GrouchyKiwi · 10/12/2020 19:13

What about Aljaz!? He is more of a contender for RotY than Anton!

moglovesmincepies · 10/12/2020 19:21
@moglovesmincepies oh I wasn’t trying to correct you at all sorry if came across that way. Was just googling to see who was in it!! Then noted that it wasn’t same people throughout. It could well be Aljaz that is behind it still. I must admit last years line up was more appealing to me ...swoon
No offence taken in the slightest Smile

moglovesmincepies · 10/12/2020 19:21

@GrouchyKiwi

What about Aljaz!? He is more of a contender for RotY than Anton!
I wondered whether we could nominate him? Grin And Oti after that AT dress last week!

It looks like the only other pros to have won are Vincent ("you can pose sexily against a door can't you?") and Flavia ("wear the tightest skirt you own").

Not sure I can see Harvey and Janette's rumba as a surefire vote winner.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/12/2020 01:33

Omg Polka 😂

Watching 'The Noughties' with Dev and Clara. It's quite funny - they're profiling 2004. They're both hilarious (imo) - much more so than on Strictly, particularly Dev.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/12/2020 01:34

My last 'omg' was in relation to Vincent and Flavia's bum pics 😂

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/12/2020 02:20

Loved those videos on the previous page!

I didn't remember the female pros wearing anything as skimpy as Aliona there, wow 😂
I loved the costumes of the first 10 or so series. The stunning full-length, full-skirted ballroom frocks, arm hankies, OTT ruffly/feathery samba skirts, Ola's dubious catsuits, cut-out/skin tight Latin dresses. Just brilliant! And tail suits/ black Latin trousers+skin tight/sparkly/see-through top on the blokes 😂
Very evocative of the professional dance scene and Strictly Ballroom 😁

The costumes now just look so tacky and not in a good way.

Moan over!

ppeatfruit · 11/12/2020 09:55

I watch HOG too, it's good. It outdoes the rest of the quizzes by a million miles! I Iiked Anton in it. This week RR seemed rather ill at ease . Karim is ok not the sharpest knife in the box, but sweet. Alex too. The other woman was a mystery to me.

On ITT Oh dear, Jo Varney must do weights or push ups, I don't like muscle bound men, his upper arm was too 'worked' for me. Much prefer his slimmer legs. Was he flirting with Rylan? Grin

Maireas · 11/12/2020 17:00

I suspect Gio flirts with everyone.

awaynboilyurheid · 11/12/2020 17:14

Wow thanks for that video , how good were Aliona and Matt Baker ! Id forgotten that they did this dance, and that outfit!!!
Ive met Flavia, no trace of italian accent she sounded more Essesx/London accent to me, she was my fav female dancer so I was mesmerised by her, she was amazingly beautiful and what a dancer! Vincent had a v strong Italian accent still it was a few years ago. We stayed in the same hotel and had a dance lesson from them.

ikltownofboothlehem · 11/12/2020 18:57

Flavia is stunning. I miss her dancing on SCD.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/12/2020 19:02

I hope Nadiya is back next year with a super ringer-y partner! I think her dancing and choreo are fantastic. I'd like to see her partner someone like Matt Baker or Harry Judd.

Not blown away by HRVY's rumba in training. He doesn't look like he's finishing the moves armchair expert

Bill's dance looking like a lot of legging it around and throwing arms about (Charleston)

Not really excited by Gorka and Maisie's street routine. I bet it'll be the dance to get them 3 10s. I'd prefer to see them do an Argentine tango and a rumba with excellent music.

I wonder if we'll see Mel of Mel&Sue on Strictly. I see she's on the Friday panel. Can't see Sue doing it but it would be fun to have a double act competing against each other Grin

BigBadVoodooHat · 11/12/2020 19:54

Wow thanks for that video , how good were Aliona and Matt Baker !

