Couldn't see a thread yet.. maybe it's too early.. but needed to talk to people about Strictly with the news today that Zoe Ball and Ian Waite are leaving ITT!

Will Rylan take over full time? Who will become the resident dance expert?

Also, has anyone else seen the clips of AJ and Curtis on Hollyoaks? Grin I do wonder if he regrets quitting Strictly.. I'm
not sure acting is his forte.

I'm really disappointed with the line up, so different to other years where they have got some really top celebrities.
I've no idea when it starts, I guess there will be the show where they match the people we've never heard of with their pro partners who are more famous than them at some point. Grin

Elderflower14 · 14/08/2021 06:12

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

Me too elderflower

I’m a bit disappointed. There isn’t one person from that show that I wouldn’t have wanted to see doing a spot of hoofery.

Hope your lovely Wilf is keeping fine ☺️

Wilf is well thankyou.. He is very excited about Rose taking part!!!
GreenClock · 14/08/2021 07:32

Adam Peaty is an excellent signing.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/08/2021 08:15

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

I don’t care who dances. I don’t care who dances with a man or who dances with a woman.

But do the dances everyone is doing. And do them properly. Why no couples choice or whatever to dose a waltz or rumba week.

I don’t want the differences accentuated.

It is all about making us feel something. Dance is art. Art needs to make us feel something.

Chemistry is important. Even if it is all pretend.

Seconded!

The show has galloped drifted away from the "Purity of the Dahnce" at an alarming pace, and what used to be a brilliant programme that was a joy to watch because of the lovely dance performances as well as the competitive element has become more about personalities and "journeys" Hmm.

Obviously I'll still watch it, but I don't learn anything about dance and techniques the way I did in the earlier series - and wile I don't mind meeting people's babies and pets, I don't think that scrabbling for points based on whether their Nan enjoys guinness when she watches the show.

DANCE, please.

Well-performed, within the rules for the particular dance, and no missing out the hard ones.

And yes - chemistry, feigned or real, IS important! (Come back Arlene - all is forgiven)

Personally I'm not keen on same-sex couples because there are very few traditional dances which suit them - and I do think it places that couple at a disadvantage. I'm not sure why "presenting" gay individuals in same-sex couples is such a big deal. We all knew that Julian Clary is gay, Rob Rinder is gay, Susan Calman is gay etc - so what?. They are only being asked to dance with their partners - not marry them!

How can the judges make like-for-like comparisons when the dances have to be changed to accommodate single-sex pairings? It disadvantages that pair in almost every dance except the "contempowaft"

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/08/2021 08:18

@SequinsandStiIettos

Yes, I'd forgot he's with Maura. Curtis Pritchard's ex?/mutual PR agreement? Lucky girl. See, this is what I don't want - the helluva game, helluva game mentality. I would hope he wouldn't do that, if paired up. What I want to see is proper choreo, as for any couple, including intense eye flirting when appropriate e.g. argentine, rumba, tango. Gio could pull that off easily. Any pro should be able to. I don't want same-sex bromance adonyne routines (H and Matt on Dancing on Ice, step forward) nor do I want male/female gaze fetishizing (unless it's a Killing Eve theme and the women are in character Wink) nor do I want routines to all be same-costumed mirroring/props between them to keep-it-safe-for-the-grannies routines. I just want a pro, who'll do a good balance of classic elegance for ballroom and hot, steamy for Latin.

Clawdy · 14/08/2021 08:28

Did someone say Nina was a terrible choice?? She's the only one I was really pleased to see! And one of the few I've actually heard of.....

AuntLydiasNewHairdo · 14/08/2021 10:11

Yes, that was unnecessarily mean about Nina.

EsmaCannonball · 14/08/2021 10:15

Nina is the only female I'm familiar with. I was vaguely aware of Katie and Judi and I knew Gordon Ramsay had a daughter who was clinging on to the coat-tails of his fame somehow, but the rest ..... not a clue.

I was hoping that because Greg is tall he'd be partnered with Nadiya, but there are quite a few men taller this year. Please, if there is a god, do not put him with Katya (screechy, O.T.T. and gimmicky choreography). I'd be quite happy if they put him in the first ever male same- sex partnership. Stick him with Aljaz and make them do lots of E.M. Forster-ish ballroom dances, where they get off a punt and feed each other strawberries, knowing that their love can never be. Lots of yearning and cream-coloured trousers.

EvilRingahBitch · 14/08/2021 10:36

That would be amaaaazing Esma. Totally up for any plan that involves Greg in period costume and Aljaz being swooningly romantic in cream trousers.

However happy to compromise on Greg doing lovely waltz in tails with Nadiya and Aljaz giving Sara Dragon the time of her life.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/08/2021 10:46

elderflower

I hadn’t heard of Rose at all but after watching sequin’s clips of Nyle, then I’m looking forward to seeing how she shines strictly stylee.

