I haven't read the book or anything but looks good.
Also The 7.39 is repeating tomorrow and Tuesday same writer.

Is that the one with David (?) who had an affair on a commute? Was that based on a book by David Nicholls too? Didn't realise that.

I'm looking forward to Us tonight, I actually bought the book to try read before the series but didn't realise it started tonight so looks like I'll do it the other way round!

From the title I thought it would be a bit more evenhanded in its focus, but it seems so much about the husband. He is 'interestingly' flawed, having to go on a journey of self-development and reflection etc. She is stuck with being sensible, right, emotionally intelligent, da da da, no where to go because she is already perfect.

Hope it changes. Even in the flashback scenes they just moe-or-less endlessly talk about his career.

Perhaps next week's episode will reverse the focus and give her some space.

It’s all a bit binary for me- he’s a bit Uptight, dull and ridiculous, she’s sexy and exciting and cool. Having said that, I suspect I’m the Douglas in our relationship....

That dinner party where they met looks like it took place in the mid-to-late 90s, judging by his sister’s combat trousers.

But looking at the pair of them, they’d have been pushing 30 by that point.

And they have a teenage son.

I think the two leads are miscast.

I love Tom Hollander, but that was so dull. I would love to see a TV drama that isn't about middle-class couples in nice houses, or horribly deprived people. I don't think the BBC 'does' ordinary. Or rather, it's version of ordinary is the couple in Us.

I have read the book a couple of times so have been really looking forward to this. I wasn't disappointed. I think it has stayed fairly close to the novel so far (well David Nicholls did the screen play himself) and I think Tom Hollander is excellent casting for this.

but the book is written from his point of view. Partly what makes it so painful is that he knows he is flawed and often gets it wrong but still finds himself saying and doing things that it would be better he didn't say or do, almost like he can't help himself. And he tries so hard!

In the book I did feel more sympathy for Douglas than for his wife I suppose.

That dinner party where they met looks like it took place in the mid-to-late 90s, judging by his sister’s combat trousers. the flashback said 24 years ago but if they were in their twenties in the flashback it means they should be in their 40s now but both actors look like mid 50s so they should have done the flashback as 34 years ago
