The 'acting' is truly awful. Especially Sam and Angelahhhh. They project and move like they're on stage?!

AutumnalLeaves38 · 08/04/2021 07:13

Julian Assange as farmer-narcotrafficker doesn't add much to the credibility, either.

EveWasReframed · 08/04/2021 07:40

That speech that Farmer Wetherspoons gave about finding whats-her-face 'under the sod' in the cave was one of the most cringe-making bits of dialogue I've ever heard.

I think everyone being drunk is the best way to explain the script, including all the police and all the other characters. Every time something doesn't make sense or sounds really crap, just think, 'Oh they must be pissed' and it seems less awful.

Samcro · 08/04/2021 07:44

so glad someone noticed the phone in 1997. wasn't it all flip phones back then?
And Angela ((( repeat)))

TheVolturi · 08/04/2021 07:47

@samcro no! They were still at the huge brick stage in 1997! Flip phones were a few years later.

so true. thinking back we had those basic big Nokia ones.

EveWasReframed · 08/04/2021 08:12

I didn't get my first mobile phone till 2002, for work. It had a stubby aerial thing!

ThatsShitTryHarder · 08/04/2021 08:29

I thought it was a torch?

I don’t know why I’m persevering with this. I’ve watched all of it so far and I don’t feel I can fall at the last hurdle now.

the80sweregreat · 08/04/2021 08:47

It's the last one tonight, Angela!

the80sweregreat · 08/04/2021 08:51

What made me laugh ( amongst other things ) was they said that Angela ' was a woman in her 30s' ! She looks closer to 40?
How old is young Rebecca in 1997 with her mobile phone?

ScienceSensibility · 08/04/2021 09:01

I had a flip phone in 1997! A Motorola Pebl. Loved that design.

Anyway, back to ‘Intruder’.

What an absolute load of crap! Woeful acting, stilted script, rubbish chronology. How did it make it to air?

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2021 09:04

The actress who plays Angela!Angela! is 40.

I love the way we are getting tangled up in the phone as if that's the biggest plothole!

I don't get why they didn't set it in Ireland and just let everyone do their accents. There are so many dodgy 'English' accents. Is it something to do with funding? There was a another (crap but not as crap) series recently set in Ireland and pretending not to be and The Drowning was filmed there I think, too : but not with a load of Irish actors pretending not to be.

If anyone can think of the name of the other really shitty series I'd be so grateful : involved big house, maybe a dead baby , a pub, lots of 'family secrets' , last scene in a graveyard. Possibly a well known lead actor?

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2021 09:07

As you were! It was The Deceived.

the80sweregreat · 08/04/2021 09:10

There was a drama with Russell Tovey and Charlotte Rampling about a family who didn't like their new mums boyfriend and he fell off a balcony ? That was ok , but I don't think it was on 5?

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2021 09:10

It also didn't pretend not to be in Ireland.

Has anyone noticed the Irish numberplates covered over with yellow stuff! The budget must have been tiny!

the80sweregreat · 08/04/2021 09:13

Must be cheaper to film in Ireland ?
The drama with Jill Halfpenny was also set in Ireland. I thought that was bad, but it was pretty good compared to this :)

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2021 09:18

A quick look at writer and cast is interesting. The writer/director worked with Sally Lindsay on Cold Call (so he was obviously called in as a favour). Farmer Wetherspoons is an Irish soap actor and the hapless Sam has only ever worked in comedy (with the aforementioned director again!)

The writer .director's main writing credits are for comedy and comedy/horror. Stick to what you know, dear.

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2021 09:20

There definitely used to be EU (sigh) tax breaks for filming in Ireland (Braveheart was filmed there!) and it was dirt cheap compared to, say, Cornwall, and less traffic and people. But this could just be set in Ireland??

the80sweregreat · 08/04/2021 09:21

The young lad isn't too bad. He carries his bag of stash around very well. The farmer is menacing at least.
Sally Lindsay looks like she would rather be doing something else.

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2021 09:33

He carries his bag of stash around very well Grin

My favourite bit was the mad economics lecture.

the80sweregreat · 08/04/2021 10:48

What was the answer to the question about the economic writer? Was it Adam Smith?
He didn't say the answer !

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2021 13:17

Omg. She killed Angela. Wow. She is a tough cookie

I can’t get the farmer. He tells copper /investigator that the hubby will crack as Rebecca was tough and didn’t cry in caves as a youngster

Then he speaks to her on phone

Is he playing both sides

So now they have both killed 😱😱

I liked that

Sure there will be be another series

Tho tbh I like most dramas

Blondes is easily pleased 😂

The drama with Charlotte Rampling was set up for another series as the husband survived.
I hope so as I liked that and I also like Russell Tovey who was in 'the sister ' drama last October. That one had a silly ending though.

stumbledin · 08/04/2021 14:19

Have started to think this is the Irish thinking lets take the piss out of the Brits (or the english).

It has to be a comedy doesn't it?
