Don’t usually join in with this thread but just came on to say I also thought there was some weird alternative reality thing going on with the comments and scoring last night - but I was also following along a bit on Twitter and they too seemed to be seeing genius where I could only see cringe or awkwardness. Caroline and Ranvir - I’m sorry I thought they were both a bit crap.

It was such a big change for Gio wasn't it - from cocky Italian Stallion who was very a bit annoying to a lovely guy who looks after his partners very well and goes a long way to bring out their best.

I'm enjoying Anton as a judge too - far fewer histrionics. Glad Craig had a dig at Shirl for being inappropriately OTT making kissy faces.

I'm actually starting to get a bit annoyed with Jamie's dance choices. He hasn't done any of the five 'proper' ballroom dances yet! The only ballroom-y one was the American Smooth where he ended up in the dance off.

I don't think it's fair that a couple can get this far and might not be able to dance one of the styles at all.

JJ and Amy are the only ones to have alternated ballroom and Latin each week.

He isn't basically panting and drooling over them though so it seems less creepy I think.

Bill BVB Ranvir and Harvey
I think Bill has already done enough to get there
Jamie - if he does > ballroom (Karen's canny and doing what she did with Chris I think but it will bite her in the bum if she ends up with VW/rumba/waltz at end). I would like to see a different Karen showdance as I hated Mark Wright's down the stairs/up the stairs
Ranvir - as, like Jamie, no previous experience. Plus she is doing it on the back of no sleep. Plus I want a Bollywood showdance please. She is the one who has surprised me the most.
Harvey - I really want to see a Janette showdance.

Had Nicola not had to go out, fifth one would have been Clara, got to love a fellow superfan. If any of the above four have a bad week Clara can have their spot. It also seems good karma/just reward for Janette and Aljaz who have put their relationship on hold for 3 months for bubbling.

So - the four to leave over the next month - JJ, Caroline, Maisie, (one more that should have been Nic but will end up being someone I like)
I have nonetheless been enjoying the series regardless of music choices, costuming and overdoing the Latin.

Oh I’ve not been as aware of Craig being sleezy with the contestants. I think I remember the odd remark jokingly made but not proper on ott stuff like Shirley dishes out. Maybe last year they were all pretty and with Kelvin. Even if Craig does it too at least he’s not letting it influence his scores and dishing out 9s and 10a willynilly. His 10 is always the one that actually matters isn’t it.

I’m so looking forward to tonight as genuinely can’t think whol’ll be in dance off. I totally ruined it for myself last week. Sunday night I still had the show and results to watch as hadn’t had chance. Sitting with child refusing to let me leave room until they asleep (I know I know we working on it!!) so on phone and browsing Internet specifically avoiding this thread and newspapers etc. Look on Facebook completely forgetting I’d liked the official strictly page few days prior and first thing I see is the results all over it (which they would be being well after broadcast) I could have kicked myself. Rookie mistake

Omg, yes to this!! I really had him pinned as an upper- class arrogant twit (disclaimer - I have never watched MIC) but he is absolutely not! He is lovely, has a real sense of fun and self-deprecating. I honestly think Karen is having the best time this year...which is saying something as I imagine Chris Ramsey was fun last year.

He isn’t quite as blatant as Shirley, plus we are possibly less accustomed to hearing those sort of comments from a woman so take more notice of it.

Is Ranvir doing it off the back of no sleep. I watch GMB usually and I can’t think of the last time she was on it.

You'd think GMB would give Ranvir a couple of weeks off.

Jamie's dance was an excellent illustration of why they need to do something about tightening up on Couple's Choice. If there are no criteria, how is it possible to mark them sensibly? The reality is that if the couple vaguely manage to move in time to the music that seems to be as much as is expected of them. When you compare what is required for a street dance to what is required for something like Foxtrot or Argentine Tango, there is simply no comparison.

So totally agree with this. All of Jamie and Karen's dances look the same: leaping about with lots of enthusiasm, but no actual technique or even recognisable steps. Their Charleston looked exactly the same as their street dance, to my admittedly very untrained eye.

Is she not? Ooh, fake news then and Clara can be in my top four instead! Claud said last night that she was still having to get up at 3am? So I assumed she was still doing GMB (I don't watch it but know she was on it with feet in ice last month allegedly).

She’s always been a bit of a part timer on that show - it’s Piers, Susannah, Ben, Charlotte and Kate with the occasional appearance by that Citizen Kahn chap. Ranvir does a political news item once in a blue moon and does presenting when everyone else is off in summer.

Jamie's samba was recognisably a samba and his samba bounce was excellent. Everything else though is exuberant puppy with tongue out. He will continue to get my vote though unless he messes up ballroom spectacularly. I would like to see his paso face though.

A bit harsh on Jamie - he did the samba well, and had good footwork. He's not doing the same every week. It looks different to me. What is the same every week is his exuberance!

Then for the love of God, why is she getting up at stupid o'clock? My school run is 7.45am at the earliest.

According to tabloids she is doing 16 hour days atm.

She said she gets up at 3am to read the news on GMB and arrives at TV studios at 4.30am. After her news briefing she goes on air at 6am, finishes at 9am and practices with Giovanni until 6pm. It's only when she gets home at 7.30pm that she gets to spend time with Tushaan. Finally the grafter goes to bed at 9pm after watching Modern Family to wind down.

Ha ha, I’ve nothing against Ranvir btw, I quite like her (not this week though) but unless I just happen to have not been watching when she’s read the news - it hasn’t been her, it’s been Piers and susannah with Kate reading the news, or Susannah and Ben with Kate reading the news. Then Lorraine comes on at 9 or whatever. Does anybody else watch GMB on here? Quite prepared to be corrected if other viewers have spotted her.

Nope - I know she’s the political correspondent officially, but she hasn’t done any of that for ages either.

Watch GMB occasionally but saw it more often during lockdown

I wouldn't say Ranvir was on very often. Perhaps more in the summer. I'd say I Laura who does the weather is on it more even.

Maybe there's a news show in before GMB there used to be called Sunrise or something.

I wonder how much they get for appearing on this? It's a big commitment for them training each day. The judges and presenters must earn a fair amount too! It
Must blow a hole in the bbc budget!

I would phone up GMB. Ranvir's clearly not pulling her weight.
