I agree that Giovanni’s a great teacher, as is Oti. They bring out the best in their celebs. Janetta has done well with HRVY, Maisie was already an experienced dancer so Gorka’s had it easy. Karen’s done well with the Biscuit ( but I don’t like her regardless).🤣

Skipsurvey · 13/12/2020 20:50

I had a tiny sob that Ranvir didnt get through, although i could not choose

BlueCatRedCat · 13/12/2020 20:51

The BBC would be absolutely buggered if they held a weekly public vote then decided to just ignore the result one week just because they felt like it!

It would be illegal/fraudulent. They make a point of saying that the voting is independently verified. I think there was a vote fixing scandal a few years back, so it's all above board now.

Shame the law can't sort out the inconsistencies of the judges themselves Grin . It's as if the Peter Andre scandal has been forgotten.

BigBadVoodooHat · 13/12/2020 20:51

Thanks Voodoo! Does the public vote axe the weakest couple then proceed to the remaining three doing their showdance followed by another public vote to deteriorate the winner?

That’s the way they’ve done it in the past, but who knows this year?! All bets are off! Grin

I think they all do their showdance now though. It used to be the case that the first boot never got to do theirs, which did seem a bit unfair.

That said, Lisa and Brendan still did the Bacofoil snow dance after they’d been eliminated. And the world is surely a better place because of that. Smile

moglovesmincepies · 13/12/2020 20:52

@BigBadVoodooHat

It wasn't me that said it would have it was just my musing that someone replied to

Oh, I thought you’d posted the bit about ‘They could have said "y'know what, it's been a really crap year let's have you all in the final"’, which was why I asked why they would do that Confused

I realised the ‘right thing’ comment was a reply. That’s why I asked two questions: a) why would they put them both through? & b) why would that be ‘the right thing’ to do?

Just curious on both points. The BBC would be absolutely buggered if they held a weekly public vote then decided to just ignore the result one week just because they felt like it!

I think it every year and I just wondered as Craig seemed so torn like he was about to do like a candid camera you're both still in thing Grin

Are you thinking of the Tom Chambers debacle? Or a voting scandal on a different show?

Maireas · 13/12/2020 20:53

Ranvir did really well and should be proud. Gio was a sweetie - he's really built her confidence. Biscuits has such joy and verve, he's been great to watch! I liked the way they praised their pro partners, hrvy is nice about Janette and I liked the way he thanked everyone for voting for him.
I've enjoyed the series (am I the only one?) and it's certainly helped at a really stressful time.

moglovesmincepies · 13/12/2020 20:58

I've enjoyed it.
I missed a lot of itt this year so might rewatch that jan/feb to cheer up the dark nights Grin

BlueCatRedCat · 13/12/2020 21:01

It was ITV, over various shows, around 2007 I think, Voodoo, shook up the whole industry around telephone vote ins/competitions.

Who could forget Blue Peter’s Boots the cat??
GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 13/12/2020 21:03

Determine the vote, not deteriorate sorry!

I thought the Beeb got in trouble because they used to charge for votes and the money went to Children in Need. Because money was involved it was a different kettle of fish.

Admittedly I've only voted in latter series and only online so I don't really know the ins and outs of the phone vote.

I still find it peculiar that they refuse to release the weekly voting numbers at the end of the series despite being asked to.

MistletoeandMoccasins · 13/12/2020 21:04

They were going to have a 5 couple finale originally, yes
They could never save both without having to refund voters
Most that could have happened would have been no elimination on the week Nic withdrew but then you would have to pad out results show just as a lookback, no elims has only happened in USA as different format
The 5 was a safety blanket in any case if 1-2 had to drop out
They all could have gone in a sliding doors timeline - if Anton had saved Max Maisie would have been a shock boot, if Jamie had gone on his jive last week, if HRVY had had his footwork pulled up more, if Bill had gone on his AT, if Ranvi had gone on her chacha.
They used to have the second learned dance as a final cut - so we missed seeing Pamela's AT, then they cut before the second dance so we missed seeing Sophie's Charleston or Katie's VW. Now we see all three dances for all.
Nicola and Katya will be performing next week. I would have loved to have seen Ranvi and Gio do an unmarked freestyle.
But with 12 dances to get through, show will be long enough.
Judges will surely go with good dances, like they did Gemma, rather than improvable otherwise we would have to sit through some dubious dances.
Couples choice AND a freestyle could be tedious, mind. Although all the highest marked were street for each couple so if they all had a street section as judges choice and banned street from the freestyle, I could cope! I will guess the following though...
Bill couples - paso, judges - QS
Harvey couples - salsa, judges - jive
Jamie couples - samba judges - charleston
Maisie couples - QS, judges - tango
I predict a HRVY win this year but will be voting for Jamie or my favourite freestyle

