Apparently, according to Ye Olde Google, tobacco onions are deep fried onions which have been soaked in buttermilk then coated in flour, cayenne pepper and possibly paprika as well before cooking. Who knew? Not me.

Oh so not a million miles from how jonty cooked fried onions (and I do too) could eat them by the handful.
