5.30pm ITV1 (before the rugby) then results at 10pm (after the rugby)

I only watch tv once a year and that is to watch X Factor (I know I am sad, and should get out more...) but who is going to join me in this bundle of weekly fun?

am heartly sick of the sob story that goes with Niki - lots of people have really sad,tragic things in their lives and don't use it (though I suspect it's encouraged in her case by the tv people)

can I also say how irritating I find it when they're begging for you to phone in and vote by doing that pretending to phone thing with their hands - puts me right off (not that I'm bothering to phone anyway).

The phone sign doesn't bother me in the least- but the sob stories really do! Do any of them really haev it that hard? Think not.

don't know what happened to one true voice- it was a shame, because (from what i remember), the lads had better voices than the girls. `wonder what happened to Hazel who was pregnant (she then turned out to be too old after they put her in the group, so Nicola took over).

x-factor is defo a fix. What ever Cowell wants Cowell gets and sod everyone else - he said from day 1 he wanted a group (preferably a girl group) to win it this year.

I don't believe Bev had less votes than Hope. Hope are a pile of crap & the only one that can sing is phoebe and she aint that good.

indeed. I have now finally got around to reading Chart Throb- the ben elton book 'loosely' based on an x-factor type show. It all seems to fit perfectly- it is after all an entertainment show- and Simon Cowell wants to make money.

I've posted earlier that a group need to win to justify the format... I don't believe that Bev had less votes either- but how can it be proved? I would like to think that Sharon thought she was saving Bev by going to the public vote- but it back fired. Then again, i am hopelessly naive!!

and once again Bev was given the wrong song...without you is notoriously difficult to sig- it goes from one extreme to the other vocally, and can either show case a voice, or show off the imperfections. (ooh, get me , like i know what i'm on about!!)

I have hated the song since Mariah covered it. The original is a truly beautiful love song, not a shrieky warble fest.

Niki should have gone, just for doing power of love, another terrible 80's karaoke classic!

i think Hope probably did have more votes NOT because they're any good 9they're not) but because there's a basic logic to a group of 5 being able to raise mroe fans than a singleton- count in famillies, local support (that was huge around ehre when Andy was still in!), and everything else- you ahve 5 X the vote creating machine.

Agree about Niki's song. Truly awful choice.

Just found this thread - at last fellow x factor fans! Hope you're doing the drinking game next week as well. Can't believe Hope got through - said to dh that if Hope got through over Beverley it had to be a fix.

I don't care what anyone says, Hope won't win. They'll be out on Saturday, I'll bet. I think Rhydian or Leon are going to win. Probably Rhydian, but I agree with what Simon says about Leon, he may well be a dark horse.

Now, is it just me or is anyone else mystified, puzzled, curious and a wee bit suspicious about what Sharon said when it came to the part where the judges had to choose who to send home. You would have thought Sharon would save Beverley - Sharon thought Beverley was the better act, Beverley is Louis' act and Sharon is much closer to Louis than she is to Simon.. so it was a bit of a shocker that she chose to send Beverley home - and then said to the cameras "there's a reason I'm doing this and you'll realise why in a minute." Someone else suggested that Sharon didn't want to make a decision so let it go to deadlock. I don't agree, I think Sharon would have saved Beverley over Hope. What I think is that Sharon knew what the public vote was. Did anyone else think that? It just seemed too fishy to me.

If she is privvy to the public votes, that's bad as although she no longer has any acts, she is still a judge and is still part of the 'who to send home' bit. I am now wondering how much of it is all rigged. It's putting me off X Factor and I've always really enjoyed each series.

Oh, and I'm going to speak up for Leon. I thought he was really good last night. A big improvement. When you think back to his first couple of performances when he was awful, he's done really well the last couple of weeks.

It is not a fix. Hope are good and would have chart success. Bev can sing classics, which don't have much chart appeal.

All those of you (seemingly everyone!) who think that the other acts are better than them, do you ever actually vote in these competitions? I suspect not, and we probably aren't the demographic that are expected to vote either, but unsurprisingly the younger demographic who do vote like the girls. I like to think that I'm 'down with the kids' for having the same taste (and I do vote in these shows where I think it will make a difference - I voted for Will Young 28 times on final night ).

Yes, perhaps she has, although I haven't really noticed her really rooting for them. I know she likes Phoebe, and thinks that they let her slip through the net as a soloist. I still think she would have saved Beverley though. Who knows? Anyway, it's still weird what she did letting it go to deadlock and what she said too.

I thought it a bit suspect that Sharon quizzed Rhyd about the Joseph audition. I think she is going for the "your sort of a pro aren't you" angle in an effort to undermine him. She never really liked him did she.

I too like S.D. I wouldn't buy there stuff but my High School musical mad children would.

Hope stink. As soon as they are out of this comp they'll split - no chemistry. They dont even look right together. 3 are OK (lead singer, girl who does the splits and the long blond hair girl) the other 2 look odd (enormous black girl and short white girl with dodgy skin).

The dead Dad tales really get me down too. Nicky should just stop with it. I see the hand of Louis Walsh every time this crops up.

I think Sharon went to deadlock because she didn't want to save Hope, but she couldn't honestly save Bev based on that performance.

SD are very good at what they do, and they are entertaining. However, they're only going to appeal to a limited market. I do agree that they really need to tone down - or drop altogether - the overly stretched grins and clapping and skipping etc. etc. it's just making them look like a couple of buffoons when they're not really a bad act.

the song leon sang was 'the way you look tonight' apparently he did the ray charles version (surely he was doing the Leon version??) but i've heard Tony Bennet sing it too.
