I know this probably wouldn’t be a popular suggestion, but the obvious Jack and Vera successors are Tyrone and... Gemma.

In all seriousness, what are they going to do with both Fiz and Tyrone and Chesney and Gemma? Storylines for one young family are limited enough - what are the writers going to do with two couples with SEVEN kids between them?!

Cathy and Brian should become the 21st Century Mavis and Derek. Mainly comedy storylines with the occasional serious plot thrown in for variation.

Please, please PLEASE bring an end to the torture that is Sean. What’s he for?

The show needs more strong female friendships. It was built on them, but since Carla and Michelle there hasn’t really been one. We still get the occasional glimpse of it with Sally and Gail, but they’ve drifted into comedy territory too much. They’re no Rita and Bet, that’s for sure.

They HAVE to find a way to involve the Baileys more with the main cast. There’s no way they’ll get rid of the show’s only black family, so the writers need to give them storylines that involve other characters to make them more of a part of the street. The only big story they’ve had so far is Michael and Grace with the fake baby - and if that had been cut entirely, it wouldn’t have affected any characters outside the family.

Dev has so much comedy value.

It really saddens me that they have let all the female relationships fade away. Gail and Sally used to be good mates. Liz and Eileen. And they’re not replacing them with any of the younger women. Who are Maria’s friends? Who are Sarah’s friends? They don’t have any. They only have interactions that relate to their male partners.

Yep. The women only exist in relation to who the sleep with.

Where are Jenny’s friends while she is going through this crisis? Carla? Not really- she’s just Johnny’s daughter who lives there. Jenny is the landlady of the pub (and bloody good one I think) they all spend all their lunchtimes in. Surely she will have cultivated some friendships. Like you say- bet had Rita.
