Hope you all don’t mind, getting near the end of thread 7, so thought I’d trot this one out!

I think Jo is bent but because she was made to be, her insisted that she isn't is maybe her saying she's not really a bad person but she has no choice?

WhoWants2Know · 27/04/2021 08:35

I didn't get the impression that Tommy sent his sister to Glasgow for any altruistic reason. Jo said that her uncle was in absolute control over her mum, to the point that she killed herself when she realised he was pulling Jo into the situation.

jugglingeverything · 27/04/2021 08:41

We don't yet know if there will be another season. Introducing JN may be a hint there is more to come. Then everything wouldn't need to be tidied up in episode 7. Usual pattern is that the main crime is solved but then it leads onto other things for the next series.

I've just seen a tweet which suggested the cash in the attic was part of the money that Corbett had from OGC or even Steph moving cash thru the hairdressers and THAT is why it was from the same cashe as the bribe money. So its not that Ted gave it to Steph. We don't actually know what was in the envelope he gave at the graveside. Maybe its just to mislead us. Tiny glimmer of hope that Ted was not currupt there. Although the fact there is now so much going down at the place he took his laptop is really worrying me. And did they ever find the laptop? Is it going to turn up now? Confused

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 27/04/2021 08:46

Who is JN @jugglingeverything?

Clawdy · 27/04/2021 08:54

It's an odd reaction for a mother to kill herself because she sees her daughter getting into danger. Most would do anything to try and save their child.

@MotherOfGodWeeFella

Who is JN *@jugglingeverything*?
Wee Jimmy Nesbitt.

You can never account for people's responses to high levels of stress, but yes, I think this probably supports the suspicion that she was killed and it framed as suicide (as we've seen OCG do at least twice).

Which doesn’t make sense

Kill yourself and def won’t be able to look after and protect your donkey

Maybe she was told she killed her self

Did she ever see the body

jugglingeverything · 27/04/2021 09:27

I think that rape and bent police officers have to link back to Sandsview.

I feel relieved (altho its a sad story) that Jo has developed into a more complex character. Its a deep arguement about whether we are born good or bad or whether our circumstances make us that way. She was born in horrific circumstances. Has clearly had an awful life. And is now struggling with the things they are asking her to do, wanting to be better but in too deep to escape. So she is bent but has been forced into that route her entire life.

Or she's lying.

Interesting notion about the cash not being from Ted. We've always been led to believe that it was £50k in that envelope but I don't think there's any evidence to support that. If he did give Steph money, it may have been £10k, or £20k for all we know. And it's dirty money so will need to be laundered somehow.

Still intrigued by Ted's laptop. If he wasn't dodgy, why did he feel the need to dispose of it? I think he said something about porn but i don't buy that. I'm still going with the (very outside) possibility that it WAS Ted at the end of the message to the OCG misspelling "definitely". I'm hoping I'm wrong of course.

I'm going to have to watch this bit again but they said in the interview didn't they that the death certificate was an "interim" one, suggesting that there was no established cause of death (or even a death at all).

I'm not sure if I was imagining it, but I felt that Jo was being led in the interview at that stage by Steve into confirming her mother had died by suicide. And yes, very odd for a mother to commit suicide rather than staying around to protect her daughter.

On that basis, it's possible that Mrs Thurwell is in fact Jo's mother?

I'm not sure if this is just pointless theorising now...

And bloody Carmichael and her whispery, pausy, mumbly smirkiness is seriously getting on my tits now. If there's a s7, please Jed, do not bring her back. Please!

Although the circumstances are different I assume we are supposed to see the parallels between Terry and Jo. Both were powerless against the insidious influence of the OCG. Jo was unable to escape the clutches of the Hunters or her step father, just like Terry. And both seen clearly that nobody could help them.

Both put themselves at risk if they reach out for help and don’t see the authorities as places of safety.

Constantcrayfish · 27/04/2021 09:48

I think Dot and Jo are also very similar indeed. So many parallels between them.

OneRankSuperior · 27/04/2021 09:57

@Bluntness100

But I think they’ve explained it poorly in the edit - I think there should have been an immediate aftermath scene where Kate made the decision to run that would have made this clearer

And that’s the question, was it very poorly done, or was it deliberately withheld to be revealed on Sunday.

I don’t think it makes sense for there to be something yet-to-be-revealed, as otherwise why would Kate not have revealed it already (particularly when she spoke to Steve in the car park).

Personally I think the whole thing was mostly about injecting a car chase into the episode to give what otherwise would have been a very ‘talky’ episode some action and drama. It would have been plausible(ish) if it had been better set-up.

I think it needed a scene immediately after Kate shot Ryan where Kate quizzed Jo about whether they were safe now (“Who else knows we are here?”), Jo is all panicky and says she doesn’t know, Kate has a moment’s hesitation - can she trust Carmichael hasn’t shut things down? Is help coming? Would they be safer to get out of there? And then they run...

@Furries well obviously I meant to type donkey 😂😂😂

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 27/04/2021 10:49

JN is not a character - that's what threw me!

I'm leaning more and more towards Jo having murdered her own mother. I think that's what Farida meant when she said, "You don't know what she's capable of".

RevolvingPivot · 27/04/2021 10:52

@Bluntness100

There’s defintely something missing

We never saw Kate shoot Ryan, now you’d expect after she did, she’d take jo in, because she set her up to be murdered.

But she didn’t. She went on the run, she trusted jo more than she trusted the police, and she did everything she could to evade the police, then didn’t wish to put her gun down.

So something is to be revealed there as to why Kate did that. It’s not a natural course of action, up until that point she’d never have done that. She’d have taken jo in,

So the fact we never saw Kate shoot Ryan, and then suddenly after it her behaviour changed oddly and she was sure she was being set up, not by jo but by the police, shows somethings yet to be revealed about that.

The whole thing is missing, Kate actually shooting Ryan and then what happens next to cause Kate to go on the run with the woman who just set her up.

Exactly this.
RevolvingPivot · 27/04/2021 10:54

@OneRankSuperior

My guess with Kate running is that it’s what *@Dirtystreetpie* said - in the circumstances (surveillance withdrawn, Carmichael taking Steve’s phone etc) she can’t trust anyone.

But I think they’ve explained it poorly in the edit - I think there should have been an immediate aftermath scene where Kate made the decision to run that would have made this clearer.

But they’ve not shown that in favour of creating a moment of tension when we see AC-12 walking up to the scene and we don’t know who is dead.

I think that's the point. It wants us all to chat about it on SM and cause suspense so we all watch Sunday.
RevolvingPivot · 27/04/2021 10:55

@Blondeshavemorefun

Ffs daughter not donkey
😂😂🤣 I thought that was Irish slang for daughter
Buggerthebotox · 27/04/2021 10:57

What's happened to Farida now? Is she still in custody? Seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. I think she has a story or two to tell - particularly about "what jo is capable of" so we need to hear it, don't we?

I agree that Jo was excellent in that episode. Nice to have a talky one for a change. Great performance there by KM.

RevolvingPivot · 27/04/2021 11:01

Poor Freida I wonder how many injuries she's had since 😬
