That's right as well as being a buffy/angel/charmed fan, i love stargate too. What can i say I am a cult tv fan?

I love stargate but never get to watch it as it is on at the wrong time (bath/bed/storytime for DD) . Used to watch it on Wednesday mornings on Channel 4 when I was on maternity leave. My excuse was that I was breastfeeding

yingers74 · 26/10/2004 14:30

oh no, we catch it on sky one and we pack our dd off to bed before it starts! stargate atlantis is now on too! it is pretty good.

Yes, dh and I love it. We don't have Sky though (if we did we'd never get up from the sofa), so we watch it on Channel 4. I wonder if Stargate Atlantis will be on C4 too? I love/loved Buffy and Angel too, but I find Charmed a bit dreary and samey.

WideWebWitch · 26/10/2004 14:43

Yes, I watch it too and fancy Daniel and Jack my ex dh buys the dvds and lends them to us before they come out in the UK (US versions)

joanneg · 26/10/2004 14:45

Yes Yingers and startgate Atlantis (as well as Buffy/angel/battlestar galactica/carnivale - what a geek I am!)

Love Daniel and Jack!

MrsBigD · 26/10/2004 14:46

Love Stargate and managed to catch episode 1 of SG Atlantis. Used to be an avid watcher, but unfortunately lost touch in the season Daniel bought it due to baby sleeping problems. No better now as we just had addition to the family and unless they start showing it around 2300 I'll miss out again and I don't like just watching the odd one as I prefer watching it from start to finish... hmmm maybe I should get hubby to buy me the last few seasons on DVD so I can watch them if dd and ds don't want to sleep at night and I have to sit up.

Became a bit of a Buffy addict whilst dd was still at the childminder full time and I was home with new born... just can't stand Dr. Phil or the like and Buffy was a good alternative. Well really watched it for Spike

bea · 26/10/2004 15:08

oh yes! dh denies liking it but will always watch it when it is on! saw the odd ep of battlestar galactica, can't quite figure it out, is the blonde one a cylon??

softymom · 26/10/2004 15:24

Was never a huge Stargate fan until dd arrived and I had to sit up all night bf - Channel 4 used to do fantastic sci-fi night (starting at 2am!) on Tuesday: Monkey, double SG1, Enterprise, Andromeda.

The only trouble was, they showed SG1 out of sequence so one episode would end with a cliff-hanger, then the next one would be totally unrelated...

MrsBigD · 26/10/2004 15:24

if you're talking new battlestar galactica series... yep the blondie is a cylon. The first appearance was in the mini-pilot series but there she gets blown to smithereens, but had implanted herself in Balthars head. She then reappears as a 'flesh and blood' at the very end of the pilot when they show all the human form cylons. Then of course she's brought back for the series. Don't get time to watch it unfortunately as dd doesn't go to bed in time.

coppertop · 26/10/2004 18:36

I love Stargate. The series without Daniel in it was pretty crappy but it seems to have picked up again. I still can't get used to Teal'c having hair though.

WideWebWitch · 26/10/2004 18:38

Nor me. And he didn't answer Jack when he kept asking 'what's with the hair?' [sad git emoticon here]

yingers74 · 26/10/2004 21:37

am watching it now and agree why did he grow hair, it looks wrong!
also have watched carnivale but have given up recently as it is quite a slow builld up and i have no idea what is going on!

I love Stargate too, but don't have Sky One so only get to watch it on C4 My Mum is recording SG Atlantis though so I will get to see it eventually. I love all this stuff - does anyone else here read SFX?

yingers74 · 26/10/2004 22:18

lydiamon, only on and off. am trying to stay away from mags as they are such a rip off.

yingers74 · 26/10/2004 22:41

OP posts:
MrsBigD · 27/10/2004 10:21

sometimes read sfx, but as yingers said... rip-off! ratjer browse the net if I get time.

havent had the chance to see hex yet but pre- and reviews looking good.

Shame Farscape turned so weird

btw stupid question... how do you all find time to watch TV and post so much? I must be doing something wrong! the only time we get to do sci-fi trashing is when dd is at childminder and hubby is taking the day off... did that 2 weeks ago and sat down to watch Starwars IV, V & VI... weird to see all the 'enhancements' and changes as I did originally see the 'undigitalised' version.

joanneg · 27/10/2004 12:31

I love SFX mag - I know that it is expensive but I couldnt do without it (geek alert!)
Mrsbigd - My ds is in bed by 7pm and my dh is studying as well as working at the moment - so I have time in the evenings to watch all my scfi programmes. Ds has a 2 hour nap in the day - hence my posting on here during the day!
I also watch my tv and do other things at the same time! Like when I was watching battlestar on monday I was glass painting at the same time! It is scfi multi-tasking.

Nobody in rl knows what a closet scfi geek I am

logic · 27/10/2004 12:37

I love Stargate too. I have been a huge fan of Richard Dean Anderson since I was 10!
Luckily we have a Tivo. It's my preciousssss....
Without it, I would get to see nothing on television at all. It also means that I can store 120 hours of Thomas the Tank Engine and Pingu. Hooray!

MrsBigD · 27/10/2004 13:00

joannneg - you are blessed indeed. dd doesnt go to bed till 9pm as she wants papa...
and nothing wrong with being a geek... ueber-geek here... love sci-fi and used to work in IT!

logic - hmmm Tivo... sounds good

coppertop · 27/10/2004 13:21

I used to like Farscape too until it turned so strange and unwatchable. Andromeda is usually good for a giggle although Kevin Sorbo is looking very wrinkly these days. The new Enterprise series should be starting in the new year too (fingers crossed!).

I saw most of the Star Treks in my studenty days before children came along. Most of the Sky One Sci-fi tends to be on at 8pm so I usually get to watch it while it's actually on. Dh puts ds1 to bed so I tape the programmes for him but have them as a back-up in case something happens and I miss them.

yingers74 · 27/10/2004 13:26

i used to like farscape too until it went all confusing and i had no idea what was going on though i did think the lead was cute, can't remember the name now! also love enterprise, hubby is also an avid fan of these shows. dd in bed by 7.30 so watching it is not a prob, tivo sounds cool.

OP posts:
MrsBigD · 27/10/2004 14:13

I'm so jealouse of all those who manage to get their kids to bed 'early'! Guess might have to invest into a DVD recorder or simply go to play.com and buy the series so I can watch them back to back on days dd is not around now that sounds tempting!

the farscape lead was Ben Browder - now that's a major geek alert

Not sure what to think of Enterprise... he's simply Sam Beckett!

Am a total trekkie, but will refrain from starting off a debate on what's better... DS9 or TNG... simply don't have the leasure as dd is already screaming for attention and I'll better go and see what she's doing before she's using the walls again as a canvas hahahaha

yingers74 · 27/10/2004 21:21

mrsbigd, my favourite was voyager, one of the reasons my dd is named what she is named is because of voyager - ha now that is surely a geek alert!!! Yes it is hard to see past his sam beckett past. it does get better though!

Sadly I actually subscribe to SFX - I love that anticipation when you hear the postie forcing it through the letter box.....

Due to their reviews I have treated myself to the DVD boxset of Firefly, and I'm going to sit down with some Hobnobs and watch it now. (it better be as good as I've heard it is!)
