Tennis

The big question at the moment is- will Medvedev ever win a match on clay??

Watching this match, I'm beginning to think spectators are too noisy, disruptive and should be discouraged Grin. not really

Although I would gladly never see a full house of fans at the US Open again- therudest spectators seem to go there. Seemingly to eat, and wander about, rather than watch tennis.

Oh- Djok doesn't want to play anymore GrinHe really doesn't like playing in the rain. I can't blame him, it was slippery.

But it's Djok. Grin.

(Obviously, this is a replay, and I know how it ends....)

Loving the commentary on an old match RaahhGrin - no need to worry about the rain Djok - it will all be ok!

Fizzywinegum · 11/05/2021 18:00

Oh or did Andy win that one? I can’t remember - I’m getting confused Blush. Oh well nothing new with Djok moaning about the weather and the conditions!

Raahh · 11/05/2021 18:19

YY, Andy won that one Grin
I'm now watching the replay of the Giorgi/Sorribes Tormo match, which is over 3 hours 20 minutes long at this point and 4-0 in the 3rd to Giorgi.

Basically, if we do end up with a Rafa/Djok final, we need it to rain. Rafa does prefer the sun, but definitely copes better with worse weather conditions than Djok (who generally moans from the off).

OP posts:
Raahh · 11/05/2021 18:23

Now I know how this match ends too- but didn't watch it at the time- it would have been a brilliant one, with spectators. It was unlucky that either player had to lose.

OP posts:
Raahh · 11/05/2021 18:25

And I have just read that Djok was indeed ranting at the umpire during his match against Fritz, because he felt they carried on playing too long in the rain Grin.

OP posts:
Raahh · 11/05/2021 18:27

It's nice to other players watching around the stands. I suppose there's not much else to do Grin.

3 hours 51, this match ended up being.

OP posts:
Raahh · 11/05/2021 18:55

Oh- they have just shown the part where Djok started yelling at the Umpire earlier. He was properly screaming.

it shouldn't be allowed- and if it had been a lesser player, I wonder if they would have been allowed to carry on playing?

OP posts:
Raahh · 11/05/2021 19:10

Well, sadly Djok won.

I think if the weather had been less rainy, and they'd stayed out a bit longer, Fritz might have forced a 3rd set.

Djok won't be happy with the delay though. And apparently, this is the Umpire that called him 'Federer' during a match last year.

Oops! Grin

JaneJeffer · 11/05/2021 19:15

Boo. I'm hoping he gets knocked out within the next couple of rounds.

Raahh · 11/05/2021 19:20

Yes, Jane we can hope.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 11/05/2021 19:21

Boo! I’m still a bit confused about what’s going on in which match Grin - Djok is horrible - he shouldn’t be allowed to get away with his bad behaviour (the umpire calling him federer sounds funny though)

I think we’ve got the Rome weather - it’s thundering and lightning and pouring down here Hmm

Raahh · 11/05/2021 19:32

We had Rome weather earlier, Fizzy. I'm sick of rain.
The dog is miserable. Grin

Djok is an arse. I am going to assume he got some kind of fine for the vitriol against the umpire- it was very full on. There are times he makes Kyrgios look like a kitten. Grin.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 11/05/2021 19:36

But he seems to get away with it doesn’t he and then wonders why people don’t like him - grr!

It’s hailing here now - I’m with your dog - I’m fed up of this weather!

It’s Karatsev and Medvedev up next I think - that should be interesting - I don’t think Daniil’s a fan if the clay!

Raahh · 11/05/2021 19:55

No, Daniil is not great on clay- and Karatsev seems to be able to play anywhere.

The early start for Domi's match- and the late one for Rafa- means I will be sitting watching tennis most of the day Grin.

Apart from the pesky school runs- and taking out the dog. I think the dog might take the tv remote out and bury it, if I don't walk him on time (he has a very set routine Grin).

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/05/2021 10:05

Not a good start for Domi- lost the first set to Fucsovics- he really does seem to be struggling a bit lately.

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/05/2021 10:20

There's a lot going on. RBA is in a tight one against Garin. ADF is one set up against Norrie. Barty looks like she will win her match.
Topsy turvy match between Gauff/Sakkari- into a 3rd set the previous sets were 1-6 6-1 Grin.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 12/05/2021 10:48

Enjoy your day of tennis watching Raahh Smile

I will hopefully get to see Rafa later but just score watching for now

The weather was crazy here last night - the hail was like snow on the road - it seems a bit calmer today thank goodness

Raahh · 12/05/2021 11:27

He's worked his way back into this match Thiem- he was looking down and out not long ago.

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/05/2021 11:46

Disappointing for Fucsovics- he nearly won the match in the 2nd set- but Dom found his game in the 3rd. Still not 100%, I don't think. But better.

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/05/2021 13:07

Rublev had a bit of battle with Struff- took him a while to serve it out.

Got there in the end though.
