Ugly House to Lovely House

Really???

Ugly house to uglier house. That design was shocking!

OP posts:

They’ve succeeded in making the front even uglier! The first thing I thought was the steps! How ridiculous. The front rendered extension makes it look cheap. Next door seem to have an extension faced in the same painted stone.
A lot of money for nor much extra space downstairs.

TeaAndHobnob · 29/10/2020 21:04

I went to university with the guy that did the kitchen. Great local firm 👍

Tamingofthehamster · 29/10/2020 21:13

@nancy75

Last weeks was an abomination, if you lived next door you’d be tempted to burn it down when the owners were out!“

At least it not like Phil and Kirsty’s Love it Or List it when they do a big extension blocking the neighbours light, and then move house anyway.

LadyEloise · 29/10/2020 23:42

I thought tonights front extension was ugly. Next door matched up when they extended, it looked much nicer.
I agree re all the steps at the front with a new baby and all the paraphernalia that brings - carting it ( the paraphernalia) in and out !!!

icelolly99 · 30/10/2020 12:28

I don't understand why this couple bought this house in the first place??!! After moving so many times why would you settle for something you don't like/suit your needs? I presume the area must have an amazing school for them to so want to buy there.....

Cassimin · 30/10/2020 12:37

I often worry that they spend far too much and if they wanted to sell they would never get their money back.

ramblingsonthego · 30/10/2020 15:42

The female from the couple has been on a frugi clothing group this morning. Apparently some of the clothes were donated to her from frugi for filming! It surprised me some what.

I did want to ask why they bought the house and had only owned it 3 weeks when they wanted to do all this work. I don't know the area at all, but I find it hard to believe that they couldn't find a 4 bed for the additional 140k they spent on getting the 4 bed and downstairs extension.

I also wanted to ask why didn't you fix the tap if you wanted to be so sustainable. Her husband was obviously handy with stuff so why couldn't he change a washer instead of leaving it dripping for weeks and weeks.

LadyEloise · 30/10/2020 15:55

Wow that's interesting re Frugi donating clothes for filming.
Does that mean that much of the furniture, white goods and furnishings are donated too ?

CatkinToadflax · 30/10/2020 18:34

I couldn’t work out how last night’s couple had got on the show if they’d only owned the house for 3 weeks. Wouldn’t they have had to apply months earlier?

The black and concrete abomination from the week before was indeed Ugly House to Uglier House! Baffling!

icelolly99 · 30/10/2020 19:29

That annoying alarm when they went in the house....surely you could get your estate agent to contact the previous owners or just get out a screwdriver driver and disconnect it.....

nancy75 · 30/10/2020 19:54

The door alarm was ridiculous, all you’d need to do was take the contact plate off the door, it would have taken 2 minutes

Flaunch · 30/10/2020 19:57

I really liked this weeks house, it was designed really well although I agree about the steps being a nightmare with a baby! I assume they are planning to paint/render the front of the house as they had done the back, I can’t imagine they were going to leave it that awful white block work. They probably ran out of money.

BawJaws · 30/10/2020 20:00

Haha I knew instantly which episode you were looking at

StanfordPines · 30/10/2020 20:52

That architect company who fart on about being all green and that can fuck off given that they have a hugely eco unfriendly nespresso machine.

StanfordPines · 30/10/2020 21:04

Also, since when is an en suite bathroom one that means going across the landing to access it?

StanfordPines · 30/10/2020 21:28

So the parents are on a different floor to the children, including the baby?

littleone7 · 30/10/2020 21:37

@nameychange

Captain - thanks, we were thinking Ranmoor or Fulwood but didnt look quiet right, the roads are too wide
It is Sterndale Road in Millhouses
icelolly99 · 30/10/2020 21:57

So they paid 330k for it in Jan 2020 (plus the 140k work!....) btw the house adjoining them was last sold in 1997 for 56,250!

Flaunch · 30/10/2020 22:07

Wonder how much it’s worth now? Do the TV company give them money towards the costs?

StanfordPines · 30/10/2020 22:35

They seemed like a lovely couple and I liked how the house was decorated.
Owing all that money on credit cards would worry me.

nameychange · 05/11/2020 20:07

I like 1960s houses! I’d make a few small tweaks to the outside of this one but spend most of the budget getting the inside right

nameychange · 05/11/2020 20:11

Just realised that this is a revisit rather than whole new programme, thought it looked familiar

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/11/2020 21:54

The house looked much better (originally looked like a block of council flats) but why did they tarmac over the entire front garden? Did they need parking for 20 cars? Not a plant in sight.

FAQs · 05/11/2020 21:55

Did you notice tonight when they were talking about the budget in the taxi on the way to their emergency architect meeting, they got out of the cab and went into the meeting and both were wearing different clothes and the woman had a different hair style, they must have got changed in the lift 🤣 or dodgy editing.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/11/2020 08:27

Haha! I missed that.
