I hate Breaking Bad

I hate Breaking Bad! I've suffered through three (three!) series and I can't take it any more. The misery and cruelty is relentless. Yes, Walt's now a villian , and as I understand he'll get even worse, but I just don't want to watch it.

I know the issue is clearly with me as so many people say it's the greatest series of all time. But please tell me I'm not alone?!

I didn't even last one season, everyone said I'd love it!

I do like mind hunters and narcos though, if you've not seen those?

DrDavidBanner · 25/08/2020 20:18

I couldn't stand it either. I hated all of the characters and didn't really care what happened to them

stumbledin · 25/08/2020 20:25

I watched 2 episodes of the first series and just thought cant be bothered.

Its one of those sort of gritty violent male centred things. Probably made by financial secure white middle class men who have a sort of long distance romance with violence and crime - so long as it happens to other people.

A bit like the Sopranos which normalised violence and men sitting round in strip joints.

Toilenstripes · 25/08/2020 20:28

Same here. It was too gritty. And the ugliness of the landscape was depressing.

neverevereveragain · 25/08/2020 20:32

I've seen them all but hated Walter throughout. Worse when he gets it on with his wife - I just found him repugnant in every way.

Love Hank, love Mike Smile

Readytogogogo · 25/08/2020 20:39

Ah yes I do like Hank. And Saul. But I find it such an issue that I dobt want to root for any of the main characters.

So glad to see it's not just me! It absolutely is too gritty, and I hate the violence.

Thanks for the suggestions @DonLewis

You know you don’t have to watch it?! 😂

LunaNorth · 25/08/2020 20:43

It’s gross.

Readytogogogo · 25/08/2020 20:43

@CaptainHammer I've stopped now!

I enjoyed the first couple of series, they were easy to watch and quite funny at times. Completely lost interest by the end of the third, though DH loved it.

LouisBalfour · 25/08/2020 20:47

I loved it so much - I have never seen anything else that comes close. I was genuinely bereft when I came to the end.

I hated Walt's awful wife and her dreadful sister.

applepineapple · 25/08/2020 20:52

Loved BB, watched it about 4/5 times, also love Better Call Saul, didn't like the movie follow up though, El Camino. Thought it was a bit pointless.

Readytogogogo · 25/08/2020 20:53

@LouisBalfour One of my colleagues said the same. I know a lot of people think it's fantastic. I suppose I'm just sorry that I can't understand why...

It seems to be a totally marmite series - I absolutely LOVED it, haven't found anything I've enjoyed as much since

I think the entire episode about a fly was the point where I realised I was never going to get it.

I hated it too. I really tried to see what all the fuss was about but ultimately it left me cold and I gave up.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 25/08/2020 21:20

I was a bit underwhelmed by it. I had a thread on here very recently as I only started watching it in lockdown and to be honest probably only finished it as I haven't got much of a social life atm!

A few episodes had me genuinely gripped (and iirc they all involved Hank in some way) but I hated Walt from the start. A lot of the murders and torture were really gruesome too.

Interesting enough story line although a huge number of little bits of the plot stretched credibility too far. I liked the landscapes and scenery and the production design, the sets, the clothes, the look of it all.

Some bits of the script were ludicrous - characters would suddenly launch into an incredibly clever and coherent speech just off the cuff!

I'd give it maybe a grudging 7 out of 10 but I've seen a lot better.

leolion1 · 25/08/2020 21:20

Best show I've ever watched. Oh and Aaron Paul is yum.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 25/08/2020 21:21

Utterly, utterly tedious. I had to give up part way through series three. I tried so hard to like it and I think DP still enjoys it but I had to say no more. I am not getting those hours back!

For me, I think the reason it is boring is I don’t care about Walter. His character Is too extreme and he is supposed to be the hero but the writer is so keen for us to see he is multi-dimensional that Walter just becomes an unbelievable character. I may obviously, be thinking too much about this.

JoJothesquirrel · 25/08/2020 21:22

I hated it too, and was confused how it isn’t a story about a man thinking manufacturing meth and the misery that follows it is morally superior to taking a job and or money from lifelong friends.

Pollypocket89 · 25/08/2020 21:22

I hated his wife too

stockpilingallthecheese · 25/08/2020 21:26

I found it ok but much prefer better call Saul

Readytogogogo · 25/08/2020 21:29

Very little love for Skylar on here. I was impressed that she managed to do a full day's work with her baby beside her (when she wasn't sleeping with Ted). Possibly those scripts were not run past any actual women.

@Readytogogogo I think if I’d got to series 3 I’d finish it! Haha. I agree with others that mentioned Better Call Saul. It’s amazing, if you like Saul’s character I’d read what happened to him in the last 2 series of Breaking Bad and then move on to that. There isn’t so much violence and it’s brilliantly acted.
