@Kinraddie

It really was a bit ridiculous last night - they narrowed it down to three 'still-serving" police officers, and two of them were allowed to keep investigating each other! Surely another team would have been drafted in to take over. And why did Twomey not realise there would be planted evidence in his caravan, when he received a photo of said caravan in the mail!
I presume they will find his burner phone and maybe he thought that's what the person who sent the photo wanted the police to find? Surely the postcard was hardly damning evidence.

They need AC-12 in to investigate Twomey!

Also thought it was ridiculous that a doctor could stage a kidnapping so professionally without getting caught.

JaneJeffer · 08/03/2021 17:11

@DuncinToffee

Or the IRA killed the priest and Harkin when they found out someone was leaking information and Tom came along the freshly dugged grave and changed his plan of just dunping the bodies of his wife and Cory in the water and then made up Goliath?
But she wasn't in the grave.

Surely the police could see that the postcard in the caravan has setup written all over it (not literally but that would be hilarious).

DuncinToffee · 08/03/2021 17:27

But she wasn't in the grave.

Oh yes, I forgot to add that bit of my theory. I think he put her body in the water but better tied up than Adam Corry.
I don't really know how the priest ties in with my theory, unless he was a mistaken identity.

Levirandal · 08/03/2021 17:36

I watched all three episodes today and couldn’t work out why Tom shot Adam Corry. It seems Goliath is all about protecting the peace process as people from both sides went missing. I’m not sure his wife is dead though.

DuncinToffee · 08/03/2021 17:45

Levirandal I think Tom killed Corry because he realised that it was Tom who killed his brother. Corry had evidence, the owl necklace with the E engraving.

CatOnAHotTinHoof · 08/03/2021 18:22

I suspect Dinger must have some involvement, otherwise why include him in the list of 3 suspects who were involved in original and current investigations.

NoisyBrain · 08/03/2021 19:24

I woke up early this morning and the first thought that popped into my head was I bet Tom is covering for his wife, who is Goliath. Hence the 'extreme constipation' face he keeps pulling, which I think is actually meant to be 'tortured and conflicted'.

OliviaBensonsEyebrow · 08/03/2021 19:36

I agree. I think there is more to Dinger than we know yet.
RaraRachael · 08/03/2021 19:48

the extreme constipated face Grin
I normally don't like watching anything with James Nesbit in it, as he's always playing James Nesbit. I thought it might be different this time as he's actually playing a Northern Irish character, but it isn't sadly,

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 08/03/2021 20:37

Tory going go see the necklace on his daughter as didn't they have matching ones and put 2 & 2 together
Wouldn't surprise me if the wife is still alive and ran as she knew what he had done as was mentioned in one episode how she would know how to disappear or something like that

cheapskatemum · 08/03/2021 21:54

I used to think JN looking doe eyed and soppy was bad, but JN looking mean extremely constipated is making me seriously consider whether I can continue watching Bloodlands.

TheSpottedZebra · 08/03/2021 22:46

Has JN not slept with anyone yet, 3 episodes in?
That must mean that... JN isn't a producer on this one.

Gne doc isn't stupid, so maybe she has withheld a key piece of info from the box that she handed over? Maybe the box is part of the plot to unmask JN ?

TheSpottedZebra · 08/03/2021 22:46

Gne is an odd type for 'The'.

TheSpottedZebra · 08/03/2021 22:48

Agree that the doc does look like her from Derry Girls.
But she also looks very very like Emma Roberts.

BRB2021 · 08/03/2021 22:56

Gne is an odd type for 'The'.
Oh I thought you meant she was a Gynae doctor - thought I had missed a vital part in the plot!
TheSpottedZebra · 08/03/2021 23:04

That's why it was such an odd typo- it had context!

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 09/03/2021 00:38

@BenoneBeauty

Is this all going to be a case of jealous husband killing his wife and her lover, and then killing a few others to make it look sectarian related? Knowing the GFA was coming, he knew that the investigation would be stopped?
Dang ... Scrolled all the way to there to stun everyone with my brilliant theory. Only for someone to get there before me!

I too suspect the whole Goliath / GFA thing is a smokescreen and it was all about the missing wife and her lover. She escaped, the lover was made to look like one of several victims to a political killing. It's very Miss Marple. (Also I doubt the show would have got the green light if it really was about NI politics.)

(As no-one else seems to have mentioned it, Tori Somebody is played by Lisa Dwan - who really truly is Somebody in the theatre world - globally admired for her Beckett renditions. So she was always going to be important in the plot.)

But tbh I'm not really enjoying this. I long with all my heart for more Shetland - this isn't that. (Though I'm enjoying the mainly battered and un-beautiful looking cast.)

Will have to watch the unravelling. How many more episodes?

ReleaseTheCracken · 09/03/2021 05:05

Can someone explain how they narrowed it down to 3 officers?
I went back to rewatch and read the ep 3 link above but still don't get it. Something that Jackie said about broadcasting the name that Derry Grandaddy was using to the whole force....

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2021 07:32

The 3 officers were all police 20yrs ago and still are now

Think that’s how I understood it

We have been watching this and I am as baffled as everyone else.

Caught a bit of a trailer for the final episode last night and it referred to the series as "darkly funny". Is it just me - I have found it relentlessly grim and scowly. No humour at all, and I am usually pretty good at finding humour in dark places.

LadyEloise · 09/03/2021 08:51

"..... darkly funny..."
The only slightly funny character is Birdy, dh and I laugh at his gormlessness.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 09/03/2021 08:51

Lack of humour has been a problem.

But I surprised myself by finding something very funny last night (Ep 3). If only I could remember what it was ...

JollyGreenGiantess · 09/03/2021 09:58

@JaneJeffer

Birdy is hilarious.

We still don't know where the wife is.

When the doctor sees the necklace on the daughter she is going to put two and two together.

I just realised Birdy is Jock in the Young Offenders! I never twigged. The hair! The convincing-to-my-southern-ears Norn Iron accent!
absolutetelynotfabulous · 09/03/2021 10:29

Birdy is funny. But for me the programme is not fitting the brief of "darkly humorous".

Only one episode to go and no sign yet of Susan Lynch (not as Tom's wife but another copper?).

LadyEloise · 09/03/2021 11:17

Apparently as another copper, absolutelynotfabulous
