What was Craig thinking?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/11/2020 12:39

And he was always the one who'd find something tiny and say it wasn't perfect so he couldn't give it a ten (Rachel and Vincent's rumba for example).

Personally I think that if they didn't start bandying about stupidly high scores from the beginning, the present 1-10 would work just fine. They should NEVER award a 10 except for a superlative performance, and that should only start to happen towards the end of the series when the standard is massively raised

Absolutely agree. I imagine former contestants looking on thinking 'THAT got a 10?!'
It devalues the marking, imo, the way 10s are being flung around. Where do you go from there after awarding or getting a 10 early on Hmm

He didn't give Ashley a ten because she breathed in the wrong place! Angry

I was embarrassed for Craig on Saturday. The GOAT thing was so cringeworthy. It's an epithet generally reserved for the likes of Roger Federer. So was Craig trying to say that NVWLS danced provably better than anyone has ever danced at any point in history until now, and is to dance what Federer is to tennis? Hmm

TheLadyOfShallnott · 30/11/2020 12:49

I think the vowel thief got two 8s and a 9 week one if my addled brain serves me.

How? Just how?

A nonsense.

TheLadyOfShallnott · 30/11/2020 12:51

Craig was more sheep mentioning goat.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/11/2020 12:54

I think I'm just going to imagine that they're actually marking out of 40. It'll be much less frustrating!

christmassongs · 30/11/2020 13:06

If a dance is worth of a 10 it should get a 10, even if it's week one. No point in not giving a 10 just because it's 'too early' - completions don't work like that.

However, HRVY did not deserve three 10s.

TheLadyOfShallnott · 30/11/2020 13:15

I get that some could pull out a fabulous dance on week one but it would be unlikely to be perfect (and it HAD to be perfect or as close as back in the day)

10s mean nowt to me now. More so when they are given out instead of 7s. Or 8s.

They’ve been cheapened to me 🤷‍♀️

TheLadyOfShallnott · 30/11/2020 13:19

And if someone genuinely was whacking out a 10 week one, I’d wonder why they were bothering going on Strictly in the first place.

TheLadyOfShallnott · 30/11/2020 13:20

Oops premature post

I’d think they were only going on to toot their own flute.

Exactly.

If I remember rightly, Craig was the one withholding the 10s last year, for example, when the contestants were almost at the final, and had given what (to me) appeared to be flawless performances.

Grin well, exactly. And there's no 'journey' if someone is so good they are being marked 10 from the beginning.
TheLadyOfShallnott · 30/11/2020 15:37

There is plenty of tooting going on this season as it is.

And as for slidey chaps and wag comments? Sigh. Not only tooting but shaking and thrusting to get attention? All the right kind I’m sure.

All about the journey there but not a strictly one.

Disappointing.

If I had a 1/10 paddle I’d wave it.

Frequentflier · 30/11/2020 15:55

I just haven't enjoyed this season at all. (And I really wanted to enjoy it). Shorter series, terrible costumes ( was there a sale on brown velour), horrible styling, awful songs, and then Couples Choice ensuring sambas were judged against hip hop.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/11/2020 16:04

I don't think there was a sale on brown velour, Frequent. I think a lot of brown velour was found wrapped round a sleeping tramp in a skip, and they costumes department swapped him an anorak for it.

He'd probably spilled meths on it.

Samcro · 30/11/2020 16:05

strange question here.
I want to join in with the chat, but have a feeling my posts are a bit yawn. can anyone give me tips on how to make them better?

Frequentflier · 30/11/2020 16:08

I will chat with you, Samcro. Have had a bad day and need to waste some time on here. :) Just post away.

@SchadenfreudePersonified LOL. How can anyone make Aljaz look bad? But they did.

Honestly, just post away Smile
I wouldn't worry too much, there's a really lovely mix of posters on here, some with dance experience and some with non.

I guess if you want people to respond to you it's best to add in questions every now and again.

Maireas · 30/11/2020 16:39

Samcro Willkommen, Bienvenu, Welcome!
Please just post what you want. This is a very nice place. Some of us have ugly feet, but no-one is harsh about it.. Halloween Grin

Frequentflier · 30/11/2020 16:43

Does anyone read Marianka Swain's blog? I really like the way she explains dance to non-dancers.

Impatiens · 30/11/2020 16:47

I've got a question! Why is the bbc allowed to carry on pretending that there's two separate shows, Saturday and Sunday? I remember some years ago (maybe 15 or so?) there was a big hoo-hah about falsifying stuff on bbc shows...can't quite remember the details now, I think a cbbc show was involved.

Anyway, it was all frowned upon and they were told to pack it in. So why is SCD exempt?

CaveMum · 30/11/2020 16:49

Welcome Samcro, all posts are valid (except for spoilers Wink)

Don’t feel you need to post a technical critique of every dancer/dance, just say what you feel.

Maireas · 30/11/2020 16:55

Frequentflier sorry to hear you've had a bad day. Have some cake and wine Cake Wine

Maireas · 30/11/2020 16:56

To answer your question, I don't know why they pretend it's a different night. It is a bit odd.
