It's the one I remember least and I feel like I need to look for clues before next week.
Anyone fancy joining?

Were on Roz Huntley (series 4) at the moment.
I'm really stressing out every time she flushes a dressing/plaster down the toilet. (I know this is literally the least of her worries!!😂😂)
Agree Lindsay Denton was brilliant.

I’ve enjoyed S4 a lot more on rewatches.

I just posted on the other thread about S4 though as some things really stand out to me.

Why were OCG members killing prostitutes? I don’t think they were OCG “livestock” as they call them, Hana certainly wasn’t as she wasn’t trafficked, she had two other jobs. AC-12 never queried why someone from the OCG would be killing prostitutes.

Were the trophies taken just to frame someone or are they covering for a senior OCG member / senior police officer who likes killing women?

The OCG went to great lengths to frame Michael Farmer. Tim Ifiekd was framed by Huntley for at least one murder. Yet when Farmer was in custody and Ifield dead, they dumped more parts of one of the women’s bodies. Why? Screwed themselves over there, and they weren’t even using it to frame someone which is their usual MO when dumping body parts. So what was the point?

I’m not sure if it’s bad writing or there’s a big plot point here. Those murders were like a serial killer plot line, but it was apparently just the OCG? It makes no sense.

Also, why didn’t Steve get the promotion he was about to get before his injury? Ted turned Kate down for it, then at the start of S5 she’s been promoted. They never covered why.

I can’t watch the last episode of the first series due to the scene with Gate’s irish wolfhound.
I can handle adult humans knocking each other about , but can’t bear any animals being hurt. I know it’s not real but we had an IWH so it’s heartbreaking.

Buggerthebotox · 23/04/2021 21:57

I think there's a lot about s4 which is incomprehensible and/ or unresolved. I think Leonie and Baswinder were simply collateral damage used to frame bent coppers. The semen was stored to plant on a body part when convenient. I'm not sure if Hana was proven to actually be a prostitute; there was lots of dna found at her flat - including Tim's - but that was in a used condom I think? There was money too, which suggests prostitution but she doesn't fit the profile of a trafficked woman.

I have no idea why Tim was dressing up as a balaclava man. I also have no idea how the cleaning process at Tim's flat left a single - and incriminatory - bloodstain. I also fail to understand why on earth Tim did not check that Roz was actually dead before trying to cut her up. And I've never understood why he was harvesting her dna at the cafe either.

Yes - a lot of effort was put into framing Michael Farmer, including taking the tokens and planting them in his house. Maybe he was just an easy fall guy.

Regarding Steve's lack of promotion to DI, I think that was just to demonstrate that, in promoting Kate before him, Hastings is not the sexist that he was made out to be in s4. That was a running theme, wasn't it? ( and maybe the fact that he had a fumble with Denton and tried to deny it and had a general inability to keep it in his pants had something to do with it as well).

I'm going to watch s4 again. I think it was the weakest of the series and the end was clunky.

I like it a lot more than I did first time round but am finding all these issues frustrated.

I don’t think the women were murdered in order to frame bent cops because they didn’t bother to, and the dumping of body parts was so odd. It’s more like they were trying to cover tracks for someone in the OCG who’s going around killing women, hence Lakewell gave them Farmer to frame... but I don’t understand why they would undo all that by dumping more body parts from storage after his arrest and without framing anyone. I’m sure they could find women who are basically invisible to kill if they wanted to frame someone rather than there being evidence of abductions.

I am sure I remember Hana did confirm she was a prostitute after they questioned her on the evidence, but no signs she was working for the OCG, clearly she wasn’t locked away like the others.

Tim Ifield posing as balaclava man was odd but I suppose it was a way of covering his face that would make sense to those investigating.

With the blood mark on the counter, I just think Huntley missed it as it was away from the rest of the blood, probably wasn’t thinking about the fact she’d hit her head at the time.

