Thought better do new thread. Hope haven’t jumped on anyone’s toes

@YouKnobhead

I really like the idea - which I think I heard on Shrine of Duty but apologies if it was a pp here, (I can't keep up!) - that Ted may have been Gail Vella's source. Getting no where through official routes, he turns to the media to weed out corruption. It could explain why he ditched the laptop.

I mean, I don't think it's what happened anymore than any other idea, but I like it!

I’m liking that idea @YouKnobhead

No one gets rid of their laptop due to porn

OP posts:
AuntieStella · 09/04/2021 21:34

@Ulysses

Isn’t that the angle Gail Vella was investigating as well. It wasn’t just about OCG but the abuse being covered up by the police as well. It’s mentioned in her interview with the PCC.
She seemed to be more about the covering up of paedophile abuse activity than with the wider range of OCG activities.

So perhaps the next person to be diverted will be one where the two npmeet?

Netaporter · 10/04/2021 08:20

If Chloe is not Gates’ daughter, there is a reason we are being shown the character. My theory is Either she is going to ‘do a Jamie’ in the role and is part of the OCG as per s4 and go down (making room for Tatleen to return next series as I still don’t think we’ve seen the last of her and Jed includes no one by accident) or maybe she is the secret love child of Andrew Laverty?

We already know ep4 is gonna be a big one. One more sleep...!

MatildaMainly · 10/04/2021 08:42

Are you watching the current series and old series at the same time? No wonder you're confused! 😁

@MoonCatcher

Indeed I am Confused Crazy.

I'd watched series 4 and 5, but not the others, although from recaps and clips on other programmes and things I'd read, I kind of half knew stuff. DH is watching this series with me and he hasn't seen any before. It's been a question of filling in enough for him to follow, but not giving away things that I did know that might spoil it for him.

Series 3 is definitely my favourite so far.

longwayoff · 10/04/2021 08:54

What happened to Jackie Laverty's money and properties? Do we know?

MatildaMainly · 10/04/2021 08:58

We're on the verge of finishing series 5, what are the chances of rewatching all of series 6 to date before tomorrow's episode? Grin

I'm also keen to find out more about Chloe. It's not an unusual name, but it does strike a chord with Tony Gates.

Pure speculation on my part but I'm waiting for two people to reappear as major influences on the storylines. As I see it the themes for crimes are money and power, which also covers corruption, on the OCG side and abuse, which you could also include with the OCG 'livestock' activities. That expression makes me sick to my stomach. But it seems more that the abuse of women is just collateral damage for their money making, as opposed to the care homes situation

I'm expecting Philip Osborne to be highly involved in the abuse side and Nigel Morton to reappear as H. Last time I remember seeing him he was mowing a very green lawn, not needing his walking stick at all, retired with a lump sum and tidy pension. It's not saying he still lives in England now though, maybe he retired to Spain and we know where cyber intelligence traced the messenger connection to. I'm on to those two fellas. Just sayin'.

The character I really can't work out is Buckles. Is he someone's fall guy and gained promotion for their ends, is he really daft or is he good at playing daft? He had one line in a past series when he refused to pass on some information, something like 'that game is for mugs' and he let other mugs play it. It made me think he's playing the system and gently seeing out his career, so are the golf pointers just a total red herring and Jo's trying to set him up?

I can't work out Steph and if she really has got involved with a shady hair salon, or if that was just a throw away lie. The Irish connection with Ted, John, Ann-Marie McGillis, Jo Davidson and those flipping great big bolts and locks. What is going on?

Can't wait for tomorrow but already an hour isn't enough and the series won't be long enough either.

Netaporter · 10/04/2021 09:02

Today’s Times summary of tomorrow’s episode includes the words ‘plot twist’ 😱😱😱

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 10/04/2021 10:07

Neil Morrissey on Saturday kitchen......maybe Nige is back????

MatildaMainly · 10/04/2021 10:14

Is it not to promote him being in The Syndicate? @bubblebubblebubbletrouble Although that doesn't preclude him being there because of LOD too, but he probably wouldn't be able to say.

Jackie Laverty didn't appear to have any children did she? but she remained a missing person case. Presumably she left a will, but wouldn't she have to be declared dead after 7 years before her assets could be distributed? I don't think we've had any clues as to what happened to Laverty Holdings.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 10/04/2021 10:22

@MatildaMainly - probably i didn't see the intro & despite it only being 4 days ago I seem to have forgotten about the syndicate's existence...
Shame!
Off to listen to shrine of duty while I do my housework. 1 more sleep to ep4...

TotalBastardBollocks · 10/04/2021 10:26

Laverty holdings possible would have been seized as it was proceeds of crime?

