@Skybooks

Rufus hound has now left the show after 2 positive covid tests, being replaced with Matt Richardson.
Ooh he doesn't seem happy.

I like Matt.

Alittleprivacy : Do you really think a Choctaw is harder than a 3-turn? I definitely found one footed transitions harder to learn than any two footed or stepped transition. Just psychologically switching edges on one foot can feel terrifying, especially if it’s a waltz turn. And then to check it neatly while skating backwards on foot.

I personally find them ALL horrific. As I have bad hip turnout though, I find switching feet and switching edges ends up heading off in the wrong direction more often than I'd hope.

You're correct that you don't see them doing backwards edges very much. I think that's because they're not 'showy' enough for the performance judges who have no bloody idea that half the magic of ice dance is making the difficult and mind bending, appear simple and smooth. A good example of this is 'Swing change of edge going forwards' Looks like nothing tricky when done well, but it's murder as it relies on you really being able to manipulate your weight on edges.

Nothing signifies this for me like a loop turn. I thought, 'that looks fairly straightforward,' but I'm nowhere near working out the edge changes. If I skate around and around, I can decrease my loops and somewhere in there, there might be a decent loop, but I'm nowhere near being able to confidently skate a loop. And when/if I do learn it, no non-skater would be particularly impressed.

I do understand having 'performance' judges though because in a lot of ways they represent what the average person at home is thinking. I only really started watching DoI two years ago at the point when I took up skating. At that point I was seriously impressed with someone even doing a little two-footed 180 jump and wouldn't even have registered a lovely transition or three turn.

😁
SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 04/02/2021 20:51

I’d heard that was the judges challenge this week RootyT00t

Pretending to get a vaccination in a cheek whilst doing a double toe loop.

Is it not?

Surely he wouldn't fake covid?
iklboo · 04/02/2021 21:05

Surely he wouldn't fake covid?

Better PR than 'I tweeted loads of offensive bollocks and got fired' I suppose.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 04/02/2021 21:13

I am certain he wouldn’t fake Covid.

RootyT00t · 04/02/2021 21:45

No, but his statement was very odd.

It appeared they told him he could stay in and then told him he couldn't, if we take him at his word.

MyFavouriteIsWhoeverlsQuietest · 05/02/2021 06:38

I just watched that video. Whatever the rights and wrongs of his own conduct, and whether ITV ought to have let him go like they did the youtuber Jack Maynard in IACGMOOOH (although they also kept Roman as he apologised for his historic tweets in advance having already deleted them), Rufus Hound is not wrong about how scummy the press are for hounding (pardon the pun) his in-laws and his estranged wife. Doorstepping in a pandemic ffs

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 05/02/2021 10:34

The door stepping is a disgrace.

I found the comments awful. There is no argument anywhere there I’m sure.

But, like other programmes, I wouldn’t be surprised that there is a fear of the brand being tarnished. And that reasons may be given for exit which may sail further from the actual reason. Hence my comment above.

I’m not saying the reason given isn’t valid but I’m wondering it it was convenient.

I’m probably not explaining myself well. As usual 😟

Honeyroar · 05/02/2021 11:53

Which video??

Mrsbrownsgargoyle · 05/02/2021 15:49

Surely if this is an issue for the programme, they would check everyone's social media before signing them up, as many employers do?

RootyT00t · 05/02/2021 16:34

The tweets are historic so they wouldn't need to.

But I have to agree I don't understand why the likes of Jack were thrown out and Rufus wasn't.

I'm not watching any more. That decision last week - do they think we're stupid?

Maybe they will bring Graham, back as Billie is out of the competition now due to concussion!

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 07/02/2021 01:16

Och you are kidding!

It’s almost as though WAGatha has been writing this script...

10 little skater people ...