Fizbosshoes · 24/04/2021 10:03

I didnt think about it the first time, but she clearly had a severe cut to the head, hence the blood on the counter and you see blood coming from her head when she first fell to the floor. ....but the only cut focused on afterwards was the one on her arm.Even if not severe surely she would have had blood matted into her hair from the head wound?

CheekyWeeShite · 24/04/2021 10:53

You would think so - it was bad enough to knock her out and the head bleeds a lot when cut. I can imagine with the adrenaline running she maybe didn’t feel it until after she’d left the flat though, but just a scene of her cleaning up the wound would have been good!

Slatternforlife · 24/04/2021 16:30

I’m on series 3 now. Did Steve sleep with Lindsay?!

OP posts:
wingsnthat · 24/04/2021 16:42

I don’t think it was ever confirmed. They may not have gone all the way but went pretty far. They were both using each other and trying to achieve their goal at any cost:

Lindsay was trying to set him up and get herself acquitted, hence recording them in action to use against him later. Whilst he was trying to manipulate her with being intimate by hoping that she would slip up, so he could expose her.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2021 21:37

Yes. He admits it later
CheekyWeeShite · 24/04/2021 22:02

No, he doesn’t. He admits they had an awkward mostly clothed fumble and then stopped it “through mutual consent”. They didn’t have sex, according to Arnott.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2021 22:06

I thought he said they did. After lying about it for ages

motherofawhirlwind · 24/04/2021 22:48

We're halfway through s2 on rewatch.

If Steve lied at the end of S1 to help Gates, doesn't that make him a bent copper??

CheekyWeeShite · 24/04/2021 22:48

No, he always says they didn’t have sex and he maintains this throughout.

At one point Denton brings in a recording and asks Steve if he wants her to play it - he says no, and everyone assumes he was lying about not having sex with her.

In Steve’s interview, part of the clip is played and you don’t hear much other than Steve asking if she’s okay a few times. That’s when he says that they were almost fully clothed, they kissed and touched a bit and then stopped.

With the latest season this is good question actually. What is going to do re Ted & the £50k? It’s almost coming full circle
wingsnthat · 24/04/2021 22:52

Just finished rewatching s3 & no Steve denied sleeping Lyndsey - just kissing& touching.
S4 tomorrow.

Best line from one of tonight's episodes was by Hastings 'it's like grandma's nightgown, it covers everything'!! Grin

CommanderBurnham · 26/04/2021 15:41

Series 1 finished! Officially hooked.

Just seen that series 2 features Kelley hawks so v. excited.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/04/2021 16:34

Series 1 is the least good (IMO)
Watch Series 2 ....the first couple of episodes will reel you in nicely .. Grin

SophieB100 · 26/04/2021 19:18

Last 30 minutes of series 3 final episode.
Best TV ever.
Keely Hawkes in series 2 and 3 - brilliant.
I envy anybody watching these for the first time - what a treat.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/04/2021 20:01

Last 30 minutes of series 3 final episode

Oooh yes , the Amazing Dot ( and Kate at her best)

But mainly Dot

.

ShallWeStartTheMeeting · 26/04/2021 20:53

Gates was a great character. His confrontation with Tommy was genuinely nail-biting.

Little Ryan was such a bratty shit I admit I cheered when he got beaten by the poor pensioner. And by Gates.
It just reminded me of every time Joffrey gets slapped on Game on Thrones.
The actor is brilliant- both as a kid and an adult.

eurochick · 27/04/2021 11:16

I've just binged series 1-5. I agree that series 4 fits least well with the main story arch. I think Ifield dressed as balaclava man to try to frame him for when the body turned up. But the series 4 story doesn't fit well with the whole OCG story that drives the other series.

SophieB100 · 28/04/2021 22:10

When Denton turned the tables in the interview in the glass box
"I'm not bent, the question is, are you?" jabbing her finger and shaking her fringe.
Bloody brilliant.
