Ok, I've started a new one in anticipation of Thread 3 filling up tonight, part way through the episode!
@IDontDrinkTea oh well done, that’s my theory shot out the water!!
One other thing, it was definitely Lee Banks that killed Jimmy. The guy who killed the informer at the beginning was called Carl Banks I think, is he a relative??
Yes they are brothers

Sure that was mentioned

That’s the one ted went to see in last series wasn’t it

And he said who are you

CHISistoast · 12/04/2021 08:04

I'm on Team Tommy. I just wondered if those cheeky wee shites at the BBC have slightly morphed Steph into Jo for the photo, to keep us guessing?!

CheekyWeeShite · 12/04/2021 08:05

It all just reminds me of in season 5 when Kate got Jane Cafferty (?) to pick out the person who recruited her from photos and we didn’t see it and it was a big cliffhanger because we thought maybe it was Ted and Kate looked shocked...

And it was Dot. Which is the least shocking thing of all.

I think the armed robbery kid is by far the most likely.

Bluntness100 · 12/04/2021 08:05

Also if it means the persons dna was already on file before jo joined, which is why it was not run and they didn’t catch it when she joined, then it’s an older person.

So a parent, grand parent, uncle/aunt or sibling.

Dugee · 12/04/2021 08:06

@PrincessScarlett

Or Steve is the leak. He's the one that is deep undercover, not Kate. He wants to finish what Corbett started/wants revenge for Corbett's death. Would explain why Steph has such a big part this series.
That's a good point....

I can't wait until Sunday.

Buggerthebotox · 12/04/2021 08:06

Jimmy was in it up to his eyeballs and in prison with Lee Banks of all people. He had a conversation with Vella which he tried to deny, Steve and Chloe know about it and immediately after he coughs to Steve he's back in prison thinking it's for his own safety and he's promptly offed by Banks in front of Buckells (of all people).

The link has to be Chloe or Steve?

Someone had to have known that Buckells was being sent to that particular prison. Why prison and not police custody? Someone must've known that Buckells was being sent there, but who knew he was going to be charged? Has to be Ted? He was the one mysteriously visiting Banks in prison. Did Ted have the clout to charge Buckells and send him to be held in the very same prison as Lakewell in order to authorise, via Banks, the killing of Lakewell in front of a clearly terrified Buckells?

Need to watch again!

GrandmasNightgown · 12/04/2021 08:08

Police started using DNA in mid 80s, and first successful conviction is this one

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/jun/07/killer-dna-evidence-genetic-profiling-criminal-investigation

But it was new tech, and used only for serious crimes.

The NDNAD was formally established in 1994 and up and running a year later. In 1997 there were new powers to take samples from pre-1995 convicts still in prison for violent and sex offences and burglary.

It was only in 2001 that samples could be kept indefinitely , including from suspects (before that it was only convicts) and further amendement in 2003 tomallow samples to be taken without consent.

Not sure the time lines add much, as Jo would probably have joined the police around the time it was getting fully operational.

Is the parent going to be someone from Corbett's list?

Bluntness100 · 12/04/2021 08:13

The timelines would add that it’s an older person. Because basically Steve was saying if it was routinely ran when jo joined they’d habe spotted the dna link.

Which means it was someone already in thr data base.

So it’s someone older, and it’s someone they all recognise immediately. But it’s someone that confused Chloe.

I think they have maybe just assumed James talked. Not that they know it for sure. Whatever steve was told doesn’t implicate Chloe though, as if it did, he’d have dealt with it and not had her in the interview.

So it’s did Steve tell anyone James talked, and who did he tell?

OhWhyNot · 12/04/2021 08:20

I was surprised that they found Jo’s DNA in Farida’s home I thought she would get the place cleaned up by the cleaners as Terry’s flat was

I’m sure the laptop was placed in her flat I think by Ryan

I’m a bit disappointed in Kate she has been totally taken in by Jo but the two senior women on a team working mainly with men I can understand why they have formed the close relationship I think Kate will get tangled up in this relationship dynamic and will want to help Jo rather than exposing the truth

Buggerthebotox · 12/04/2021 08:20

Why would Steve want revenge for Corbett's death though? What was so great about Corbett? He shot Hargreaves in cold blood where there was no need, he took a shot at Steve in the car park, and tortured Roisin to get at Ted (or to extract information from her, perhaps).

Unless.... Steve also wants revenge on Ted for some reason. No idea why at the moment but I think Ted is the key to this. He's turning into a caricature of himself with his predictable Ted-isms. Protesting too much?

That was a really good shot by Steve wasn't it? Hmm. He's supposed to be in such pain with his back, and thrown about in that van, yet still managed to off that marksman with one shot. Great focus and skill shown there, Steve?

