I'm a bit worried we'll run out the other thread tonight, and it'll be too fast-paced for me to get a new one going during the show, so I'm getting prepared early!

Feel free to place mark or watch this thread, but head back to the previous thread for the moment, and we can move across later. Glitterball

Zoes not pregnant at 50 years old, good god. Hmm It would have to be donated eggs.

She's just got menopause weight. Totally normal.

the80sweregreat · 17/11/2020 09:44

I thought she looked well on ITT.
My friend was so skinny for years and is now a little bit bigger due to the menopause and it suits her. She looks better but then it was only a pound or two!
Zoe might be the same? ( the menopause weight didn't do me any favours at all though ! 😃)

MabelChiltern1 · 17/11/2020 09:57

Zoe is doing couch to 5K. I doubt she’s pregnant. I prefer her big floaty dress to the usual black trousers and sparkly top uniform Glitterball

EvilRingahBitch · 17/11/2020 09:58

I think if you’ve seen Bill’s musical standup shows, and you think about the split second timing and the countless hours of rehearsal they must take it’s hardly surprising that he’s acquitting himself well on the ballroom floor.

What other instrumentalists have they had on? Harry Judd, obviously, Katie Dereham I think is a decent pianist, and Ed Balls is a competent hobbyist. All three really showed the benefit in their dancing. Any others?

CharityDingle · 17/11/2020 10:20

Maisie is the better dancer, imo.
So I do think it was the right decision. Does Motsi ever disagree with Shirley, I wonder?

Elderflower14 · 17/11/2020 10:53

I see we've gone from is Tess pregnant to is Zoe pregnant!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣

IntermittentParps · 17/11/2020 12:16

I think that like me, other people found Maisie’s dance theme baffling and the doll dancing unappealing. But I suspect the real killer was not people voting against her per se, but more that people voted in their droves to keep JJ in.
Ranvir was very funny bringing up and joking about the rumours. Might take the wind out of the media's sails for a bit.

MoonJelly · 17/11/2020 12:38

When Ola was on Strictly, every single year there was speculation about whether she was pregnant. I guess it was because she used to wear pretty skin-tight costumes that occasionally showed a tiny bit of a belly.
Obviously it was incorrect every single time.

emilybrontescorsett · 17/11/2020 12:55

I really hope Nancy gets a partner next time. It would be lovely to see more of her.

wowfudge · 17/11/2020 12:59

The people who are musical have a natural advantage as do those who are actors and can sell a routine/be the character required.

Yes - it's the difference between being able to learn the steps and being able to dance. I could learn the steps but don't think I could dance (not with the amount of time they have)
wowfudge · 17/11/2020 13:16

I think I'd be shite, though I'd love to be good at it.

That's the thing with Strictly, some people are hopeless and don't improve, some can do the steps and gradually learn to actually dance and some of them have ability from the off and it's whether they then progress during the competition by finessing their performances or getting even better.

And sports people often have the an advantage of fitness/being used to training etc. but often struggle with the performance aspect. Different groups of people have different strengths but there are exceptions - who'd have thought that a cycling golf medalist would have no balance or a tennis coach no rhythm? But on the whole the people that have totally struggled have come from grouping that don't have any of the advantages so not musical, performance or sports background.
DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 17/11/2020 13:26

*gold medalist damn the auto fill.

randomsabreuse · 17/11/2020 13:36

Aled Jones was pretty decent early on. Also I think Lesley Garrett

I don't think that being a famous pop singer is enough rhythm training compared to serious piano training. I'd expect a good drummer from a rock band to be able to find the beat, boyband singer not so much...

I'd say Bill's musical timing is what is helping him far more than some dance lessons (aim being impressing a girl??) 40 years ago - once he's learned the steps he'll have a natural feel for exactly when he's supposed to move rather than learning what and when robotically - will look better with live music than someone sporty who can learn a movement pattern but with less feel for the nuances of the beat - I get the impression that there's some interesting cross rhythms required in Latin, and the Viennese Waltz is not a mechanical 3 (or shouldn't be according to my music GCSE memories)

CounsellorTroi · 17/11/2020 14:03

I felt for Judy Murray. She was not any kind of performer, be it actor, pop star, tv personality, sport star even politician. She was as close to an ordinary member of the public as you could get.

Farewelltoqualms · 17/11/2020 14:29

Oh I thought Judy Murray did well. She was not a natural dancer, but she was very trim and fit and looked very elegant doing ballroom. And she seemed a genuinely nice person.

SoupDragon · 17/11/2020 14:34

Judy needed way more time to relax into it. A good example of being able to do the moves but not that indefinable bit that makes it into a dance.

AGnu · 17/11/2020 15:49

I wish Strictly would have a spot for a member of the public, chosen at random, each year. I'd totally be up for it! Grin I have good "musicality" & I can wiggle my hips... But I'm incredibly socially awkward & have a really rubbish memory so I would almost certainly struggle to remember what I was supposed to be doing, especially if there were people watching me. Also, I'm quite unfit & have no physical or mental stamina. I'd give it about 10 minutes before I decided it was too hard & just sat on the floor refusing to move! Unless I was dancing with Giovanni & then I'd put the effort in... Wink

SoupDragon · 17/11/2020 16:07

I really want to be able to do that "lock step" thing so I can use it to cross my kitchen at all times. That or moonwalking.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/11/2020 16:16

I'd love to do that too!

And because I'd be so naff, I'd be out the first week, giving the slebs the chance to relax into the format and provide a better performance from week 2 onwards . . .

Maireas · 17/11/2020 16:16

After ppeatfruit posted, I searched for Zoe's pregnancy, but couldn't find a reference. All will be revealed!

the80sweregreat · 17/11/2020 16:36

I'd love strictly to be just the public ! Maybe just one season. I think it could work well and be popular. A bit different.

I’d love it too.

But then could you just imagine all the stage school brats / bored housewife types / sexy plumbers they’d end up showing us

Maireas · 17/11/2020 16:48

Oh Lord, they'd all have a tear jerking back story, wouldn't they? Featuring Nans/disability/triumph against odds etc