BenoneBeauty · 13/12/2020 21:06

I really enjoyed watching Ranvir and Gio, so gutted they're out. Not really bothered about any of the rest.

BigBadVoodooHat · 13/12/2020 21:10

Who could forget Blue Peter’s Boots the cat??

How could I have forgotten that?! 🤦🏻‍♀️

MistletoeandMoccasins · 13/12/2020 21:11

Karen and Mark Wright DID do a showdance to Queen- it was pants.
I hope she redeems herself with the Baron.

BigBadVoodooHat · 13/12/2020 21:14

I still find it peculiar that they refuse to release the weekly voting numbers at the end of the series despite being asked to.

Apparently it’s because they fear that high-profile names might be put off from signing up if they knew that potentially at the end of the series it could be public knowledge that they were the least popular participant week after week.

moglovesmincepies · 13/12/2020 21:14

Why did they dress mark weight like he was in a cricket match? Grin

moglovesmincepies · 13/12/2020 21:14

Fgs Wright!

[/quote] I’d forgotten that! Yeah, it was bobbins! Grin

I hope Karen doesn’t go too stupidly frantic with the showdance. Jamie’s got bags of energy and enthusiasm, but he has improved his technique considerably too and it would be good to see that.

whatwedontknow · 13/12/2020 21:24

There’s been too much couples choice for me this year, too much jumping about and mirroring and not enough of what I call proper dancing.

BenoneBeauty · 13/12/2020 21:26

I agree @whatwedontknow - I'm not a fan of couples choice at all and it seems like there has been loads of it this year!

MistletoeandMoccasins · 13/12/2020 21:27

Based on past form, they have done
Gorka - Hollywood-style, bits of AT and Charleston with Alexandra
Janette - N/A but expecting couples choice ii
Karen - See above, jive and lift-based (Jamie can only do his Hercules lift so good luck with the cartwheeling Karen!)
Oti - Contempo fire/rain with Danny Mac, crowd-pleasing medley with Kelvin.

Maisie and Jamie did not do paso. Paso-themed freestyles have included Aljaz and Abbie, Dani and Vincent.
Oti might medley it but avoid tango. Janette might old-school top hat and tails if her AS is not picked. Karen has the hardest task even if Jamie is most improved. Maisie will opt for party latin.

ElspethFlashman · 13/12/2020 21:30

I'm realising that I will miss Gio more than Ranvir, which says it all really.

I really was taken aback at how shit her jive was yesterday. I definitely think that played a part. She just needed to be at a higher standard at this stage.

And I ADORE Not The Heir Himself, BVB. He's like a happy Labrador. And I was quite touched when he father said "I love you, I'm proud of you" and Jamie was like, he never says that. Sad In his own way, I suspect Jamie has been on just as much of a JURNEEEE as Ranvir.

And he's definitely the most improved. The others had a basic talent level already. Nobody expected a damn thing from Jamie, but he's shown he has bags of energy and also a really great attitude. He's been in the DO so much and yet he keeps bouncing back, just as glad and grateful as on Day One.

So yeah, I'm happy he's in the final and I think based on improvement and work ethic, he deserves it. It's not as if he's going to win, so where's the harm?

Maireas · 13/12/2020 21:34

Absolutely, Elspeth, he really has been tremendous fun, but very hard working, resilient and totally committed. He certainly deserves to be in the final.

whatwedontknow · 13/12/2020 21:35

Ive only ever watched strictly for Gio and Oti, but I do usually enjoy many of the other dancers.
