@SchadenfreudePersonified Lyndsey was tragic, wasn’t she? Obviously lonely, never tried to make herself likeable, needed the money for her mum so an easy scapegoat. It was awful when nobody attended her funeral. She got so much horrible abuse and still tried to do the right thing in the end, in a roundabout way.

Keeley Hawes absolutely smashed that role, she was incredible.
Absolutely

Her horrible boss had strung her along for years with their affair, bullied her into aborting their child - all she wanted to do was be a good polis and have a happy family life, but she was gaslit and isolated all the way through.

They even re-homed her sodding CAT for heaven's sake!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2021 13:24

All the time you think Hk is bent but I don’t think she was at the end

She did sleep with steve tho denied in court

She got killed due to the list

But nothing else seemed to happen after that

the armed officers outside the interview room when Dot's eventual unmasking takes place and the Urgent Exit message sets off the escape with their help.

I have come to this straight from the (Channel 4) Circle thread. It's a very confusing day ...

TitsInAbsentia · 08/04/2021 13:31

Nana Dot is going to be the next series baddie!!

TitsInAbsentia · 08/04/2021 13:36

@Ulysses

The Shrine of Duty podcast is bringing me so much joy. I’m going to go over the back catalogue this week as I only started listening to it this series.

I’m missing having chats in the office about all the theories for TV shows so it’s a bit of a substitute for that I suppose.

I'm doing the backlog listen too, and on the obsessed podcast (Craig Parkinson is very funny). It's kept me company on my walks for the last few weeks - I think you could be right that it's a great sub for the office chatter - as is this thread you lovely lot of non-bent bastards Easter Smile
MatildaMainly · 08/04/2021 13:38

Sorry @MayIDestroyYou Grin I thought you were going to enlighten me. It's a bug bear.

Forget who said we don't know Chloe's full name, but we do, her last name's Bishop, but in response to internet theories, Den of Geek says

Keep an eye out for DC Chloe Bishop playing the piano, mentioning a sister named Natalie, or letting slip that her dad used to be a copper. That’s when we’ll know

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 08/04/2021 15:39

Keeley Hawes was brilliant - playing against type for her and her performance was so nuanced, it implied an entire back story that was never spoken about.

I've got an AC12 Urgent Exit Required mug Grin.

Didn't Dot think the armed police were protection for AC12 as much as anything?

AgentCooper · 08/04/2021 16:12

@SchadenfreudePersonified yes, her story was so sad. You get the feeling that she hadn’t always been such a prickly character who rubbed people up the wrong way, rather that she had just been so fucked over and lost so much along the way. In the end all she had left was doing her job to the letter and she wasn’t afraid to use that to get at people who wanted to undermine her. I remember being so mad at her when she exposed Ted’s crappy finances but then cheering when she punched that prick of a caseworker in the balls and filmed him sexually harassing her in the halfway house.

MatildaMainly · 08/04/2021 16:29

Lindsay Denton was a brilliant character and Keeley Hawes played her so well.

@IstandwithJackieWeaver I'm tying myself in knots thinking about the armed police, when I've already said I let so many things pass as dramatic licence Confused

The AC12 office doesn't usually get armed protection and Dot was supposed to be 'one of their own' specifically one of their own team.
Dot didn't raise any comment so he must've known they were part of the urgent exit plan, but why did everyone else fail to question their presence?

I've got that and Kate's superhuman abilities in the chase that followed, fixed in my mind. I need to let them go and concentrate on this series. Having said that, I'm having the same issue with Jo's ability to spot and immediately risk assess the van outside the bookies right at the start. I know it's been questioned, but really? really? Hmm

Can you tell I can't wait for Sunday? and that I now urgently need that very mug too Grin

banano · 08/04/2021 16:35

Lindsay Denton was the best character in LOD (IMO) and has to be one of the best characters in TV ever. Keeley Hawes was incredible in that role. It felt like such a shock when she was killed as she had survived so much already.

Am I the only one that feels like at least 50% of the police force is somehow in the pay of / controlled by the OCG? There seem to be more bent than straight coppers sometimes, especially in the later episodes of each series where a random firearms officer/ supporting cast member will suddenly turn out to be an OCG assassin!

banano · 08/04/2021 16:39

In fact when you think about it, in real life there will be a number of rival OCGs in any major city. So if the bent cops in LOD are all linked to just one OCG (the H/ Tommy Hunter gang) then does that mean there are a whole other set of bent cops linked to a different OCG (maybe the biker gang we met last series)?

I’m getting carried away now. Must keep reminding self it is just fiction!

JaneJeffer · 08/04/2021 16:39

She was the best. The scene outside the courthouse where she told Steve she forgave him was so good.

Bloodypunkrockers · 08/04/2021 16:40

Yes. She was a fantastically complex character and I've said before, one of Keeley Hawes' best roles and performances

IntermittentParps · 08/04/2021 19:05

Jo's flat is deeply stylish - French blue walls and white table lamps. Verrry nice!

I find it rather impersonal, like a 'stylish' but cookie-cutter hotel room, and have been wondering if that's deliberate. Is she being put up there by OCG or (if she's deep under cover) the police high-ups?
I also think it's oppressive and cold, all that blue and no soft surfaces or textures. She wears a lot of blue as well. Maybe she's/it's meant to signify her coldness and/or her alienation?

RunningAlong · 08/04/2021 19:29

Gradually getting hooked on Line of Duty and after episode 3 I had the random thought that Terry Boyle could actually be pulling a Verbal Kint as in The Usual Suspects and he's actually H.

SingToTheSky · 08/04/2021 19:48

Been catching up on the threads and I’m done. I give up. I’m just going to have to accept that I NEED to rewatch series 1-5. I wonder how much I can fit in before Sunday night?! 😬

I agree, it doesn't look like she really lives there.
OnTheHillNotOverIt · 08/04/2021 19:52

Keeley Hawes was amazing. My MIL said that she often plays similar parts so I told her to watch KH in LID and she was blown away.
Amazing

That would be the best twist ever!
poorbuthappy · 08/04/2021 21:12

@SingToTheSky I asked this question earlier in the thread as I had some time off this week.
Apparently it's 31.5 hours worth....

@SingToTheSky
Mother of God, give me strength.
Stop faffing around, just watch the bloody things, we don't have time to waste wee girl. We need to catch bent coppers.

SingToTheSky · 08/04/2021 21:29

Thanks poor! I got to that bit in the thread since posting and I’m definitely going to start in the morning :o

SingToTheSky · 08/04/2021 21:30

Sophie 🤣

I’m on it boss

MoonCatcher · 08/04/2021 21:46

@MatildaMainly

Sorry thread moved on while I was typing all that.

@AuntieStella Ted's got an apartment now. Nowhere near as nice as Jo's though.

I'm another one who regrets what happened to Maneet. I really liked her and thought her character could've been given so much more.

Have we seen Ted's flat yet? Can't recall it. (and more than a little hurt I wasn't invited to the housewarming, obviously)
