Moving to a new house should have been a dream come true for Alice (keesley hawks) and Harry (Jason Merrells) and their daughter Charlotte

But turns into a nightmare when Alice finds Harry at the bottom of the stairs dead

And turns out harry has secrets ........

@JaneJeffer

The bannister didn't go with the decor at all Grin
I think that was the point.
JaneJeffer · 25/01/2021 13:32

I know!

Wingedharpy · 25/01/2021 13:37

The bannister was hilarious.

I'm no Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen but even I could see that was so wrong - especially the twirly spindles.😂😂😂

stumbledin · 25/01/2021 14:38

I'm sticking with it as a comedy. But was in fact bought up short when at the end the announcer said anyone needing bereavement support could contact ... And I thought how would you sit throught that if recently bereaved.

Also maybe need to remember the title of the show - Finding Alice.

I assuming it is like other dramas where a woman who happily lived a comfortable life without asking where or how the money her husband gives her comes from. And lives in his world, not firends of her own and then suddenly one day, no husband, no money, no idea of how things work.

So the show will be about Alice finding herself.

Clawdy · 25/01/2021 22:20

Really annoyed - the tv critic in the Observer on Sunday gave away the storyline of the last episode! As if everyone has binge watched it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/01/2021 11:07

Oh no @Clawdy how annoying for you x

I think it's awful. The first episode had promise but it's not hitting the right balance - not funny enough and/or not dramatic enough. Some of the story elements are just stupid. A woman of her age with a 16 year old daughter had no independent access to money or bank accounts, she has no friends, she's got an unskilled part-time job etc etc. The bereavement group is just telegraphed in the role it's supposed to play and that bloke at the morgue does everything on his own without following procedures but, again, it's not funny.

JiminyLeeCricket · 26/01/2021 18:35

I noticed that Keeley Hawes is under the credits as 'Executive Producer' and 'Created By' (I think). So some sort of project for her to branch out a bit, and wanting that alluring 'creative control'?

I really hope it gets better.

eggandonion · 27/01/2021 10:47

It's not as good as Mum. But I enjoy seeing all the actors from other places.
I don't know if I would have recognised it as comedy if I hadn't been told.
It's interesting that they weren't married , property ownership is often a theme in threads about wills inheritance etc.

southeastdweller · 27/01/2021 10:50

Struggling with this. There's no emotional stakes and tonally it's uneven.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2021 14:05

I’m liking it - esp the black humour and jokes

but maybe as I’ve lost a husband

I see it from the other side

I think for me it capture some of that bleak humour that get our family through a bereavement and the giddy madness that took over and led each of us, in our own way, to do some things that were really quite insane now I look back.

Gemma2019 · 27/01/2021 17:27

Oh gosh @Blondeshavemorefun so sorry I had completely forgotten about your DH. I'm sure that was around the time my DD2 was born and she's 10 now. I thought about you for years afterwards. I'm so glad you are still around and have a lovely family now, although I guess the pain never goes away.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2021 19:50

Bless you @Gemma2019. Yes ten yrs this April

You have A good memory

The daughter looks really like that actress in Normal People.
I was convinced it was her at first

louise4745 · 27/01/2021 22:20

Only 6 episodes? I'm on the last one if it is.

purpleme12 · 27/01/2021 22:23

I'm enjoying it
Surprised there's so many negative comments
And I don't think there's supposed to be 'emotional stakes' here I don't think it's that type of programme

louise4745 · 27/01/2021 22:29

Im enjoying it too. It's easy to follow which is a massive bonus lol

TorringtonDean · 28/01/2021 13:30

I’m having big problems with this - pedantic but real points. First it is extremely irritating that Keeley is acting quite so unhinged, has no bank account of her own, no proper job, no clue about anything. Just so horribly stereotyped.

BUT also there are things that don’t make sense. She is told she can’t get access to accounts as no probate - fair enough - but then how are the parents selling the house without probate? And how do they get the house without a will? Or if the house was just gifted to them beforehand why do they have an inheritance tax bill? And if they do then they will have to pay that before getting probate so won’t be able to sell the house. Might sound picky but I have been through the death of a relative and these are the usual processes you have to go through.

AND nobody goes to the morgue three times. Usually you don’t see the deceased until a visit at the undertaker’s. I can’t imagine the bereavement group would ever be held at the morgue. The whole thing is full of holes and irritating.

LIZS · 28/01/2021 13:33

Gifts attract iht if giver dies within 7 years.

TorringtonDean · 28/01/2021 14:05

True but wouldn’t they then need some sort of probate to prove they had paid before selling - the usual chicken and egg problem?

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/01/2021 14:14

I think he was silly not to have a basic will

And why give house to parents

If Harry and Alice weren’t married then he should have put the house in her name

Then he debters wouldn’t have been able to get it

TorringtonDean · 28/01/2021 14:16

But she had the business. Most of it doesn’t make sense. He seems pretty shitty. She should save her tears.
