks. I would feel sorry for whoever got partnered with her.

Is she the one that started out on Gogglebox?
EsmaCannonball · 15/08/2021 12:22

Yes, she was on Gogglebox, and her stint on Masterchef rather explained why her husband kept his mouth shut, let her put her feet up on him and just nodded at everything she said. She was a really good cook though.

Ah ok. Not sure she's a celebrity as such. I'm not sure how I feel about people on reality shows doing other reality shows. It's all a bit nuts.

You have people like Rylan and Stacey Solomon who are regarded as slebs but only because of reality shows.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 15/08/2021 13:30

My aunt did a strictly style thing for charity, she had a whale of a time

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 15/08/2021 13:31

It was just a couple of dances in one event I think but loads and loads of training.

Runningupthecurtains · 15/08/2021 13:35

There was a "people's strictly" for one of the charity-a-thons once I would love them to do it again. But it was just one dance not a full on series.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/08/2021 14:52

There was an NHS Strictly in Blackpool a couple of months ago, where the "celebs" were all NHS workers. It was just one night though.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/08/2021 16:48

The ticket draw is open. Glitterball

EvilRingahBitch · 15/08/2021 17:41

Oh I do hope I get tickets this year. I’ve applied every year for god knows how long without success, but it would be amazing to get them this year when you get guaranteed seats rather than having to queue from 6am and cross your fingers. You get a group of 4 rather than the normal two - I’ve mentally booked DD, DSIL and DAunt.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 15/08/2021 18:39

Wishing you all luck 🍀

I can’t even manage to watch it on the telly most weekends so am sending my tickety wishes to everyone else 🤞🏼

iklboo · 15/08/2021 18:43

Thank you @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams - application sent.

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/08/2021 20:36

Is it really wrong to want John to be paired with Johannes so they can do Men in Black for film week and make this shit look good? Asking for a friend...Wink

That would be excellent.
SequinsandStiIettos · 15/08/2021 22:25

It would, right? I am such a nerd. Grin
If I had my way Greg would be decked up in his Willoughby garb with Amy as Marianne dancing to the S+S soundtrack
Rob and Dianne would be both in legwarmers dancing to Maniac
Nina and Neil would be doing bhangra to Mahi ve
but if the latter is deemed typecasting then stick Neil in a blouson and redo Brendan's Starry Night instead (cos Neil's a ringer for Vincent van Gogh) But missed opportunity for some bollywood glamour.
AJ would thrill little girls everywhere were she to dance as Princess Tiana to Almost There
I'd also have Rhys dancing to All the Stars from Black Panther except T'challa doesn't have a cape (well, he did in the comic book but not on screen) and Rhys wants a cape at some point
So I'd have Nancy paso-ing to Be a Man with Rhys and Ugo can get the kiddies' vote as Black Panther
Finally, Sinnerman from Thomas Crown - Aljaz and Sara, stick her in a red wig for a week
The real question is...who gets to be a furry or painted in yellow/blue/insert colour here, this year? Will Amy or Dianne be taking on Janette's weird and wacky?
I come out with all this sad shtick every year Wink

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/08/2021 22:36

And another couple could be ''I see fire'' hobbits (I have no idea what Arwen/Aragorn/Luthien/Beren look like but can see Rose, Tilly or Nadiya with little pointy ears?)

It would just be nice to have some new songs used for Movie Week.

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/08/2021 23:00

Also don't make Dianne dye her hair bright red every year if she's never going to do Ariel and Kiss the Girl
Also use a song from Enchanted - given three were Oscar nominated

GrouchyKiwi · 15/08/2021 23:02

(Sorry if my vague memories of MonkSeal's blog are incorrect. Sorrow)

EvilRingahBitch · 15/08/2021 23:23

My top pick for Movie Week is Golden Years from A Knights Tale, which is a lovely movie dance moment and allows for gorgeous costumes. Doesn’t fit well with any of the standard dance styles to my ears but since when has that ever stopped them?

And I’d love to see a foxtrot to You’re Welcome from Moana, although doing it in Movie Week would present costuming/cultural appropriation problems for the man, assuming we’re unlikely to get a Polynesian celeb any time soon - but you never know, maybe a rugby player?