CormoranStrike · 12/04/2021 08:21

Re Corbett and Jo being born two months apart - theoretically could one twin could be born very early, the other safely kept going longer in pregnancy?

Foxglovesandlilacs · 12/04/2021 08:23

What an episode!

I’m thinking Tommy too.

As an aside, Ryan is the least menacing person ever Grin can’t take him seriously. Mind you it’s impossible to sound menacing with a brummie accent Grin

Bluntness100 · 12/04/2021 08:23

It could be Steve. Steve could have got blackmailed due to his drugs use. And he might not habe told anyone Steve talked. But he was desperate for James to talk which would indicate he’s not trying to prevent the course of justice.

That’s jo, but she’s doing it against her will, I guess as she’s being blackmailed due to thr family member.

User135644 · 12/04/2021 08:24

@NeedToKnow101

They've really cocked up haven't they, with Farida and Buckell. It's like the Keystone cops in some ways.
Ted should be retired for incompetence. He was completely wrong over Dot, then Corbett.
Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2021 08:26

@ImAncient

Anyone know if this the final series? Wonder whether Ted will be got rid of? Will my Ted (and he is mine) be vindicated??
Sure I read there was s7 as the last
Heyha · 12/04/2021 08:27

I'm.still stuck on what Lakewell said in his Vella podcast about there being a racial motivation...I know lots of POC have had awful things happen to them especially last two series but not from one particular group.
I'm wondering if Jimmy mis-spoke and meant nationalist motivation which would take it back to being something to do with Northern Ireland (Scotland at a push). Just seems an odd detail to include if they aren't going back to it.
But I prefer the idea of it all going back to the care homes and recruiting vulnerable youngsters into OCG that way and by wider association. Makes more sense as the common thread throughout the whole programme.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2021 08:29

@peachgreen

I see the DOBs don't work - good work detective PPs! - BUT the photo of Anne Marie and the photo of Jo's mum are strikingly similar. Weird.
Cousins ?

He went too live at Auntys after mum Ann marie died

Ellmau · 12/04/2021 08:33

Having just rewatched the episode again, one thing I noticed was Jo’s online name for the dodgy laptop comms is ‘User1976’ but according to her police record, she was born in 1979...

Or a sign that they have almost 2000 members of the OCG...

GrandmasNightgown · 12/04/2021 08:36

Ryan's like the problem with police masonry

He's junior to Jo in the police, but senior to her in the OCG, so can pull her strings.

Masons have only been mentioned once I think, when Kate went to the other AC unit for authorisation, and her overt explanation was because it was headed by a woman and therefore free of masons. I doubt it's going to come in as a plot theme (complicated enough already!)

BTW what happened to Deepak - the other one in the Gates team in S1?

Is the race angle because the OCG is white neonazi? With European links? And is that why the attrition rate of BAME officers is so high, because OCG doesn't want them - either in OCG or indeed at all?

ChocBeforeCock · 12/04/2021 08:42

I’m a bit disappointed in Kate she has been totally taken in by Jo but the two senior women on a team working mainly with men I can understand why they have formed the close relationship I think Kate will get tangled up in this relationship dynamic and will want to help Jo rather than exposing the truth

I’m not yet convinced Kate is totally taken in by her - I’m wondering if the tip off about Ryan was a ploy to earn her trust, albeit possibly (rightly) mixed with genuine concern.

As an aside, Ryan is the least menacing person ever grin can’t take him seriously. Mind you it’s impossible to sound menacing with a brummie accent

Ha I actually think he’s being played brilliantly! The baby faced assassin! Though I must take issue with your suggestion he has a brummie accent Grin I’m a brummie and can’t detect that at all. Is it just me?!

That was a really good shot by Steve wasn't it? hmm. He's supposed to be in such pain with his back, and thrown about in that van, yet still managed to off that marksman with one shot. Great focus and skill shown there, Steve?

It was a great shot, possibly not totally realistic but he had used to be a firearms officer in series 1 so you’d expect him to be a good shot

Mintyt · 12/04/2021 08:44

Who was identified over the page pls

ImAncient · 12/04/2021 08:44

But then they have had BAME in OCG so not sure if that’s the link. Care homes is a good one I think.

poorbuthappy · 12/04/2021 08:47

I can not accept Kate as bent.
No.
I think hope she's deep undercover but ultimately good.
Like Snape. Grin

GrandmasNightgown · 12/04/2021 08:49

I know @ImAncient - I managed to write that even though I'd mentioned Gates in the very same post!

Getting carried away with a glimmer of a new idea, I'm afraid
