Hope you all don’t mind, getting near the end of thread 7, so thought I’d trot this one out!

@Ejk80

Is the issue not that it was Steve’s own car not his AC-12 car that Kate was in - I think people are wondering why they were tracking his own car
Because they were suspicious of AC12! Carmichael says this. So they evidently tracked their personal cars too, as only tracking service vehicles isn't going to tell you everything.
AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 26/04/2021 13:50

I don’t really care about the car stuff (all too complicated for me) but I thought I heard Kate say something about Steve being promoted when they saw the car, so I had assumed it was a new, better work car as he’s a DI now.

No, she said something like “Steve’s been promoted, he needs to get a grown up car” referring to his non-grown up sporty car.

@WingingItSince1973

Those 2 dodgy police officers in the prison took me right back to when I used to watch Prisoner Cell Block H 🤣
I'm sure one of them was cast because she looks like Joan Ferguson Grin

Indeed - because only a complete numpty would carry out nefarious missions in their service-issued vehicle! Grin

Comeinoutoftherain · 26/04/2021 13:57

I assume there are trackers in all police issued vehicles anyway. Although Carmichael clearly wasn't clear when she told Ted.

Surely you need grounds to put trackers into police officers personal vehicles!

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 26/04/2021 13:58

Aah I see KFleming I must have misheard. Cheers mate :o

Right now I’ve caught up on the threads, can anyone elaborate what the Jeff went on at the workshop? I couldn’t follow the conversation there. Why have they decided to look under the floor?

Carmichael said the Chief Constable ordered it because they didn't trust AC-12. They're supposed to be telling Carmichael everything they know, but they're not. They're not telling Carmichael because they don't trust her or the CC.
LaganBehind · 26/04/2021 14:10

I think the car chase served the purpose for Kate to voice her suspicions about Hastings to Jo - this meant that there was some ambiguity as to why Jo was clamming up at certain points in the interview. Which of the two opposite her made her afraid for her life ? I think Steve gained trust by putting his body in the way of a corrupt AFO.

Of course we know and trust Hastings. His Dad did sterling work in the service of Hercule Poirot after all and raised him very well when he was deployed to Belfast Smile

It seemed to be based on a hunch following the police officer listing what they had found in there. (Which included blot cutters, which Ryan Pilkington had previously used to torture Steve - don't know if that's significant?)

BentBastard · 26/04/2021 14:13

Also OCG have form for hiding things under floors (series 2). I think it was Kate that discovered that too (from the roll of her lipstick on the floor)

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 26/04/2021 14:17

The bolt cutters were in the van - Steve winced when Chris said it. I think the floor looked quite new and clean, apart from the chalk body outline and sand over the blood, and that's why Kate said to dig it up. Putting very heavy stuff over what you're concealing stops people from having a quick look.

What did the OCG steal from the police destruction warehouse last series? I'll be there's something from there buried at the industrial unit.

JaneJeffer · 26/04/2021 14:17

Is it something else people mean or are querying?
I want to know what reason they had for tracking them. Saying they don't trust them isn't enough.

I think that's all we're getting. It was deus ex machina to find Kate - and now we all move on.

Also valuable dialogue to hear 'the Chief and I don't trust you' so we know where Carmichael is aligned, and that she's suspicious of AC12 and manifesting that through official channels, albeit it in a not very detailed explanation.

JaneJeffer · 26/04/2021 14:23

If it was my car I wouldn't stop until they told me why!

OwlDoll · 26/04/2021 14:26

After Steve shot the sniper in episode 3 there was a lot of tongue in cheek talk on social media that he would make a great James Bond. After the car chase last night I vote Kate for Bond. She's more badass than Steve will ever be.

EsmaCannonball · 26/04/2021 14:28

I've just been reminded of Farida saying that people don't know what Jo is capable of. Was that just a throwaway comment or was Jo abusive or a psycho to live with? Another mad theory: Jo's mum was abusive, Jo killed her and Tommy Hunter or Thurwall helped her cover it up and that's what they've got on her. Jo wants AC-12 to bring down the OCG but only to the extent that it gets them off her back.

BentBastard · 26/04/2021 14:28

Kates always been superior to Steve IMO (except at undercover, she sucks at undercover, which actually could scupper her as a spy career)

Great theory!

Hercule Poirot 😂😂

Given that Carmichael has made clear that she will not tolerate any questioning of her actions or anything deemed to be disobedience or insubordination, it would be a foolish move (both career-wise and in terms of the investigation) fir Steve to piss her off and get himself disciplined or transferred off the case (not least with Occ Health breathing down his neck).

Steve’s (mostly) smart enough to know when to push things and when to keep quiet. Pissing Carmichael off now will likely rebound on both him and Kate & fuck up the investigation even further, so he’d be a fool to push the tracker issue.

RevolvingPivot · 26/04/2021 14:35

If you were Jo and were innocent surely you would talk to the police. Not no comment everything.

I don't think she's afraid for her own life. Maybe the OCG have someone close to her and are threatening them harm if she doesn't do what they say.

Anyone else?

GlassBoxSpectacular · 26/04/2021 14:37

I've just been reminded of Farida saying that people don't know what Jo is capable of.

I wondered about that too: they deliberately included that clip at the start of the show, so what exactly has Jo done that’s so heinous? She gave the impression that she’d mainly been tasked with diverting police attention away from the OCG.

GlassBoxSpectacular · 26/04/2021 14:37

After what happened to Jimmy Lakewell?

I'm just glad it's a Bank Holiday in England (not sure about rest of UK) next Monday. I may need a calming wee dram after next Sunday. 🥃
