Hope Caroline isn't just "waft and wave".

CaveMum · 24/10/2020 23:06

Finally caught up with everyone’s comments!

JJ better than I expected; Bill had me in stitches, but in a good way; Ranvir overmarked; still think HRVY resembled Bambi!

I hope everyone gets an “opposite“ dance next week so we can see a contrast, it’s not fair when some folk get 2 latin or 2 ballroom in a row at this stage, and don’t get me started when they give some couples Cha Cha Cha and Rumba on consecutive weeks!

Grin I hope we get more like this!

MrsWooster · 24/10/2020 23:43

I think I’m enjoying this thread even more than the show!

Hello there everyone !! Well it wasn't just a teeny bit OTT ??? The opening pro dance I'm referring to, the costumes were too much IMO!! They took away the attention from the great dancing. Also the decor of the studio blimey everyone there must have needed sunglasses. Anyone remember hearing that the audience were Care workers? Did I imagine it?

Oh blimey that left shoulder of Tess's was obviously missing the light, PUT IT AWAY darling Grin.

stillsomewhat Sorry to wait this long to reply but yes it was on the One Show . Johannes is fantastic, CQ a definite ringah bit of a luvvie. I hope they stay in for his sake.

Not sure about all the WHITE costumes (including Motsi's ).

I did like the dancers actually sitting down to watch instead of hanging over the balcony in Claud's area, now with added screen.

TitsInAbsentia · 25/10/2020 09:40

Morning all! Feels like so long since I've been on a strictly thread, but here we are again Smile

Totally agreed with you ppeatfruit that the costumes on the opening number were just messy, plus I found them all dancing in a big jumble so again hard to see what others were doing.

Kind of liked Claudia talking to all the couples without all the usual clowning/gurning/attention seeking that goes on.

Definitely a lot of 'non' music going on, I totally get trying to shake things up a bit but some of the tunes really didn't sell the dances.

Also not a major fan of the graphics vs conventional scenery (the train, the cars) but then I'm not a fan of too many props anyway.

Thought there were some good dances for week one all round, although personally felt there was a fair bit of overmarking going on and def one or two ringers in there but let's see how the weeks go by.

I'm actually wondering if Gemma made Gorks bleach his hair to make him less attractive to his partner, of course I'd just make him wear a hat Grin

awaynboilyurheid · 25/10/2020 09:41

Bruno hasn’t watched one second ...brilliant Line from monkseal
I thought that too! Caroline was ott and a real drama queen, reign it in its week one! Light on her feet but oh my she really think she’s something.

Thought the judges even Craig were too kind at times must be the pandemic effect. Has the opposite effect on me so many irritating me this year!
Ranvir was wooden and really disliked Lubas choreography, poor Jason one minute jumping around next in hold. Katya and Nicola were too frantic. Maisie is v stage school and top of my annoying list.
My favs were Karen and Harvey this week enjoyed their jive.

Whose Kai?

iklboo · 25/10/2020 10:12

People are being a bit harsh on Caroline aren't they? She just cried - nothing unusual about that on strictly

Yep. A couple of years ago everyone was gushing at 'Aw-img' at Ore Oduba bursting into tears like an overtired toddler every five minutes. God forbid a woman shows her emotions.

covetingthepreciousthings · 25/10/2020 10:14

Just a heads up Incase anyone didn't realise but on Spotify there are playlists for Strictly, not official but people add to them each week, you can go through previous years too - just search for 'strictly come dancing 20..'

I love them, they are my go to music playlist over winter. Obviously some tracks are better than others Halloween Wink

awaynboilyurheid · 25/10/2020 10:17

Yes but it was the ott luvvie .. I just love daaahhhnnnce

Seriously get a grip ..
Also for the record I disliked Ore crying too I certainly want Aw ing at him either.

SoupDragon · 25/10/2020 10:20

As I remember it they were eye rolling and complaining about him too (at least on here). No one is allowed to show emotion.

I would be a blubber - I cry whenever there is overwhelming emotion of any sort (not great when that emotion is anger!)

SimonJT · 25/10/2020 10:22

Hiding emotions isn’t at all healthy, nor is it healthy to berate others for having perfectly normal emotions.

awaynboilyurheid · 25/10/2020 10:35

But ok to berate people for having an opinion?

SimonJT · 25/10/2020 10:38

@awaynboilyurheid

Closing off emotions is unhealthy, thats a medical fact, not an opinion. It has also been shown that people who choose to berate others for showing normal emotions are more likely to have problems expressing their own emotions in a healthy manner.

Research is not an opinion, not sure how research is berating anyone, unless I’m missing something (english is not my first language)?

SimonJT · 25/10/2020 10:39

Just googled and berate is an acceptable choice of word for what people are saying about showing normal emotions.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/10/2020 10:41

Crying at the show, fine. Crying in training, fine.

BBC choosing to air the bit where she sat on the floor and had a cry? Not so sure. If it were me, I'd probably feel a bit silly for having done it, and think that it looked a bit undignified and not want to be reminded of it.

Plus I'd prefer to see them actually practising. They do enough mucking around in the training videos anyway!

We are talking about a dance tv programme it’s not psychology hour. I’m sure there’s a forum on here for you to vent your feelings must be shared and expressed openly at all times approach. . Is this you Caroline? Anyhoo back to the dance chat ...

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/10/2020 10:44

@SimonJT

Hiding emotions isn’t at all healthy, nor is it healthy to berate others for having perfectly normal emotions.
There's a difference between hiding your emotions and having them recorded, cut into a clips package, and broadcast to the nation dats later though.

(I do agree with your first point though, nothing wrong with showing emotion in an everyday sense.)

Someone always has to spoil it with a lecture. Stick your moralising where the sun don’t shine (and that was me expressing a perfectly healthy emotion)

I genuinely don’t understand what you mean, it was a few lines, not a lecture?

Wardrobe related comments:

-bring back Latin trousers
-poor Dianne
-Amy's dress was lovely
-why is nobody in a proper full length dress for ballroom?
-JJ's bum would have looked a lot less sticky-out in tails, although I liked the colours
-you don't wear Latin shoes for an American smooth
-stop the skinny trousers on men. It doesn't look particularly attractive in real life and looks even worse when they're dancing
-get them all into 2.5" heels for Latin. Yes, they might wobble at first, but they'll learn, and it'll tip their pelvis back for them

OP posts:
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/10/2020 10:50

(And when I say all, I mean the women. Replace "2.5"" with "Cuban heel" for the men.)

If it's only "dance chat" why did you complain about Caroline showing emotions and label her a drama Queen/luvvie?

No one "berated" anyone for having an opinion.

The constant criticism of the celebrities showing emotion is one of the things that makes me want to give up on the thread TBH. Every year.
