I hate Breaking Bad

I hate Breaking Bad! I've suffered through three (three!) series and I can't take it any more. The misery and cruelty is relentless. Yes, Walt's now a villian , and as I understand he'll get even worse, but I just don't want to watch it.

I know the issue is clearly with me as so many people say it's the greatest series of all time. But please tell me I'm not alone?!

I hated it, the whole thing seemed pointless and i can't believe i watched all of it. Not one character was likeable, such a waste of time. So many people liked it that i just thought it must get better...it didn't Confused

MikeFromSpaced · 25/08/2020 22:10

It was shit. Watch The Wire instead.

Ilovetea33 · 26/08/2020 00:30

I gave up after episode 2. When they were disposing of the body, I found it all so utterly gross and thought there were so many things I'd recorded I'd enjoy watching much more.

drigon · 26/08/2020 01:34

I loved it but would find it far too harrowing to watch again. Loved Jesse, Hank and Gus.

drigon · 26/08/2020 01:39

Yes, I know Gus is a evil bastard, but so well acted. Saul too is an excellent character.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 26/08/2020 11:32

years ago I subscribed to Netflix just to watch BB. Over the years I’ve tried three times to get into it because people rave about it so much and have given up after 3/4 episodes every time. It’s just dull.

hoistbymyownzombiepetard · 26/08/2020 12:58

The "fly" episode was done because they were running out of budget!

This is from Wiki: "Fly" was produced as a result of the series' considerable budgetary restrictions and being unable to afford the $25,000–$35,000 needed to move the production trucks to a new location. Series creator Vince Gilligan remarked: "We were hopelessly over budget ... And we needed to come up with what is called a bottle episode, set in one location.

IntermittentParps · 26/08/2020 17:16

I don't think it's the best thing ever, but I did like it. Bryan Cranston is so good. I liked how Jesse was presented as generic white trash at first but you got to know and love him (well, I did!). Also the relationship between him and his girlfriend was very sweet and very moving.

I liked Skyler and never understand the hatred for her.
Loved Saul, although I've never quite got into Better Call Saul; think he works best as a side character.

minipie · 26/08/2020 17:20

I hated it too. I thought it was a great plot, great characters, really well acted but just so frigging miserable. And all of it for no reason - he could have just accepted his friend’s money?? (Can’t remember whether there was later some explanation for why this was impossible).

DH however loved it, he has form for liking things where every character is shitty and miserable, so I suffered through it whilst browsing t’internet instead.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 26/08/2020 17:34

I got about half way through S2 and gave up. Started off well and a bit funny. Then went downhill.

Readytogogogo · 26/08/2020 18:09

@58hoistbymyownzombiepetard That explains a lot about the fly episode, thank you. Doesn't make it any better though!

I lasted 2 episodes and refused to watch anymore. I could see how depressing it was going to be.

Dino90 · 26/08/2020 18:17

I’m one of those people who think that it’s probably the best tv series I’ve ever seen! Each to their own though

BGirlBouillabaisse · 26/08/2020 18:20

I hated it, too, OP, and had to stop watching. I despised most of the characters and couldn't stomach the violence.

Notredamn · 26/08/2020 18:21

I loved it BUT I can't for the life of me get what people like about Game of Thrones...

Plussizejumpsuit · 26/08/2020 18:22

Yeah it's shit

BGirlBouillabaisse · 26/08/2020 18:23

Mad Men is a million times more cerebral/enjoyable.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/08/2020 18:28

I keep meaning to look up what classical character Walt is based on. A man so driven by pride and greed (with a bit of fatalism thrown in at first) that he destroys everything around him. There must be a Greek or Roman tragedy at the heart of this but I'm not sure which one.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/08/2020 18:29

We are watching Better Call Saul now (just into S2) and enjoying it.

BarefootHippieChick · 26/08/2020 18:41

Dh and I love it so much we have watched it 3 times, and will probably manage a fourth. Dd is on her second viewing. I love how the relationship between Walt and Jesse develops as the seasons go on. Love Hank and Saul too. It's gritty but also has great humour. (Have also watched Better Call Saul but didn't enjoy it as much.)

I have friends who only got through 2 episodes though, so I guess it shows how different we all are.

RedRec · 26/08/2020 18:48

For me it is the best thing I have ever seen on tv. And the New Mexico / Albuquerque desert landscape is utterly gorgeous. And fitting.

KnightmareDog · 26/08/2020 18:48

Loved it, watched it 6 times now.
Hank was my favorite character.

ExclamationPerfume · 26/08/2020 19:28

I hated it. Everyone says it's the best thing ever but I don't see the appeal.

DianaT1969 · 26/08/2020 19:30

You might like the spin off Better Call Saul. More cerebral and wonderful characters. It's a stand alone series. You don't need to have watched Breaking Bad.

DianaT1969 · 26/08/2020 19:32

The Fly episode was very bad. I think it was directed by Bryan Cranston and it was self-indulgent.
