It's been easier for BVB to jump around full of beans if he's not been working alongside, like Ranvir and Maisie. Poor Ranvir - I can understand why she had visibly less energy than Jamie.

SoupDragon · 14/12/2020 15:58

She had less energy because she has a less exuberant personality.

Sparklingbrook · 14/12/2020 16:04

Did Ranvir get up at 3 am every morning, do GMB then practice all day?

Sparklingbrook · 14/12/2020 16:06

Answered my own question with a quick Google-

When you think of the huge number of dances there have been on Strictly, there have been surprisingly few falls: Katya last year, Kara Tointon, Pamela Stevenson’s mega stumble.

Didn't Kate Garraway fall over? Also the nice breakfast tv presenter who may also have been called Kate tripped coming down a step a couple of years ago, and Caroline Flack had a bit of a stumble... other than that the only one I remember is Ruth falling on top of Anton

Quartz2208 · 14/12/2020 17:40

I think there possibly is an argument that Jamie Laing has had somewhat of a charmed life where most things work for him (career wise and Candy Kittens etc) and the worst thing that probably has happened to him was not being able to do strictly last year which this year has solved and then so

As such he is a half glass full full of energy type person

AvengingGerbil · 14/12/2020 17:49

Quartz quite. Which makes Shirley putting him through “because he wanted it more” even more infuriating, pandering to his entitlement. Is he a better dancer than Ranvir? I don’t think so. Yes, her Latin was weak, but his ballroom was clearly so bad the producers barely let him do any, just manic running around. That said, I’d still rather he won now than any of the others!

Maireas · 14/12/2020 17:52

I wonder if Shirley just didn't want to say that Ranvir's jive was just terrible.

SoupDragon · 14/12/2020 17:54

Ranvir was weak out of hold in everything wasn't she?

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 14/12/2020 17:59

Today 10:21 Quartz2208

I liked Ranvir but her constant lack of belief in herself did I think give over some negative energy - she was very good in ballroom and hold but the two times she didnt she received low marks.

HRVY has I think pushed himself into doing the biggest range of dances and has show to be capable at all. Maisie suits latin but can still do ballroom.

I loved Bill at the start but he has stalled a lot for me and hasnt improved.

Jamie just has an infectious positive energy about him - I think he will make the final better because of that I think his positivity will have a better vibe than Ranvir negativity

Wholeheartedly agree with all of the above

ShirleyPhallus · 14/12/2020 18:18

It happens every year that the opinion on these threads doesn’t actually translate to the public opinion. I think that’s cos there is a vast difference on who has an opinion vs who can be bothered to vote.

I have quite a strong opinion on who’s good and who isn’t, and who I like, but I’d never actually vote on the show. Ie NVWLS doesn’t do anything for me so I’d never vote for him but clearly people do.

Just like when you speak to people no one ever admits to voting for Brexit but someone must have done!

Maireas · 14/12/2020 18:46

That's surprising. I thought people on here were interested, so assumed they voted.
When they post, the voting is quite varied.

BigBadVoodooHat · 14/12/2020 19:15

@Maireas

I very rarely vote. I’m a huge fan of all forms of dance, and was a keen dancer when I was younger, so I watch SCD because there’s very little in the way of dance on TV (and there’s no live dance to experience in theatres this year).

But it’s been a long time since I really cared who gets through or who wins. Partly because the way the show is going is disappointing, but mostly because ultimately it doesn’t really matter. They all get a career boost and a decent payout from it, and they mostly all work in industries (acting, sports, politics, media) where losing out to someone else is something they’re used to experiencing on a near daily basis. 🤷‍♀️

theliverpoolone · 14/12/2020 19:42

It was interesting on ITT tonight - Gio said something about Ranvir being good at ballroom because of the connection they had, and that she wouldn't know the steps but she didn't need to know them because she just followed his lead while in hold. Which explains why she seemed so uncomfortable out of hold and in the Latin dances, if she was finding it hard to remember the steps.

AllAboutTheMonet · 14/12/2020 19:50

I agree with @FuzzyPuffling, this thread has been snarky

Sniping at someone’s style of posting is unnecessary

Maireas · 14/12/2020 19:55

theliverpoolone I thought that was really interesting, too. Shows what a great dancer Gio is.

xsquared · 14/12/2020 20:11

We don't know for certain what sort of life he's led and he may have had worse things happen to him than missing out on Strictly because of a leg injury.

Better being a half glass full type than being a miserable so and so. I don't think he's more entitled than most celebrities on the show to be honest.

I don't think there's any danger of him winning for those who are upset about Ranvir.

She was elegant and graceful in ballroom but her jive was abysmal. She would have been a worthy underdog type winner.

Quartz2208 · 14/12/2020 20:17

@xsquared I don't think he is entitled I just think he is one of those fortunate people for whom life works for and that shines through I think in his genuine upbeat personality. I actually dont get entitlement from him just a person who believes it will all work out and I really like that. I think he is actually exactly what Strictly 2020 needed

Lifeisnothingwithoutsequins · 14/12/2020 20:27

Who got snarked monet?

Maireas · 14/12/2020 20:34

I was going to ask the same - I missed the snarkiness but I hope the person was pulled up.

ShirleyPhallus · 14/12/2020 21:16

I assume that poster means me. I didn’t “snark”, I said I didn’t think that MEaisie was amusing as a nickname and when that poster said she thought it was true and Maisie was about herself, I said I didn’t always get that poster’s sense of humour so maybe missed something. No snarking. It was even followed up by a smily face to show no snarking!

ShirleyPhallus · 14/12/2020 21:20

Actually I’ve just looked and I said that on page 4, then it was said the thread had got snarky at page 11 so I don’t think that’s what anyone was referring to!

xsquared · 14/12/2020 21:22

I asked about MEaisie, @ShirleyPhallus but I didn't think your post was snarky at all.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/12/2020 00:40

I can't sleep, so thought I'd do some stats for you lot! There are five each of ballroom, Latin and speciality dances, and they've each done nine.

I've gone through each couple's B:L:S ratio, and the dances they didn't do in each discipline.

Lots of interesting stuff, but what I noticed was that nobody in the final has done a waltz. Shock No foxtrots either, but a few have done a foxtrot-based AS.