Chrysanthemum5 · 10/04/2021 11:03

Thank you to the PP who recommended the Shrine of Duty podcast it's brilliant! I love it when they talk about Steph as Chicken Licken - apparently that's the book she was reading to her children when John died. The way they say it with such relish makes me laugh every time Grin

SingToTheSky · 10/04/2021 11:16

Just finished my rewatch of s1. Some questions for those who are more observant and/or better at inference than I am:

  1. Why did gates kill himself when he’d just got a confession? Is it because he was scared it wouldn’t be enough and that he’d be in danger even if Tommy was in prison? Or something else?
  1. Why was gates’ evidence never used?! Obv due to cover ups but at this point we don’t know about people like Hilton, so what would’ve been the official reason? Immunity due to the advice dot gave Tommy in the van?
  1. Linked to 2 - I don’t really understand the terrorism bit - why did they think terrorists would’ve had their fingers cut off, and by whom? How did it benefit the force to believe they were terrorists?
  1. Is it kingsgate station or something where gates works? Hillside is mentioned a couple of times early in the series (like having a good rate of crime reduction in drugs or something?). That makes me think Hillside is an H (but I can’t remember if it’s in s2-5 so I might be overthinking)

I’m intrigued by the bent bannerjee theory - it seems like he’s being nice to Ryan at the end but then why does he go off through the bog on his own if not to be dodgy?

Anyway I am glad I am rewatching - got so much more out of it this time. On to s2...

storminabuttercup · 10/04/2021 11:18

In answer to 1 he'd go to prison. They coveted it up so he died in the line of duty so his wife and kids got a pay out I think

Netaporter · 10/04/2021 11:22

@SingToTheSky

I can only answer 1 off the top of my head.The Ocg had put his dna on Jackie Laverty’s body. He was going down. If he was killed in the line of duty then his wife and kids would get his pension and benefits. They’d get nothing else if he’d just topped himself.

Not really sure about the rest, it’s been a while since I watched it.

Banerjee could resurfaced?

Deffo think Nige is coming back. They’re discussing it now on Saturday kitchen 😉

SingToTheSky · 10/04/2021 11:24

Ah thanks. Would he still go to prison if he showed it was all down to Tommy though? I thought Steve had promised to help him if he brought them Tommy? Mind you Steve didn’t seem to know what he was doing half the time, I’d forgotten what an arrogant little muppet he was for such an AC12 newbie!

Also

  1. With the fake evidence story do we assume deepak actually did grass gates up and that’s why ac12 were searching the drain? So he was a decent guy and got in shit for it? Or was it some clever ploy by Kate to prove her loyalty (but I don’t know how she’d have known about the drain option, and surely she wouldn’t want to cost another copper their place in the team)
SingToTheSky · 10/04/2021 11:27

I know why he had to get Steve to say it was ITLOD I just thought with Tommy in prison he’d get out of the stuff he’d actually done.

But ohhh hang on as I was typing that I just realised - is it that Tommy’s men on the outside would just frame him for Jackie’s murder anyway? But then that was all on the recording anyway because Kate and Steve heard it Confused so surely he wouldn’t be done for that.

Right for now I shall stop overthinking and get back to s2. Already distracted by the loveliness that is Mark Bonnar

Netaporter · 10/04/2021 11:31

@SingToTheSky

Have you watched Mark Bonnar in Guilty? He’s so good in that.

SingToTheSky · 10/04/2021 12:27

It’s next on my list net :o I thought he was amazing in Unforgotten, and apple tree yard among others

Speaking of Unforgotten it just totally threw me that Dryden was in the car with (his pr person?) someone I recognised - Fiona Grayson from the latest series 😂

MatildaMainly · 10/04/2021 13:01

Shrine of Duty also has social media, I follow their Twitter feed and I use this lineofduty.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Location I've got the tab open all the time for cross referencing Grin

SingToTheSky · 10/04/2021 13:23

Anyone know what piano music Denton is playing in her flat? Def series 2 episode 2 but I think she first plays it episode 1. Can’t Shazam it as I’m watching on my phone! Maybe it’s just made up stuff as Google hasn’t helped either, nor subtitles which sometimes have music names...

GoofyIsACow · 10/04/2021 14:49

That website may claim hours of my life! Thank you! 😀
Chrysanthemum5 · 10/04/2021 17:12

@MatildaMainly yes the 'livestock' phrase made me feel sick and I can't rewatch series 5 because of it so sometimes I'm a bit lost as to what's happening with series 6

JaneJeffer · 10/04/2021 18:59

I think it's all an act.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 10/04/2021 19:03

I think he's a pawn for OCG connected bent coppers.
