I thought JN's character exuded malevolence all the way through episode three. I can't believe Tori so quickly trusted him (hence the double bluff hunch), particularly after he'd tried to arrest her earlier!

PintPot · 09/03/2021 11:43

I'm working on the basis that some of the plot points are so clunky - LOOK AT THIS NECKLACE, Tori trusting Tom immediately, constant shifty peering through blinds at people walking through car parks, personal information disclosed at the drop of a hat, THE NECKLACE LOOK AT IT, hiding a murder weapon in a hole in a barn instead of at the bottom of a loch - that they can only be elaborate double or triple bluffs.

It's not very enjoyable.

DanielODonkey · 09/03/2021 12:07

We watched in Sunday, shouting out every time someone came on screen "THEY ARE GOLIATH!"

Thing is, it a not even fun ridiculous now. It's just ridiculous and the only reason I'm going to watch the last episode is because there isn't much else on tv to watch now we've completed Netflix and Disney+

Chicchicchicchiclana · 09/03/2021 13:16

"darkly funny"! erm no I don't think so. Unless they mean how much fun you can have spotting the shift between JM's 2 acting faces (which are HardAsNails and LookingShifty btw).

FoonySpucker · 09/03/2021 13:29

Glad it's not just me then Grin

We don't often commit to watching a series as we aren't in the UK and don't have any sort of "catch up" options to binge things, but we thought we would give this one a go. 6pm curfew for us so it's not like we are going to be anywhere else!

I feel sort of obliged to stick it out now having endured 3 episodes.

CatOnAHotTinHoof · 09/03/2021 14:15

@absolutetelynotfabulous
"Only one episode to go and no sign yet of Susan Lynch (not as Tom's wife but another copper?)."

What's the odds Susan Lynch does turn out to be Toms wife but has had facial reconstruction surgery to 'disappear' :)

hansgrueber · 09/03/2021 15:18

They need AC-12 in to investigate Twomey!

I said the same thing, the crane on the postcard looks just like H !
For what it's worth my latest theory is that Emma, Tom's wife, was Goliath and the was spirited away by the security services and Tom has realised that. He, Tom, has been very casual in giving strangers information about his daughter's life, one thing that's drummed into officers serving in sensitive areas is to be very wary about strangers.

FreezerBird · 10/03/2021 14:00

@Kinraddie

It really was a bit ridiculous last night - they narrowed it down to three 'still-serving" police officers, and two of them were allowed to keep investigating each other! Surely another team would have been drafted in to take over. And why did Twomey not realise there would be planted evidence in his caravan, when he received a photo of said caravan in the mail!
That was ridiculous but it also made me chuckle. Can they really go around arresting colleagues like that? What if Twomey had arrested him right back? Or did Tom arrest Twomey and then say "no returns'?

The other bit that made me laugh was when Adam Corry's sister marched into Twomey's office bringing 'all the protestants' and the copper whose name I forget said "I think he'd have preferred the petrol bombs".

I like Dinger. Which on my usual form means he's in it up to his neck and is the baddest baddie of all.

youngestisapsycho · 10/03/2021 15:37

I'm so confused! So did Tom kill the 3 men in the grave? Why did he kill Adam?

Chicchicchicchiclana · 10/03/2021 18:41

"That was ridiculous but it also made me chuckle. Can they really go around arresting colleagues like that? What if Twomey had arrested him right back? Or did Tom arrest Twomey and then say "no returns'?"

That really made me laugh out loud! But I did think similar.

Yeah, Dinger is up to something.

purpleme12 · 11/03/2021 00:06

I get very confused by this programme about who everyone is and their names and how they're related to the story and what's happened.

Me too. I can't quite work out how there are so few people in the frame and yet I've got absolutely no idea what's going on. I think it's all the staring.

The only series worse for dialogue-free meaningful staring is Hinterland.

Eve · 11/03/2021 10:42

.. as an ex Queens Uni student ... the 1 point that bugs me is when he met his daughter coming out of lectures.

Where they were pictured is not the building/ area medical students have lectures in! Obviously they picked the most photogenic building.. medical students are in a 60s tower block!

hallamoo · 12/03/2021 19:24

Dinger is Tyres from Spaced!

ImAncient · 13/03/2021 06:35

Oh goody a thread. Finally watched episode 3 last night.

I’m so glad it’s not just me who JN is dreadful in this. He’s giving off seriously creepy vibes & the doctor & his colleagues haven’t sussed that??

If this had been a 6 parter I wouldn’t have bothered & given up by now. Now Unforgotten I’m cross is only 6 episodes as it’s so brilliant- completely different kettle of fish.

I hope we aren’t going to be subjected to another badlands.

ImAncient · 13/03/2021 06:35

Bloodlands- blooming autocorrect.

KatherineJaneway · 13/03/2021 08:33

I found the third episode dragged. My guess: Twomey thinks Tom is Goliath, Tom thinks it's Twomey and all along it's Dinger.

ImAncient · 13/03/2021 08:37

I think it’s Tom. Have thought that from the start. Mind you could be because JN is such a bad actor!

2Rebecca · 13/03/2021 09:28

It must be JN otherwise why kill the old bloke? The 3rd episode was very silly with them all investigating each other and the doctor not sussing JN as an obvious creep and deciding to tell him everything. He's not even pretending to be charming and likeable

c75kp0r · 13/03/2021 09:58

I reckon when they sent Birdy to get the files for the officers from 1998, he found four officers and suppressed the fourth one

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/03/2021 10:01

A case of misdirection?

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/03/2021 12:37

Last one tonight

CatOnAHotTinHoof · 14/03/2021 12:54

Goliath odds
------
Brannick wife evens
Dinger 2/1
A/N other 3/1
Brannick 4/1
Twomey 10/1
Doctor lady 20/1

CongealedCrags · 14/03/2021 15:11

I smirked at the "you can smell the doillies" comment about the Corry sister - with Grandpa Joe and the Derry Girls in mind. Perhaps he should have mentioned traybakes as well.
