@Mooncatcher I just remember seeing a small L shaped kitchen with a little table. He put the kettle on and threw a tea bag into a mug on the table. I think it was meant to look a bit dismal.

It isn't in this series. He'd turned down dinner with Gill Bigeloe and gone home to a lonely evening.

TitsInAbsentia · 08/04/2021 22:14

@SingToTheSky

Been catching up on the threads and I’m done. I give up. I’m just going to have to accept that I NEED to rewatch series 1-5. I wonder how much I can fit in before Sunday night?! 😬
Just get on with it...once you get started you'll soon be sucking diesel....
SingToTheSky · 08/04/2021 22:43

I’d forgotten what a wee baby face Steve has in s1 😳😱

Furries · 09/04/2021 01:43

I’m ok with the whole “artistic license” in dramas. There have been a few re my old industry that don’t match up in places, but I ignore them. For me, the whole point of a drama is to be gripped and get away from day-to-day life.i want to be immersed in something a bit “out there” to take me away from what is known!

The only thing that bugs me, not necessarily with this show, but with many dramas and films over the years is - geography! The scenes where someone is at one location in London and then, after a 5 minute walk/drive/bike ride they are somewhere else. That gets me huffing! And that’s the extent of my detective skills, so be grateful I’m not a detective 🤣

I can't watch any drama to do with schools (they never show either the tedium of the paperwork or the good bits with the children) and my husband can't watch anything to do with hospitals ("That x-ray is upside down"/ "if that was really his scan he'd be dead" etc.) That really only leaves Police dramas.
stevematekatemate · 09/04/2021 08:07
@SchadenfreudePersonified Lyndsey was tragic, wasn’t she? Obviously lonely, never tried to make herself likeable, needed the money for her mum so an easy scapegoat. It was awful when nobody attended her funeral. She got so much horrible abuse and still tried to do the right thing in the end, in a roundabout way.

Keeley Hawes absolutely smashed that role, she was incredible.
She was brilliant. Season 2 and 3 are so far my favourites.

MatildaMainly · 09/04/2021 08:18

Ted an apology.

@MoonCatcher @AuntieStella and everyone else I might have mislead.

Sorry I’ve been binge watching and got to the end of series 4. I woke up realising that in series 5, which I’ve still to re-watch, Ted is in the hotel with the broken toilet and it’s the dodgy property deal saga and Gill visits him there too.

So I’m wrong, we haven’t seen him in a flat since. I got my timeline twisted with the rewatch, sorry.

I can watch legal dramas (I'm a solicitor), but I just have to accept that - in the main - they're an utter nonsense! My job is often just admin; it's very rarely exciting in any way. Exasperating more than exciting, I'd say (I'm in litigation)! My real life would definitely make for shit TV.

I can forgive TV drama writers though; they need to write about something after all!

I love legal dramas but it winds me up that so often people say they want "their brief". I worked as a legal secretary and then as a paralegal for over 30 years in total and never once heard refer to their solicitor or barrister as "brief"
AuntieStella · 09/04/2021 11:36

@MatildaMainly - I just thought I'd blinked and missed a bit! I saw all the earlier series on catch up, and tend to watch in bed. Which means I fall asleep and miss bits, even if I think I've gone back far enough to recap.

YouKnobhead · 09/04/2021 12:10

My work involves business planning, relationship building, selling and negotiating. The Apprentice gets me raging and it's not even made up, it's just their stupidity!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/04/2021 13:03

Have we seen Ted's flat yet? Can't recall it.
(and more than a little hurt I wasn't invited to the housewarming, obviously)

When you'd bought him that lovely cheeseplant, too, Moon

SingToTheSky · 09/04/2021 13:23

@SophieB100

When Steph was in her kitchen talking to Steve, there was a letter H in tile pattern behind her - just one tile. Did anyone else spot this? I can't do a screen shot. Plain tiles, then one had a dark H pattern. Another red herring?
Ha, I noticed that too :o made me laugh (but also slightly wonder...)

I thought a cheese plant was appropriate, given that its full of holes 😉

Are you watching the current series and old series at the same time? No wonder you're confused! 😁
SingToTheSky · 09/04/2021 18:19

@itsalifetimesworkfella

It's 2050

LOD Series 29

Ted is a cyborg, programmed to say Letter of the Law every 15 minutes

Kate had no one left to say 'sorry boss' to so retired

Steve became the new Chief in Midsommer Murders series 105 as he craved neat endings

The letter H has been removed from the alphabet by parliament

I’m still catching up on the thread (sorry boss, it won’t happen again boss) but just had to acknowledge the genius of this post 😂 love it
TotalBastardBollocks · 09/04/2021 19:36

Anyone else think maybe Jo came through the foster system (hence wine glass thrown at mums picture and she has said she 'has no family'). Im pretty sure Dot was in foster system, and Ryan Pilkinton went into care before joining the force? Is this how the OCG is recruiting and controlling them?

YouKnobhead · 09/04/2021 19:52

I have no idea, but three of the boys involved in the armed robbery were also from a care home (didn't see the files on the fourth).

Ulysses · 09/04/2021 20:00

Lisa McQueen from last season possibly as well. I’ve been listening to the Shrine of Duty recaps of the past series and it struck me how many involved were in the care system.

Ulysses · 09/04/2021 20:01

Danny Waldron’s another one too.

iklboo · 09/04/2021 20:12

@TotalBastardBollocks - oooh good theory! We know about the abuse in care homes, so maybe that's how they've been recruited 'we'll protect you / stop them / get them. All you need to do for us is X, Y,Z'.

Ulysses · 09/04/2021 20:18

Isn’t that the angle Gail Vella was investigating as well. It wasn’t just about OCG but the abuse being covered up by the police as well. It’s mentioned in her interview with the PCC.

YouKnobhead · 09/04/2021 20:52

I really like the idea - which I think I heard on Shrine of Duty but apologies if it was a pp here, (I can't keep up!) - that Ted may have been Gail Vella's source. Getting no where through official routes, he turns to the media to weed out corruption. It could explain why he ditched the laptop.

I mean, I don't think it's what happened anymore than any other idea, but I like it!

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 09/04/2021 21:06

Ted being Gail Vella’s source is a brilliant idea, it explains all his shady behaviour.

MayIDestroyYou · 09/04/2021 21:14

Interesting ...

Some absolving explanation for his shady behaviour would be a relief.
