I'm gutted Ranvir is out. I never had a lot of time for her before but strictly has made me really like her. They were so lovely together.

Redcrayons · 13/12/2020 20:27

I’m a bit torn for next week, I really really want Jeanette to win because she’s been amazing this year and she is lovely. Not so much RV.

@TheMadGardener

So gutted to see Ranvir and Gio out. It's spoilt my enjoyment of the series not to see them dance in the final. I don't want to sound churlish but I can't get excited about anyone in the final. Jamie doesn't dance well enough to deserve the win. Bill started off well but hasn't been great lately. I really can't take to Maisie and don't enjoy her dances. NVWLS I'm sure is a nice young man but seems terribly bland. I suppose it would be nice for Janette to get a win. But on the whole I'm not that bothered about the final now. Sad Sad Sad
Agree Gardener.

I mean, I'll watch it - and it's not like I expected Ranvir to win- but I would very much have liked her in the final.

There isn't the same mood at all this year.

ilovebrie8 · 13/12/2020 20:27

I’m happy I like both Bill and Jamie ...I reckon HRVY will win though...😊

NativityDreaming · 13/12/2020 20:29

I am pleased with the final four, can’t wait to see the final.

I think the right decision was made tonight based on that dance off. I don’t think Jamie has a real chance of winning though.

GrouchyKiwi · 13/12/2020 20:29

I think Bill's going to win and Oti will be the first to win two years in a row.

ilovebrie8 · 13/12/2020 20:29

I think if Ranvir had just gone for it and loosened up a bit she may have gone through but she looks strained i thought ...whereas Jamie is a tier and full of oomph !

Delurking to say my sentiments exactly. How on earth can that have been the result? Ranvir scored 2 points more in the Saturday heat, and apparently danced better in their eyes tonight. Jamie, they say, danced better too - but seemed to go through on conviction/exuberance. That's not dancing though, is it? So, 3 points more than Ranvir awarded to Jamie for bouncing about. Not something Ranvir could match in a traditional, emotional waltz. Shirley really is a travesty, it's always about the male celebs with her.

Sorry if I am being a bit dense, but if Nicola hadn't dropped out, does that mean there would have been a 5 couple final? Surely it's only ever been 4, or 3 in years when they have had an early drop out (e.g., the year with Will Young)?

ilovebrie8 · 13/12/2020 20:30

Tryer

Inkanta · 13/12/2020 20:33

I think the Ranvir and Gio could capture the romantic mood of a dance where the others couldn't. That's what I'll miss in the final - romance. Good luck to Jamie - for his courage and determination and bold crotch lift!

moglovesmincepies · 13/12/2020 20:33

Right I'm off to have a complete xhange of scene and watch Billy Connolly in the Arctic.
Here's hoping for a fab final!

moglovesmincepies · 13/12/2020 20:34

Change Blush I've clearly had more brandy than I should Blush

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 13/12/2020 20:34

Maybe BvB will win?!

Does it come down to a public vote in the final? I ought to remember Blush

Do the judges eliminate the 4th place then the public vote for the remaining three couples?

I wonder if Bill's still getting a massive public vote as speculated in the early weeks or whether it's dwindled lately?

BigBadVoodooHat · 13/12/2020 20:34

moglovesmincepies
They could have said "y'know what, it's been a really crap year let's have you all in the final"
That would have been the right thing to do.

Why would they do that? And why would it have been the ‘right thing‘ to do? Confused

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 13/12/2020 20:34

Jamie doesn't dance well enough to deserve the win.

Well, Ranvir certainly doesn't either - that jive was embarrassingly weak for the semi-final.

BigBadVoodooHat · 13/12/2020 20:35

Does it come down to a public vote in the final? I ought to remember

Yes, public vote only in the final. The judges score the dances, but the placing is based on public votes alone.

moglovesmincepies · 13/12/2020 20:36

It wasn't me that said it would have it was just my musing that someone replied to Smile
BigBadVoodooHat · 13/12/2020 20:39

Yes, they allowed for a five-person final as it was statistically likely that at least one couple would have to withdraw, for whatever reason.

That way up to three couples could withdraw and they’d still be able to have a two-person final.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 13/12/2020 20:41

Thanks Voodoo! Does the public vote axe the weakest couple then proceed to the remaining three doing their showdance followed by another public vote to deteriorate the winner?

Sorry for the confusion. I seem to remember in previous years one couple never getting to dance their showdance which seemed really mean seeing as they'd practised all week!

BlueCatRedCat · 13/12/2020 20:43

Cheers for that, BigBadVoodooHat , that makes sense. In another dimension, then, Ranvir may have got through after all.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/12/2020 20:44

Not the right call I don't think. Would rather have seen all but NVWLS stay tbh

BlueCatRedCat · 13/12/2020 20:45

I think that's right, Gareth. Pretty sure Karen has gone though to the final part one in the past (with Mark Wright), but didn't make it through to the final part two with the show dances.

TheMadGardener · 13/12/2020 20:45

@Inkanta

Yes, I agree. It's nice on the show to have a bit of emotion, poignancy, romance. Ranvir and Gio did several dances which were really emotional. With the crew left in the final, all we'll get is a succession of bouncy, energetic, jumpy, shouty dances with no beautiful romantic interludes. None of the couples left have that sort of dance chemistry. By the end of the final we'll be exhausted from all the bouncing, jumping and break-dancing!
xsquared · 13/12/2020 20:47

Neither Bill nor HRVY have been in the dance off so I think either of those two may win.

If Bill wins, then Oti will have won both The Greatest Dancer and Strictly two years in a row.

BigBadVoodooHat · 13/12/2020 20:47

It wasn't me that said it would have it was just my musing that someone replied to

Oh, I thought you’d posted the bit about ‘They could have said "y'know what, it's been a really crap year let's have you all in the final"’, which was why I asked why they would do that Confused

I realised the ‘right thing’ comment was a reply. That’s why I asked two questions: a) why would they put them both through? & b) why would that be ‘the right thing’ to do?

Just curious on both points. The BBC would be absolutely buggered if they held a weekly public vote then decided to just ignore the result one week just because they felt like it!
