Know nothing about this but have found some C5 original dramas quite good!

For anyone who like me is still trying to find something actually worth watching.

@AtlasPine

When the divers were looking for Tom’s body, back when he died, how could they miss the boat, a mere throw from the shore where he went missing?
^^ This a thousand times.
norwegianwoodpecker · 05/02/2021 07:06

So Tim dynevor writes emmerdale? Thanks why I don't watch if. Load of pish

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 05/02/2021 07:39

Oh, Jason who now sleeps with the fishes, were you never taught the invaluable life skill of whipping off pyjama bottoms and inflating them into a DIY buoyancy aid?

Bespoke tailored suit trousers possibly a little unwieldy, but it surely would've been worth a shot?

As they were looking for him off the main picnic area and he actually died from another beach through the woods (though not sure how the flowers landed up there, let's say tides in that day)
butterpuffed · 05/02/2021 08:12

I don't want to get that four hours of my life back as it was hilarious.

Three scenes should be up for BAFTAs..

Tom/Daniel hacking away at a hedge in the background for absolutely no reason at all

The actor brandishing the chainsaw to save his mate

Jason trying to catch up with the boat by swimming behind it in his suit and shoes

And a special award for Jodie's coat as everyone will be wearing them

diddl · 05/02/2021 08:19

" How it ever got commissioned is a complete mystery."

Perhaps that would be a more interesting progtamme?

I think that I would have just formed a friendship (or more!) with RPJ to be able to see the son!

Or a business deal-architect/landscape gardeners??!!

EggysMom · 05/02/2021 08:45

There were adverts in the advert breaks? I wouldn't know, I was too busy turning to see what my fellow Mumsnetters had made of the preceding ten minutes Grin Oh how I hope that either JIll Ha'penny or Sally Dynevor are on MN and will read this.

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2021 08:45

Mr Big knew it was Ade that had smashed up his already trashed room as one of the teenage / car wash boys round the miner strike fire told him ( he had seen him go in with a big baseball bat)
The mark being on his face in the exact same spot was a plot too far ( amongst many) I guess that Jason Orange thought she would let him get on the boat with her, so he wasn't worried he was still in his shoes and a suit.
I'm amazed that they had any mobile signal out there , so if his mobile hadn't worked that day then Tom might have lived :( plus mobiles 9 years ago were not as good as they are now.

I also imagine she bought a forged DBS certificate because her driving license was in her old name and she didn't have time to sort that out? Just a thought?
Many many plot holes and some funny moments but I didn't hate it ; it had some action and nice scenery and this thread was funny!
The wardrobe debt should be sacked off.

UnityUnited · 05/02/2021 09:07

I don’t understand why they dressed her in such awful clothes. The jeans and boots combo were not great. I was also mesmerised by the tasseled shirt.

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2021 09:21

They always run so fast in these dramas. I only have to go out for a half hour walk and come back needing a nice cup of tea and a sit down for five! I'd be like ' you run on , I'll take my chances !'
I'm surprised that Granny and Grandad didn't sell the center parcs villa. After such a tragedy you wouldn't want to keep it or the boat really?
Jason O had the keys so they still used it! Maybe her ex used to take Alice there!

Hueandcry · 05/02/2021 09:39

They did sell it.......to Jason

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2021 10:14

@Hueandcry

They did sell it.......to Jason
Ahh! Missed that bit. Makes sense now.
MythSpentYouth · 05/02/2021 11:08

Once she was busted with the fake passport, surely she told the police where she got it? And once they had the address and directions, ("turn R at the brazier and in through the open door, straight on past the open door where they weigh out Kgs of Class A Controlled substances...") Leather coat would have been arrested and Ade could have been spared a dash through the back alleys.

We would have lost chainsaw moment though.

Why, when she knew she could put him out of his misery immediately, did Jodi make Mark tell her how his wife died? Why was it so important for her to know at that moment?

And when he said 'she couldn't take the guilt' I thought he was going to explain how Dan got the scar.

hansgrueber · 05/02/2021 11:09

Mr Dynevor is planning a follow-up, the tartan woman meets the Duke of Hamilton's wife in Freshco.

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 05/02/2021 11:41

Why did no one notice Jason coming back to the picnic area with wet clothes?

How was Tom’s body never found if they dredged the lake?

Why did Jodie fake the DBS certificate if there was nothing lurking in her past?

Why did she not face any repercussions for 1) the DBS forgery 2) the passport forgery 3) having two members of her immediate family drown in the same lake? (Surely that would have sparked some questions??)

Why did Jason, after hiding this heinous thing he did for 10 years, spill all after one prompt from his mother?

Why did Jodie stand around listening to him drag out his tale instead of searching for Daniel?

Why would RPJ continue to have anything to do with this mad woman who had kidnapped his son and nearly got him killed, clonked him over the head and got him banged up on remand?

Why will I never get back that four hours?

So. Many. Questions.

Heads-up for those wanting (decent) crime drama/psychological thriller recommendations:

YouTube has adaptation of 'The Sculptress' by Minette Walters
(1996, two-parter) with Pauline Quirke as lead.

"...psychological thriller about convicted murderer Olive Martin, nicknamed 'the sculptress' following the gruesome killings of her mother and sister. Journalist Rosalind Leigh, writing a book of the macabre story, meets Olive and becomes convinced of her innocence, a view which draws her into a dangerous investigation".
(BBC preview)

I really enjoyed it all those years ago!

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2021 11:42

I bet the writers liked the chain saw massacre horror films and decided he could ' shoe horn' it into this! The assistant was quick off the mark there too once he realized Ade was in trouble.
Did Jodie let him stay with her or send him back to his digs? Maybe he got together with the lady business partner and they opened up their own garden business!

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2021 11:44

I love Minnette Walters books. Such a talented writer.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 05/02/2021 11:44

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2021 11:47

I wonder if Mr Big pays his business rates and income taxes etc for the car wash ? 😀
A lot of laundering going on there no doubt.
The fire pit made me laugh though and the dodgy board for the prices!

Hueandcry · 05/02/2021 12:06

JH was on tv this morning. Didn't see it all but she mentioned 'the coat'

KaptainKaveman · 05/02/2021 12:11

Did anyone else recognise Jason as one of Danny's friends in Line of Duty series 3? he was one of the abused boys from Sandsview Care Home. He was really good in that. He wasn't good in this though. The Mother was the worst though, Jodie and Jason's ma? what a terrible performance Shock, it was like she was reading her lines off a fag packet just out of view of the camera. It's hard to believe someone got actually paid money to turn in a performance so wooden. I can feel the splinters now, as Dennis Pennis used to say Grin

Guardsman18 · 05/02/2021 12:31

I'm so glad I watched it because this thread is so funny!

Agree it was absolute shite.

chestnutshell · 05/02/2021 12:43

Was it ever explained why Jodie couldn’t get a dbs?

JaimeLeeCurtains · 05/02/2021 12:46

I think the DBS bollocks was just about her wanting to speed it up. Totally implausible though. All schools initiate their own checks.

Good thread though 👍 thank you!
