Anyone watching? Them 2 defo look like brothers!

OP posts:
Candleabra · 02/03/2021 22:19

I didn't like this programme at all. It completely glossed over the moral aspects and the science.
I also hated that the people got their results but obviously Stacey Dooley knew them already because ....ta da! there she is with photos etc. Really bad TV.

the80sweregreat · 02/03/2021 22:20

Maybe the two guys were vaguely related or something? It seemed odd they were so alike!
Long lost cousins twice removed ? ..
Or were we just taken in by having similar features and beards? It was strange.

PrincessTuna · 02/03/2021 22:22

I'm pleased that beautiful baby is ok. Bloody showing pensive consultants before showing them getting good news. Cocks.

Does the nhs not offer tests for Huntingdon sufferers' kids?

AlessandroVasectomi · 02/03/2021 22:23

I thought it was odd. The DNA explanation probably was beyond us mere plebs so it was glossed over, but there was so much repetition of the basic storylines. The programme could have been half the length.

Yeah the sad faces and grimaces were awful before the results. I definitely won't be watching again.
PrincessTuna · 02/03/2021 22:28

I know I'm a cow, but the man with a beard saying that the other man with a beard would always be a brother to him despite not being a brother..and then introducing him to his family after crazy gold. WTF?

I mean how shit IS his actual sister?

SwedishEdith · 02/03/2021 22:34

I felt sorry for the poor guy with the GI dad.
"Do you want to speak to your cousins?"
"Sure, when?"
"Now" Shock.

I'd need to think about what I might want to ask. Choose a better top.

Candleabra · 02/03/2021 22:35

That did seem a bit desperate! I want to know why he believed the was the other man's son, and what rest of the story is. Just so weird they believed everything before they'd had the DNA test.

Candleabra · 02/03/2021 22:37

I also didn't like the immediate follow up, photos, phone call (wtf?). You're right that was awful.

CovidKingfisher · 02/03/2021 22:38

Yes it was bad. Won't bother again.

Winniewonka · 02/03/2021 22:54

I wonder why Brendan's father felt compelled to say Richard was his son after fifty odd years? Possibly because Richard's parents had passed away but by making this programme, it's still announcing in public that his Mum had two affairs and that was her own private business. Maybe his non biological father who brought him up knew anyway.
It all felt as if a programme had been made around people who were emotionally vulnerable.

Anystarinthesky · 02/03/2021 22:58

I thought it was really bad introducing the possible brothers before the results were confirmed.

I also don't agree with the medical diagnosis being given out on a programme such as this. Poor taste.

Coffeeandcocopops · 02/03/2021 23:01

I was reading about a couple who used a sperm donor. They were not going to tell the child. I immediately thought to myself that will come back and haunt you when your child is older.

Angelica789 · 02/03/2021 23:05

It was odd that his Mum had clearly had 2 affairs at the same time. The 2 brothers already knew about each other although they had never met. Brendan’s dad had been in touch with Richard and then shared photos with him.

Angelica789 · 02/03/2021 23:07

Agree.

This has all moved on really quickly. Only 8 years ago I knew someone who’d used a donor and believed her children would never be able to trace him. As most donors create multiple families it will actually be very easy to find dna matches online.

GloomyWaters · 02/03/2021 23:08

Really enjoyed this tonight...nothing was mentioned about Bill's Dad though

Morph2lcfc · 02/03/2021 23:15

Which one was bill?

GloomyWaters · 02/03/2021 23:17

Guy from Leic who met his 2 cousins on Zoom

Morph2lcfc · 02/03/2021 23:20

They showed a picture of his dad I thought, after they’d showed pic of his brother, didn’t say much about him though, maybe the brothers family never met tge dad either

RaspberryCoulis · 02/03/2021 23:21

They said the dad, the one who was the American GI, had died. As had his older son, Bill's half brother.

The two Texan ladies were cousins and probably the closest rellies they could come up with.

theliverpoolone · 02/03/2021 23:24

I know! She was sitting there with beardy 2, all expectant and supportive, then whipped out photos of the potential real dad when beardy 1 was devastated over the result. I'd have been well peed off with her if I was them.

RaspberryCoulis · 02/03/2021 23:36

This programme couldn't decide whether it wanted to be a serious science / genetics programme (in which case Stacey was totally the wrong presenter) or a tacky wannabe Long Lost Family tear-fest.

Walkingtheplank · 02/03/2021 23:42

Re having the child tested, parents cannot opt to have a child tested either on NHS or privately, and not just in UK. I believe it is thought that they should choose as an adult to be tested especially as c.80% of adults choose not to be tested.

I wont be watching this programme again . Far too many stories, no depth and frankly Stacey Dooley is no Nicky or Davina (a comment I may have bored my DH with throughout the programme).

Let's hope Long Lost Family is back soon.

Walkingtheplank · 03/03/2021 00:12

I wasnt clear - a child cant be tested for Huntingdons.

LadyEloise · 03/03/2021 00:28

If they knew who bearded guy's paternal grandmother was and there were five sons in the family, John being his supposed father surely there were cousins and uncles he could potentially meet ?