I know! I just watched this again and they are SO FAR above the standard of anything this year, and in what is a notoriously technically difficult dance.

Plus no stupid theme, no props, no CGI ... Just the actual dance that they’re meant to be doing (not a ‘smooth’ or ‘lite’ approximation of it), with recognisable technique taught by someone who knows what and how to teach.

I miss the old SCD so much Sad

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/12/2020 20:46

Me too Voodoo.

I loved the announcement of which couple was taking to the floor and the caption with their names on screen.
Classy Grin

I don't mind a teeny tiny bit of dry ice/ props/CGI - USED IN MODERATION e.g. to elevate the rubbishiest dancers.
Not every single dance of the night.
I think the prop backdrops are the worst for the time spent messing abaaaaht.

I read it was because the later era of pros lack experience and choreographic expertise in 10-dance unlike the early and mid series pros (lots of Burn the Floor alum arrived).

It's a shame the BBC decided to move away from dancers with that background. I used to enjoy the technique. I wonder if the hours and pay weren't attractive to dancers nearing the end of the competitive circuit. The pros work so much harder than the judges.

I miss the sharper commentary and personalities - good and bad. It's all so generic now Confused

BigBadVoodooHat · 11/12/2020 21:06

I loved the announcement of which couple was taking to the floor and the caption with their names on screen. Classy.

And at the end of the dance they’d curtesy/bow, instead of jumping around shrieking ‘WOO!!!! YOU NAILED!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!’ like a toddler given free rein at the Haribo stash.

Yes, I agree that the influx of BTF alumni was when things started slipping into flash over technique. Then Gilkinson and his SYTYCD posse hastened the decline even more. Sad

I have heard from people in the dance world that SCD isn’t especially highly thought of by the ‘top’ dancers, not least because the fee isn’t actually that great.

The top pros can earn far far more in the East, for example. Apparently they’re mobbed like Hollywood megastars in places like Japan, and the fees for private tuition are very lucrative indeed. They can make MILLIONS working far fewer hours than they do on SCD.

Let me find the link to something pretty Shock I read recently.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/12/2020 21:13

Pffft!

I've got a tighter skirt than that!

(Or possibly a much bigger *rse, but it comes to the same thing . . . Grin)

BigBadVoodooHat · 11/12/2020 21:14

Here we go, I read this earlier this week and was gobsmacked! FIFTEEN MILLION DOLLARS!!!! Shock

“In a city used to the exuberance of its wealthiest inhabitants, Mimi Monica Wong set new standards with her passion for the rumba, samba and cha-cha.
The 120 million Hong Kong dollars, or $15.4 million, she agreed to pay for eight years of Latin dance classes has bemused and entertained many a Hong Kong dinner table.

Wong, who as head of HSBC's Asian private banking business advised the bank's richest customers on how to invest, had become so impassioned with mastering Latin dance that in 2004 she entered the exorbitant deal with two top dance instructors. She even turned over a 62 million Hong Kong dollar advance to Gaynor Fairweather, a world Latin dance champion, and her Italian husband, Mirko Saccani.

But on Wednesday, Wong, recently the butt of a lot of jokes, delivered her own punchline: a court ordered that her money be returned, with interest.”

moglovesmincepies · 11/12/2020 22:05

@BigBadVoodooHat that's madness! Shock

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 12/12/2020 02:10

Wow! I used to delve into the earlier pros' competition backgrounds and it seemed like certain parts of Asia were the place to be - also Aus, NZ and cruise ships!

I know part of the SCD pro package is about exposure and making money from other enterprises e.g. dance schools/private lessons.

I wish they'd got rid of Tess at the end of the Bruce era and brought in some fresh talent to present the show. Someone on the way up the ladder who didn't command a £££ fee. Virtually anyone would've been better than Tess 'robot' Daly. She must know where the bodies are buried.
Ditto the judges - they don't really say anything constructive Grin

No. Not as far as Craig’s concerned anyway.
