I think the other man's dad contacted him saying he thought he was his dad as he'd had a relationship with his mum.

Makes it look too easy and glossed over the ethical issues, in my opinion.

DNA is just one genealogical tool. The way it was presented - and I get that they don't want to bore viewers by going into the details - was "do a DNA test and your relatives will be revealed". Doesn't work like that.

Also the guy who found cousins in Texas - I wonder what percentage of people find that their family just don't want to know. It's not all happy endings.

DNA does not lie.

If they were half siblings, they'd share 25% of DNA. They shared none. They are not related.

Confirmation bias is a strong motivator - the prospective brother was actively looking for ways there were resemblances to his Dad. You look like him, walk like him, stand like him. Never mind the thousands of ways you don't look like him, the brain just seeks out the matches.

It was very glossed over wasn't it?
I bet a lot of people do not want to be found out that they had an affair or whatever.

Shave the beards off the beardy guys and they wouldn't really look that alike, I don't think. It was the way they spoke that made them seem more alike and same kind of swagger/waddle when they walked.

I'll not be watching it again. I thought it was quite badly done. The "dna for dummies" explanation and drawing the most basic family tree to illustrate non-points.

I love long lost family. It has more heart.

I wish they went into more detail about the family - why did that man think he was beardys Dad? Who was John? I want to know now!
