@Elderflower14

I didn't understand GBs random comments about lots of snow??? Confused
He's a skier with a lot of free time on his hands now that he's been booted off. The slopes are apparently covered in lovely snow right now. But no-one is allowed to travel to go skiing so it's making him sad. Any other year, he'd probably have been a little pleased to go out early on as he'd head straight to the alps and get some skiing in.
Elderflower14 · 01/02/2021 13:39

I know he is a skier. It was just such a random comment and it fell very flat!

I think he purposely waffled on about the snow to stop himself saying something about the skate off decision and the judges.

CharityDingle · 01/02/2021 21:44

What was that all about, Banjo not clapping as Graham was skating away at the end.
I'm clueless about skating, but I really felt for Graham. He was visibly disappointed.

DM Link... Apparently Bell had the screaming Hab Dabs when he was evicted!

Oops!! maybe he'd had one previously and that was why!
Honeyroar · 02/02/2021 09:40

It is the Daily Mail though.. I wouldn’t put it past itv to release tweak that because they we’re getting so much criticism. Having said that I once worked for a top level sportsman and he got like that if competition’s didn’t go as well as he’d wanted. They’re ultra competitive people!

kittykarate · 02/02/2021 09:43

I finally got round to watching this last night. My thoughts that while Graham was a better skater than Rebekah in general, both routines were very two-footed as pointed out by Chris. There was less time holding one footed edges, doing 3 turns and neat little footwork touches compared to week 1. He did do more lifts - but they again rely on a solid two footed platform, so there needed to be more edge work when he wasn't lifting. His hands were spatula like so it all looked more lumpen.

I don't think it was fair to have rounded on his current partner like that though, it's always going to be tough to step in and be confident pushing someone to do more tricky stuff.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 02/02/2021 10:04

Although he shouldn't have sworn at Karina, it sounded like he was desperate to stay in until Yebin could come back. I'd be frustrated too, being knocked out by somebody I was definitely better than, and having all the weirdness with the judges.

That's a nasty leak to make to the papers.

Honeyroar · 02/02/2021 20:29

With hindsight it’s quite a funny article. Saying it was the least sportsmanlike behaviour ever seen on DOI. They obviously don’t watch any of the competition- there’s nothing sportsmanlike about the whole thing, it’s a fix.

We’ve had JB singing, T&D will be performing next week. Just Plucky left.

I can’t wait to see what he does with the Bell article via the medium of dance.

Tbf, I can imagine Graham and Karina may not have really put a lot of effort into designing a great skate off skate at this point in the competition. In a fair competition he was too good to have been in a skate off for at least the next few weeks. As for 3-turns, etc, have any of the skaters this year done them at this point? Amy and Fay have both done one footed spins but on ice, especially for a gymnast and someone who looks like she's done ballet at some point, they are much easier than a 3-turn. I can imagine that Bell would find 1 foot skating tougher as skiing is 2 footed.

Either Graham was extremely unpleasant to work with and they wanted him gone. Which is certainly what they are trying to hint at by releasing the story about him having a tantrum. Or something else weird is going on, possible related to what happened with Yebin? Maybe she didn't want to come back to the competition? I honestly don't know how the female pros sign up to this show. Nothing would make me willing to let a man who isn't incredibly sure footed on skates lift me. The male skaters are obviously at risk of injury too, as a woman going badly into a lift or shifting her weight badly in the middle of one could also cause an injury. But the women really do risk catastrophic injury.

kittykarate · 03/02/2021 14:30

I'm not sure - in the first week he skated Graham seemed to do of 'froggy' mohawks (rather than dance ones with heel to instep) and some steps to forwards. While he was on 2 feet a lot, he did do some holding an edge while gliding.

You'd think they as a cohort should be 3-turn capable, mainly as that is way simpler (ok, as long as it's forwards-outside) than the chocktaw in the judges challenge step sequence (from the Kilian dance apparently - it's way above my dance level, I'm more novice foxtrot/Fiesta Tango)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/02/2021 14:45

Do they still (it's been a long time since I've watched) have an element they have to include each week?

kittykarate · 03/02/2021 15:01

Polka

There was last week - it was a short step sequence, (Choktaw, backwards cross over, step to forwards) followed by a dance spin that needed to be included. Next week.. who knows? I mean it feels like they improvise the rules weekly.

Do you really think a Choctaw is harder than a 3-turn? I definitely found one footed transitions harder to learn than any two footed or stepped transition. Just psychologically switching edges on one foot can feel terrifying, especially if it’s a waltz turn. And then to check it neatly while skating backwards on foot.

In fact I’m not sure how often you even see skaters on DoI skating backwards solo on one foot.

RootyT00t · 03/02/2021 18:20

Weirdly enough though @alittleprivacy, I would say more male pros and female celebs have been badly injured.

Elderflower14 · 03/02/2021 22:23

I see Brianne(She who romances the majority of her ice partners) and Kevin from last year have had a little girl...Olivia...
