They've been a lot more open about the pro dances not being live this season - or it would look like they were breaking bubbles.

BigBadVoodooHat · 30/11/2020 18:07

There was a suggestion of the results going out the same night but it would behave to be late and so beyond the bedtime of many kids.

They did used to show the results later on Saturday night, up to maybe series 4 or thereabouts. But then they realised that they were gifting a huge Sunday night audience share to Simon Cowell so the Sunday show was born.

The fact that the Saturday results show was too late for younger children was a factor too (from memory, it was on around 9:30-10pm)

BigBadVoodooHat · 30/11/2020 18:10

pretending it's being filmed on the Sunday is still dishonest.

When do they dishonestly ‘pretend’ it’s being filmed on Sunday? Confused

TheLadyOfShallnott · 30/11/2020 18:12

And hello Samcro.

I bet you are not yawn at all.

I witter on about feet. I am also a touch on the nippy side about some dancers under this name and other incarnations.

I rarely manage to post live on Saturday and come out with a spout when I finish work the next morning.

My opinions are my own and often yawny. Quite literally sometimes. Grin

Theromanempire · 30/11/2020 18:18

Ah, I frequently wonder how Dan Walker has escaped so far. Makes total sense and I am sure he is hoping it will continue as such. He also presents Football Focus live on Saturdays so that may be a blocker.

Reminds me of Jonathan Edwards who was principled about not competing on Sundays till they changed the event schedules for major tournaments and the triple jump was always on a Sunday. Soon changed his mind Hmm

iklboogeymum · 30/11/2020 18:21

@Elderflower14 - many sympathies. I've got two popped out discs & one is pressing on my sciatic nerve. My TENS machine broke yesterday and nothing's working for the pain at the minute.

Welcome @Samcro - I'm another non-expert two-pennorth commentator. I write a very irreverent and clueless blog round up to make it sound like I know what I'm talking about Grin.

RunningFromInsanity · 30/11/2020 18:23

Wait. The results show is actually filmed on Saturday?? After the main show? I thought they had to get all dressed up again on the Sunday.

And are all the pro dances pre-filmed usually?

BigBadVoodooHat · 30/11/2020 18:28

I don't understand Craig giving vowelphobe a 10 at all. It just shows the nonsense of couple's choice when there is no standard to mark against. I am not a huge Maisie fan but there was so much content in her quickstep more deserving of 10. She has been continually criticised for her feet by Shirley but no mention of vowelphobe's frequently sickled feet ( not relevant this week,I know). Usually Craig picks up on this all the time but vowelphobe continually gets away with it.

Maireas · 30/11/2020 18:32

Anton du Beke has won Richard Osman's House of Games! I'm so pleased for him to win something!

TheLadyOfShallnott · 30/11/2020 18:33

The ‘second’ show is mainly the reason why they can only afford two sleeves on Tess’s frocks once in a blue moon.

And why they are secretly glad for the Covid and don’t have to have an audience.

Those are not just any chairs. They are M&S bidet chairs. And someone has to empty them after the twelvety hours of filming.

Probably.

RunningFromInsanity · 30/11/2020 18:35

Blush I would try and look for differences in the make up too. I always thought it was a waste to have to do all the makeup again.

How long does the voting stay open for?
So it’s-
Main show
Voting
Quick tally of votes, touch up of makeup etc and then into the dance off

How long in between the 2 shows?
This has blown my mind.

Maireas · 30/11/2020 18:35

Clara gave it away - she's just said it was "48 hours ago" Halloween Shock

Impatiens · 30/11/2020 18:37

Shock or is it Halloween Shock? Anyway, Shock

BigBadVoodooHat · 30/11/2020 18:51

How long in between the 2 shows?

It varies. The votes need to be verified, then there’s always the risk of technical issues (e.g. if they need to re-film Peter Andre’s ‘standing ovation’. Sometimes they’re still there well into the night.

In pre-Covid times, the pro dances were often filmed mid afternoon on Saturday, and maybe also the musical guest (though, as I mentioned earlier, they’re sometimes filmed weeks in advance, depending on when said guest is in the country/available).

It’s not unknown for cases when a pro dances to the musical guest in a particular outfit, then they pan to the Clauditorium and there they are in their ‘Saturday’ costume! 🤣

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 30/11/2020 18:55

Some lovely snippets of vintage strictly then on ITT. They really need to make it a regular feature, sans Gethin!

Shame we didn't see more of each dance from beginning to end.

Maireas · 30/11/2020 18:55

When there's a full audience, they move the rows so it looks different.

Elderflower14 · 30/11/2020 19:02

Having just seen Ranvir and Gio on IT2 I've just realised who Gio's voice reminds me of......... FRONK IN FATHER OF THE BRIDE!!! 😂 😂 😂 😂

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/11/2020 19:03

There was a suggestion of the results going out the same night but it would behave to be late and so beyond the bedtime of many kids.

Originally didn't they used to do a 1/2hr results show on the same night as the Strictly competition? The Dancing was on at (say) 7.00-8.00, and the results at 9,30 - 10.00?

Have I imagined that?

Has this lovely gin betrayed me?

CharityDingle · 30/11/2020 19:04

The Graham Norton Show is recorded before Friday night, when it is actually shown. He makes it obvious, in a jokey way though. Grin

They never show the full dance of past dances. Really annoys me.

I liked the antique attic

Sorry - I didn't read ahead and didn't know you had said this.

At least I know that my beloved "Poetic License" hasn't let me down.

‘standing ovation’

Can we go back to the good old days of calling this a "standing ovulation" please. It always used to crack me up - I never tired of it, no matter how often it came up on the thread.

I so rarely get the chance to have a good snigger these days.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 30/11/2020 19:17

@impatiens I have a friend who works in a back stage role in TV - the earliest she has filmed a Christmas special is March.

JillyCareful · 30/11/2020 19:32

Standing ovulation......snigger!

I’m always amused by the Strictly Christmas special and how only those celebs eliminated by mid-November of the current series appear in the audience. I wonder if some people watching it think that maybe the final 5 were so up themselves they just couldn’t be arsed to turn up on “Christmas Day”, rather than the fact that they were still training 12 hours a day and filming ITT and stupid VTs) Grin
