Previous thread

I'm not sure 9 pages will last us, so I'm getting prepared a bit early! Check the last thread first before posting here — we might still be over there.

I wish Tess would stop saying and what do you want to say to your partner, actually I wish Tess would leave.

SunshineCake · 22/11/2020 22:26

@jambeforeclottedcream

SunshineCake I got the vibe that she'd save Maisie in the DO through gritted teeth.
Oh yes, last week she would have saved Max 🤔
PawFives · 22/11/2020 22:31

Just caught up. Blimey these threads move fast! Felt sorry for Maisie tonight she looked really sad, it must be horrible knowing the public don’t like her. I don’t think 2 party latins in a row helped either although she danced well. Also I didn’t recognise the song, and as a middle aged woman I’m probably the core demographic. Glad CQ went that routine was terrible, worried Shirley would save her! Don’t know what she saw in it. Mind you she was cringeworthy the whole night!

Destinysdaughter · 22/11/2020 22:34

Emilybrontescorsett totally agree Debbie Mcgeee should have won, her Argentinean tango made me cry! Or if not., Alexandra Burke should have won. I can't even remember the name of that inconsequential little twerp who won it that year, I was so angry!!

chillied · 22/11/2020 22:36

Given where Clara was on the leader board I gave her 6 votes (I seem to have 2 BBC accounts - I'm not arguing with that!). And DH gave her his 3.

I wouldn't have wanted to see Maisie, Bill, Ranvir, Jamie or Harvey in the dance off, but I think all of them could have won a dance off (as indeed Maisie did).

By undermarking Clara and forcing lots of people to pile votes on her, the judges left Maisie open to another dance off, in my view, because people were too busy voting for Clara to spread their votes around.

Voice0fReason · 22/11/2020 22:52

I liked Caroline at first but I have gone off her over the weeks and she was the right one to go this week.
JJ has to be next on the list.
I'm still enjoying Bill. There are better dancers but he's the one I look forward to watching the most at the moment.

EvilRingahBitch · 22/11/2020 22:57

Monkseal’s theory has always been that the dance-off sometimes achieves the opposite of what it’s meant to do. If there wasn’t a dance-off and it was simply decided on the combination of judges scores and audience votes then we wouldn’t have been so paranoid about giving All The Votes to Clara, because just stopping her from being bottom would be enough. Since we knew we had to get her up two places not just one we all voted like mad things.

Clawdy · 22/11/2020 23:10

Just spotted new thread, checking in.

On Twitter James Jordan's suggestion for Johannes was "Don't ever f*cking lick me again!"
Frazzled2207 · 22/11/2020 23:14

@Skipsurvey

hrvy get's the votes from the mothers, do young people even watch strictly?
My 5 and 7 yo DSs are obsessed
SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/11/2020 23:17

That's a good point, actually (thought I don't think Clara was so much under marked as let down by rubbish music, routine, costume and make-up - plus there's were overmarked)

Mylittlephonyy · 22/11/2020 23:19

Sorry for being a noob but what do people mean when they say “ringer”?

chillied · 22/11/2020 23:24

Yes I agree Schaden, Clara was sold down the river by the costume, theme etc. And some others were overmarked. Whichever way I think Clara has more dance talent than that routine allowed her to show!

megletthesecond · 22/11/2020 23:26

My 12 and 14yr old don't know who HRVY is. My teens eyes were rolling at the lack of vowels. They know Clara because we listen to radio 1, and they love Bill too.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 22/11/2020 23:30

@Mylittlephonyy a ringer is someone with dance experience. Often trying to minimise or deny the fact that they spent years at stage school having hours of dance training every week.

ScienceSensibility · 22/11/2020 23:55

I wonder if the judges have a feedback session with the producers and reflect on their marking?

Given the, frankly, ridiculous scoring where 9s and 10s are being dished out at will, it inevitably ensures at least one tie on the leaderboard, which drags more couples into the potential dance off ‘pool’.
The judges should ensure some separation on the leader board, marking couples relative to one another, maybe?

At this rate everyone will be on thirty points, and the judges say won’t count until the dance off.

They’re not being very smart given the power they have and the rules of arithmetic.

I probably haven’t worded this as well as I should have! 😀

MoonJelly · 23/11/2020 00:03

@ThursdayLastWeek

I voted for Maisie because I don’t understand why people dont like confident young women
So how come people like Kara Tointon, Georgia Foote, Alesha Dixon, Rachel Stevens, Chelsee Healey, Stacey Dooley etc did so well?
MoonJelly · 23/11/2020 00:06

On the other hand, there seems to be an extraordinary amount of hatred for arguably less confident middle-aged women on here, even to the extent of projecting reactions from Johannes that simply didn't happen.

Mylittlephonyy · 23/11/2020 00:07

@DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes
Aaaah I see! Thank you for explaining! :D

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/11/2020 01:03

I think I need to make an effort to watch ITT and see Maisie. She dances well, but I tend to forget her routines by the end tbh — there's no 'hook' to connect me to them. It probably hasn't helped that I don't think I've been a massive fan of some of the music she's had.

I want her to doing ballroom in a lovely dress with her hair done elegantly to a nice song next week, although I'll settle for 2/3. Grin

Jamie needs a proper ballroom dance as well — I can't believe he hasn't done any since week 2 (and that was AS, so actually a speciality dance).

Sonebody (sorry, I can't remember who) was asking about JJ's Latin. He's done paso and jive, so none of the "party" Latin. I wonder when we'll get the first rumba?

Egghead68 · 23/11/2020 02:55

@GrouchyKiwi

People see what they want to see, I guess.

The only clearcut case of a pro loathing their celeb, IMO, was Aliona with Gregg Wallace, and I couldn't blame her for that.

Brendan and Lulu too
ImAncient · 23/11/2020 06:21

Science that article sounds interesting. I’ve often wondered how Shirley got the gig. She’s not particularly good at being a judge imo. And she’s a bitch.

ImAncient · 23/11/2020 06:22

Gosh that sounds harsh but I’ll clarify. She’s not very nice to some of the females & always seems to single one out.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/11/2020 07:22

These threads move so quickly! I missed the last one completely 😂

Good point about Maisie doing too much party latin. She needs something elegant and slow, to prove she's not just a one trick pony.

ThursdayLastWeek · 23/11/2020 07:37

I would argue moonjelly that they lacked confidence in the beginning.
I certainly remember Alesha Dixon in the DO, the judges telling Rachel Stevens to 'emote more' until her tango and/or rumba (?) and as I mentioned upthread Kara Tointon fell on her arse.

People like a journey right?

Anyways. I think that the way Maisie is judged compared to say Danny Mac the ringiest ringah there ever was is distinctly unfair.

But it’s just my opinion! And it’s why I shall vote for her.
