I'm a bit worried we'll run out the other thread tonight, and it'll be too fast-paced for me to get a new one going during the show, so I'm getting prepared early!

Feel free to place mark or watch this thread, but head back to the previous thread for the moment, and we can move across later. Glitterball

Looking forward to Ranvir and Joe Varney's AT next week - I loved his AT with Debbie McGee.

I would be all over him if I were Ranvir so if she is then good on her!

ThursdayLastWeek · 15/11/2020 20:32

The way we (general public) fetishise the military is a bit weird, I agree.

But he seems like a nice enough chap. Just a bit of an also ran this year.

ElspethFlashman · 15/11/2020 20:32

Monkseal ain't impressed by the Army pandering either:

"JJ & Amy gonna ride out for their Charleston next week in an actual tank" #scd

Redcrayons · 15/11/2020 20:33

If I got the opportunity I'd shg his brains out*
He’d have to sort his Barnet out, but otherwise I concur

derxa · 15/11/2020 20:34

@the80sweregreat

He looks gutted. Bless him. Billy Ocean next week! A big fan of his.
Love Billy.
SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/11/2020 20:36

The way we (general public) fetishise the military is a bit weird, I agree.

Especially when IRL army veterans get the sh*t end of everything. The number of ex-servicemen who are sleeping on the streets - with physical injuries and worse - mental health problems and PTSD - is huge. They form a massive proportion of rough sleepers.

The army chews them up and spits them out and doesn't give monkeys.

We weren't even allowed to hold Memorial Day services this year in our parish, despite them being outside. It was very sad.

ImAncient · 15/11/2020 20:37

I agree about JJ - something off.

But I don’t dislike him as much as I dislike Shirley. Silly cow.

CaveMum · 15/11/2020 20:38

Going to be pedantic, but JJ is a Marine. If you call Marine’s “soldiers” they get very cross. They’re sailors.

AllAboutTheMonet · 15/11/2020 20:39

Horehound

Noooo. I would be gutted if that were the case. He wouldn’t, surely?

Maireas · 15/11/2020 20:40

The judges are usually unanimous, aren't they? Shirley surprised me by saying she'd have kept Max, but she's a stickler for footwork. I suspected the popular vote would keep JJ. Hard not to want to save a wounded veteran in full uniform.

Piggywaspushed · 15/11/2020 20:42

The adulation of the military is quite a post 2000 Help For Heroes thing. Maybe I think that because I grew up in the 80s in sectarian Glasgow mind! Simon Cowell has a lot to do with it. (not my upbringing!)

Sabrina124 · 15/11/2020 20:42

Amy seems to be very touchy feely with her partners - she was the same with Karin last year. I think she needs to calm down

unique1986 · 15/11/2020 20:48

I don't normally like Amy find her boring to watch over emotional etc.
But think she suited the period Army dance and look.
Could imagine her in a period film.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 15/11/2020 21:00

SimonJT

Its a shame as Max is finally starting to come out of his shell a bit.

I thought that too. Glad Maisie was saved but sorry to see Max out so soon, sure he would have been an improver.

the80sweregreat · 15/11/2020 21:00

If they had gone to Blackpool this year they would have had Amy and JJ on a boat in the Irish Sea!

Spinachpatty · 15/11/2020 21:02

@CaveMum

Going to be pedantic, but JJ is a Marine. If you call Marine’s “soldiers” they get very cross. They’re sailors.
I know this. My 'collective" comment was aimed at the average squaddie, not JJ in particular.

Agree that we treat our veterans very shoddily indeed. On leaving, they lose job, accommodation, status, comradeship , identity all at once, it's particularly bad if they joined up very young. Agree the homelessness situation is dire and a national outrage. Sentimentality doesn't help with this; proper government funding does.

MoonJelly · 15/11/2020 21:02

@Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese

Every single thing Caroline says is a dig. Poor Johannes. What dance is she doing next week?
This simply isn't remotely true.
MoonJelly · 15/11/2020 21:06

@TitsInAbsentia

Am convinced Gorks wants to go home early to his girls....
He is with them, isn't he? I think it's Maisie who's living on her own so he can stay with them.
stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 15/11/2020 21:08

Ah now. Wasn’t expecting that.

But for me, I preferred his dance. Dullish as it was. I think she has more ‘scope’ but I think she was kept on the strength of that and not the dance off.

My my.

Love Billy Ocean .

Wanders off singing red light spells danger.... 😍

Silverstripe · 15/11/2020 21:10

I agree about JJ - something off.

I’ve known him since we were teens. Absolutely one of the nicest, most straightforward and genuine people you could ever hope to meet. He doesn’t have a side, he’s just decent all the way through.

Figgygal · 15/11/2020 21:14

Poor Max that’s harsh
Agree re: JJ think he should have gone unfortunately

MoonJelly · 15/11/2020 21:16

I liked JJ last week, the "Rainbows keep falling on my head" dance was really charming. However, I did feel dressing him up in uniform the week of Remembrance Day was almost cynical.

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 15/11/2020 21:16

That is nice to know silverstripe Smile

I don’t know why he moves me. He just does.

AllAboutTheMonet · 15/11/2020 21:21

Glad to hear it silverstripe thought he’d be a gent.

2Rebecca · 15/11/2020 21:23

I have no time for Maisie type dancers On Strictly. Young women I've never heard of who dance perfectly from week 1. They spoil the competition. They should try and have them all starting from the same preferably low ability. The Maisies seem to be cheating