Good to hear that Wilf is doing fine. Total legend 🤩

SoupDragon · 14/08/2021 11:05

Aljaz giving Sara Dragon the time of her life.

I misread that 🙂

SuperSketchy · 14/08/2021 11:08

Oh yes, I also know Nina! Glad to have another one I know.

iklboo · 14/08/2021 11:42

Horrible thing to say about Nina Wadia!

Who do we think the same sex pairing dancer will be? Johannes or Greasy Arnold (Graziano)?

Aquarius1234 · 14/08/2021 12:00

There is a few too many booked on the female side that are new to soaps/ tv/ fame etc.
Sara Davies hasn't been on Dragons Den long. I was hoping for Karen Brady when the clues back out.
Rose from eastenders only been it a year.
Judi Love last year or two starting being everywhere.
AJ presenter been around a while but suddenly this year appearing on lots of reality tv shows and being given new presenter shows. That have flopped.
Tilly last few years doing cooking stuff with Gordan then got children's show or something.
I'm just saying I would have rather two other females like Nadia and Kate who have at least been around years even if you dont watch their shows.

Aquarius1234 · 14/08/2021 12:05

Carol Mcgiffin or Kaye Adams for the loose women would have been good.
Judi is ok tho it's just shes hardly famous if that's what people care about.
Plus shes only 41 and it seems lacking in the older females.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2021 12:41

Oh yes elderflower Jay Blades is one of my favourites too. I love his history too.

Sheldon and Sequins I sooo agree about the silly fuss being over same sex partnering. Come on GET OVER IT!! IMO the couples should be left to get on with the DAHNCE darling maybe with help from a choreogrpher if they want it.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/08/2021 13:25

Indeed ppeat

There should be no great big ta-dahs ‘oh look we’ve a same sex couple - aren’t we the nuts?* announcements.

It should not matter. As schadey said, they are only dancing - not marrying them.

Although I do see schadey’s point in that some dances won’t suit - a lot could with thoughtful choreography.

But yes yes yes. The dahnce please x1000.

I don’t need journeys, nanageddons, stories de la struggles or owt else.

Wee bit of background then keep dancing.

It ain’t strictly come sob.

FuzzyPuffling · 14/08/2021 13:30

Hello again!

Rejoining the thread (as I sort of forgot about SCD - oops) but I've just seen the list of slebs. I know a few, I don't know a few, I probably shan't care about any of them (especially their "journeeeeees") but I shall enjoy the dancing and the chat here whatever.

Bring it on!

Tyredofallthis1 · 14/08/2021 13:51

@SchadenfreudePersonified yes, I remember Julian Clary and his dance with Officer and a Gentleman was sooooo lovely.

EvilRingahBitch · 14/08/2021 14:13

Actually I can see Aljaz as the new Anton - the choice of any lady over the age of 35 who isn’t that fussed about Salsa and Jive but quite fancies being waltzed around elegantly in a gorgeous frock by a gorgeous man and having a lovely platonic time.

Does anyone have any brilliant ideas for how I can get sufficiently famous quickly? Grin

SoupDragon · 14/08/2021 14:44

There is a few too many booked on the female side that are new to soaps/ tv/ fame etc.

I imagine that there comes a point when they've worked their way though all the "established" celebrities who are prepared to do it. Especially for soaps where they seem to have one taking part every year.

Clawdy · 14/08/2021 15:40

Are any of them likely to be classed as "ringers" ?

Sparklingbrook · 14/08/2021 15:53

Tom Fletcher went to the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London. You aren't telling me they didn't have dance lessons. Matt Willis claims neither of them could dance but hmmm.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/08/2021 15:57

I’m not sure there is an obvious ringer.

AJ seems to never be off the box at the mo and is about to host a MAFS spin off show too.

Im hoping I warm to her because I havent been able to so far. That could be down to the programmes though.

Apocalypse Wow, for example, seems like the modern day version of Eurotrash etc - home from the pub half cut and it makes sense with beer goggles on kind of telly.

Utter mince if sober.

And aye. I’d be happier than happy to get Aljaz. I’m hoping Sara gets him.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/08/2021 18:06

So pleased I watched that film Sequins, and very happy it won an Oscar. I used to help at a dance class for children with disabilities when I was a teen and we signed a bit. Sadly I'm not sure how much help "jump" and "point your toes" would be in everyday life. Grin She's the lady who plays Helen in All Creatures Great and Small isn't she? She always seems like she'd fit the description of a "nice lass"!

Back to Strictly, I can't say I have a particular favourite out of the line up yet, but I'm sure I'll find one quickly!
