Just a head's up that Season 1 is on BBC 4 on iPlayer.

I've only watched from about Season 6 onwards so I'm excited to see how it all started.

Oooh

Brainwashed · 06/12/2020 18:32

Love spiral but thought this was a thread to say when season 8 was on in the uk! I have all the others on dvd.

supercee · 06/12/2020 18:33

Ah sorry @Brainwashed!

Would also love to know when season 8 is out.

All 7 series are there! 76 episodes! I'm going to rewatch it all. December (and beyond) viewing sorted Smile

stumbledin · 08/12/2020 14:34

Thanks for posting this. Would never have realised!

Have started on Series 1 Episode 1 and was immediately struck by how young they all looke! Never realised it started that long ago. Not quite as sophisticated in style as it later became.

And I think I must have missed the first series, so am enthralled already.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 08/12/2020 18:06

I'm watching it as I only discovered Spiral for series five or six, so have lots to catch up on. Laure has an interesting back-catalogue of lovers!

tommika · 08/12/2020 18:22

Engrengage 8 was for broadcast in France during September & October

Hopefully the return of all Spiral episodes to iPlayer means that it’s coming to BBC4 soonish

stumbledin · 08/12/2020 19:02

Now I really am excited. We were all told series 7 was the end, and a documentary was make about the impact of the series on those who were part of it. French and hopes of the BBC showing it have faded.

Now it turns out there is a series 8 ... just hope it doesn't get snapped up by Sky and the French show no loyalty to the BBC because of that event which will be taking place in less than a month. Shock

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 09/12/2020 16:08

Hopefully, it's already been sold to the BBC @stumbledin.

SixStringFanjo · 09/12/2020 17:13

Wow, after a foul up with my Tivo I lost most of series 7 before I could watch it. I have been searching for ages and was even contemplating paying for the missing episodes. No need now.
And as a bonus I never saw the end of series 3, so can fill that in too.
Spiral is the best cop/justice system series on tv.

Perfumista · 13/12/2020 09:46

Just started watching this and am immediately hooked. My previous obsession was Bad Banks (a German drama on Walter Presents). I end up watching subtitled dramas on my own, as it would mean my partner would have to concentrate on the screen at all times!! 75 more episodes to go at, so that is my Christmas holiday viewing sorted

Ghostlyglow · 13/12/2020 13:24

@Perfumista everything we watch now is either on Walter or foreign drama on I-player (luckily DP likes it as much as me) don't know what I'd do without it! S8 of spiral starts in Jan on BBC4, so crack on! Grin

Onthebrink67 · 13/12/2020 13:51

Spiral 8 starts on bbc4 on Saturday 2 January I can’t wait Smile

Perfumista · 13/12/2020 14:05

@Ghostlyglow best had, hadn't I? Need to watch about 4 episodes per day...

stumbledin · 13/12/2020 19:14

Is anyone else rewatching? I asked because I am, and dont remember many of the story lines eg Laure and Pierre, but am finding it quite crude in terms of the filming and the story lines. Too much emphasis on showing violence.

Did it in fact get better with each new series, or was it more to do with us knowing the characters better and better so actions or mistakes had far more meaning.

Not sure if I will get through al 7 before 2nd Jan. Was really worried Brexit would mean the French would let us have series 8!

@stumbledin - I've seen them all and am watching again. It looks, to me, that Series 1 was shot on a low budget. Series 2 onwards looks far better on screen.
Gilou (my favourite) had a change of surname; Lemaire in series 1, Escoffier in series 2+. I wonder why?

POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T YET WATCHED SERIES 1 EPISODE 8
Right at the closing moments, the body in the undergrowth, was it Laborde?

stumbledin · 13/12/2020 23:59

Right at the closing moments, the body in the undergrowth, was it Laborde?

If its the scene I think it is (but do seem to get really confused) I thought it has some sort of plastic over it so it was hard to distinguish features.

Or was that at the start of series 2. Confused

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/12/2020 07:47

@stumbledin yes that was the last scene in the final episode of the first series but I couldn't work out who it was.

rosegoldwatcher · 14/12/2020 08:22
@stumbledin yes that was the last scene in the final episode of the first series but I couldn't work out who it was.
I was hoping that the plastic covered body was Laborde, otherwise there was no closure/justice with that crime...

ageingdisgracefully · 14/12/2020 09:07

@rosegold: thanks for confirming Gilou's name change. I thought I'd imagined it.

Fullofpissandvinegar · 14/12/2020 09:12

Series 8. Hurrah! My favourite drama.

IdblowJonSnow · 14/12/2020 09:14

I love this series. It gets better and better. Less gratuitous later on I think. I don't like the naked close ups of dead bodies Sad

The character development and wry humour is spot on. Can't wait for series 8!

Holyrivolli · 14/12/2020 09:17

I’ve just started rewatching it from the start on the iplayer. Think I got to series 3 the last time. It’s fascinating to see how different the french judicial system is.

IcedPurple · 14/12/2020 12:03

@NewModelArmyMayhem18

Hopefully, it's already been sold to the BBC *@stumbledin*.
As I recall, the BBC is one of the producers so I don't think they'd have to buy it. It's probably easier for us to watch it than it is for the French. Isn't it on a subscription only channel in France?
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/12/2020 13:52

@IcedPurple I always skip the credits so wouldn't know whether the BBC is a producer or not. Not having lived in France during the drama's long run, I wouldn't have a clue about its availability on TV over there.
