@Adultingin2021 ahh I see, no I think it’s perfectly normal in your situation to spot things like that! It’s really interesting thank you!

HelpMeTony · 07/04/2021 20:08

Absolutely loved this week’s Shrine of Duty (and Dot’s Obsessed podcast with the lovely Sanjeev) - have namechanged in honour of my favourite part of their podcasts Grin

Piggywaspushed · 07/04/2021 20:22

The original 'fictional town' was Birmingham in terms of filming and also had bits of Nottingham thrown in in spirit (eg Vicky's accent). I'd definitely expect a more representative police force, especially since it is fictional!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/04/2021 22:45

@ChocBeforeCock

Thank you for the responses about why Ted wears uniform. I was just musing about it because Buckells is also a superintendent and doesn’t. But I agree it is likely to be a part of the character - I can’t imagine Ted rocking up in a suit!
I’m a lawyer and I know how totally unrealistic portrayals can be annoying, but then I also realise how utterly tedious courtrooms actually are so they have to use a fair bit of dramatic licence!

Damn you, choc!

I refuse to believe that "Judge John Deed" doesn't depict the legal profession EXACTLY as it is. You'll be telling us that "Rumpole of the Bailey" isn't a documentary next!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/04/2021 22:54

No idea how I mismanaged a quote when I didn't;t want one at all.

Confused
LaganinaBubble · 07/04/2021 23:38

So looking forward to episode 4 this week!
Listened to Shrine of Duty podcast today - loving the theories, can't wait to see what comes true 😀

HesterLee · 08/04/2021 00:03

I noticed at the end that when Jo was bolting her front door, she dropped the top bolt so it wasn't actually in place. It would seem unusual for it just to be left if it was a mistake. She wasn't looking up at the bolt, so didn't notice.

MoonCatcher · 08/04/2021 08:26

I'm enjoying your insights @Adultingin2021 - fire away!

AuntieStella · 08/04/2021 08:32

I think Ted wears a uniform because he's living in ever more primitive hotel rooms, and has inadequate laundry. He just sponges down the jacket, washes the shirts in the sink and uses a lot of Old Spice (or perhaps Tabac?)

Ulysses · 08/04/2021 08:38

That’s quite the woeful image of Poor Ted, I’m hoping after all this time he’s managed to get back on the property ladder.

None of the three have got happy and prosperous home lives have they.

Ulysses · 08/04/2021 08:41

The Shrine of Duty podcast is bringing me so much joy. I’m going to go over the back catalogue this week as I only started listening to it this series.

I’m missing having chats in the office about all the theories for TV shows so it’s a bit of a substitute for that I suppose.

ChocBeforeCock · 08/04/2021 09:14

Good spot!

Possibly then the bolts aren’t out there by her because she is scared for her own safety, maybe it is someone else’s flat and that someone else put them there? Gail Vella?

Shrine of Duty made the point that it’s unlikely the police searched that flat, or they’d have had questions, so she probably has a different property which they searched. So the flat isn’t hers perhaps.

schadenfreude my sincerest apologies Grin

Re BAME women characters being bent and/or killed off, I was so disappointed at what they did with Maneet. I loved her, she was heroic coming in with her baby to help and she knew that grassing up Dot was the right thing to do. I suppose she was never bent for personal gain (trying to save her cousin) and she did try to do the right thing in the end but I hated that she got killed off. I would have loved to see her rise up through the ranks with two wee ones in tow.

iklboo · 08/04/2021 11:07

I agree if she is corrupt she is under extreme duress. But how does that fit with the fancy flat? Presumably if the OCG can blackmail you to work for them, they don’t also bribe you. So the OCG wouldn’t explain her money in that case.

Hmmm yes. Remember the other week when she parked next to the van with the beardy guy in? He drove off, there was something under the van she got out to pick up. Then had a huge hysterical screaming, crying & bashing the inside of her car. Very intriguing.

longwayoff · 08/04/2021 11:27

The flats not so special is it? She must be on a reasonable salary, no dependents. Expensive locks though!

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 08/04/2021 11:36

Tatleen wasn’t bent or killed off. She was great, but the actress got a better job and moved on. And “Jolly” Rogerson and Amanda the techie are doing well for themselves.

MayIDestroyYou · 08/04/2021 11:43

Wasn't it a burner phone? Or am I mis-remembering?

I felt the same - my heart ached for poor Maneet.

And for Lyndsey. It upsets me that the ones who are at heart decent humans beings who have made a mis-step seem to get a horrible comeuppance, while ethereal bar-stewards sail off into the sunset unscathed.

iklboo · 08/04/2021 11:58

Yes I think it could have been. Or the stuff to frame Farida?

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 08/04/2021 12:02

It was a burner phone. She put on purple gloves before touching it. The reason she was screaming in her car was because the OCG haven't finished with her yet.

MatildaMainly · 08/04/2021 12:15

I really enjoy reading everyone's insights and theories.

Most of the time I'm able to explain things away to myself, like eg Ted wearing uniform to assert his rank and distinguish himself in his department, Kate being fire arms trained and able to go undercover at a moment's notice without seeming to have any ongoing practise and checks on her skills etc etc.

This series, like everyone else, I'm absolutely intrigued by the apartment Jo's seen in. She either kept it on while living at Farida's because it's definItely(sic) implied they lived together full time and have now properly split up, or it's not hers or, I have no idea. It's very well equipped and furnished, high end and yet it does have the personal photograph and those bolts. I'm confused and slightly obsessed. Obviously the bolts are only any use when the apartment's occupied, so they're not to protect from break-ins or to keep someone else inside (as suggested on Shrine of Duty)

Going back to past series, series 3, one thing that's always bugged me, which I have to put down to a plot device, is the armed officers outside the interview room when Dot's eventual unmasking takes place and the Urgent Exit message sets off the escape with their help. Those armed officers are guarding the entrance to the building alongside the revolving doors, presumably as standard daily procedure, although I don't think we usually see them. They then accompany Dot and his rep up in the lift and stand guard outside the interview room. I haven't seen any reference as to why, except that Ted and the team now suspect Dot of being highly dangerous and don't realise one is an inside man. Other dangerous suspects haven't been accompanied like that, but Dot doesn't raise any issue with it. Surely he should've questioned it, despite secretly knowing one of them at least was on his side?

Or have I missed something?

MatildaMainly · 08/04/2021 12:20

Sorry thread moved on while I was typing all that.

@AuntieStella Ted's got an apartment now. Nowhere near as nice as Jo's though.

I'm another one who regrets what happened to Maneet. I really liked her and thought her character could've been given so much more.

AgentCooper · 08/04/2021 12:30

@SchadenfreudePersonified Lyndsey was tragic, wasn’t she? Obviously lonely, never tried to make herself likeable, needed the money for her mum so an easy scapegoat. It was awful when nobody attended her funeral. She got so much horrible abuse and still tried to do the right thing in the end, in a roundabout way.

Keeley Hawes absolutely smashed that role, she was incredible.

Completely agree. Am re watching season 2 now and she is just brilliant.

Btw is your username a Blacklist reference? I’m nearly as obsessed with that show as with Line of Duty (I said almost!)

AgentCooper · 08/04/2021 12:58

@ChocBeforeCock it’s a Twin Peaks reference, but still an officer of the law Wink
